Most likely the same reason why they do for FF7; it was the first 3D Zelda game. Granted, I'm an FF7 fanboy, but not because it was the first 3D FF game, I really enjoyed the story and the characters. And the Materia system was the best skill system in any FF (well, second to tha Job Class's anyway).

Because Majora's Mask pisses me off. I like the game, don't get me wrong, it's wonderful. But it's so infernally complicated. I like Ocarina because it's fairly straightforward. Keep in mind I hate the water temple on Ocarina because of it's complications.
If I can get through it without a guide, I'm in heaven. As soon as I need a guide though I start grumbling and getting irritated xD

Complicated? That fucking water temple in Ocarina of Time ALONE was more complicated then the entire game in Majora's Mask.
Speaking of which, I just officially beat the game. I had to actually borrow someone else's game who already finished it just because I wanted to see the ending. What a lousy gamer I was..

these are all fair points, and i'm not trying to argue with you. I just found that the extra complications all compressed into a much smaller world made the whole place so colourfull; side quests were jammed into everywhere. Then the most horrible complication of the time repetition allowed them to do some incredibly interesting things. If you don't do those side quests you can see the people wandering around town doing those quests themselves. I just love that stuff.

I love the zelda series but i hated Majora's mask because of the stupid 3 day timelimit. so i had to rush through temples/dungeons to stop that damn moon in ruining my exploration time.

the only game i've played much at all from that series is "a link to the past," which was pretty awesome IMO. loved it.

You don't need the INVERSE Song of Time, but you do need to go back to the beginning of the three-day countdown a few times in order to beat the game (though there are speed-run walkthroughs that minimize the amount of times you have to go back if you follow them), because to my knowledge, you NEED all the masks in the game to get to the final boss. I could be wrong, but I could swear that I tried getting to the end without all the masks once, and it told me to fuck off because I didn't have enough masks.

Oh wow, I just realized I asked the wrong question.. I meant if it was possible to simply play through the game without the song.
You don't need all the masks to beat the game. You can still fight the end boss without getting all the masks. However, giving away all your masks will reward you with the Fierce Deity Mask.

The way people would do the exact same thing every single day, unless you as a time-traveler interfered, which would radically alter the person(s)' behavior, was absolutely fascinating. It also made some nifty thought-provoking statements about the sciences behind time, but that's really beside the point. I loved how everything was linked to the overarching time function, and yet there were really no restrictions on what you could do. Even without the inverse song of time, you had PLENTY of time to do every single thing in the game by themselves, so I didn't feel constricted at all.
Also, the only masks you need to beat the game are the three transformation masks (deku, zora, goron). All the other masks are optional, but if you collect them all, you get the Fierce Deity mask, which basically turns you into super-god link (with the ADULT voice, fuck yeah!) It's so powerful you can only put it on in boss rooms.... well, without exploiting the game, anyway.

I actually only finally played MM a short time ago. I liked both it and OOT, however A Link to the Past is still my favorite as well. Just like with FF, I liked most of them, but FF1 and 2 are still my favorites in the whole series. Tactics is close though.

Ergh, FF2. I fucking hated the level system in that. Or rather, the lack of.
But FFT, I fucking love that game to death. THE best FF game ever. I played the PSX one to death and the PSP version always goes with me wherever I go when I have my PSP with me. I train my units up right at the beginning, on Mandalia Plains I believe, I make sure to get max them out in most, if not all job classes.

I'm actually a big fan of FF1, 4, 6 and 7. Then I kinda got busy and never really got back into the series, until 12. 12 is pretty fun but... got busy and never finished it.
