Bray-Tell Conglomerate
Interstellar Mercantile Conglomerate formed approximately 250 years ago, Bray-Tell has become the de facto government for the Epsilon Leonis Sector. Initially comprised of the merging of Brayten Technologies and Teller Munitions, it has expanded to include other companies, such as Achernar Fleetworks (source of all Conglomerate ships), Merope Broadcasting (source of all Conglomerate media), Polaris Security (the Conglomerate's source for standardized security forces {Disparagingly referred to as "rent-a-cops".}), and Leonis Sanitation.
Aside from Polaris Security, which handles all low-level disturbances ("Beat Cop" level) in Conglomerate controlled space, there also exists the much lauded "Planetary Defense Corps", which form the military for the sector. Any situation that expands to a medium-level or high incident (SWAT or worse.) is transferred to the care of these forces, and each incident is usually spun by Merope's staff such that the most notable member of the PDC unit sent in to "assess" the situation "valiantly and heroically resolved the incident." These efforts have led to both high competition among PDC troops, as well as a culture of hero-worship within the "constituent markets" of the Conglomerate.
Both pressure from Merope Broadcasting and just general apathy have led to a resulting lack of recognition or interest in Earth, humanity's homeworld, and its cultures and media.
Notable Conglomerate Locations
Fortuna Station - Central Headquarters for the Bray-Tell Conglomerate, most companies that are a part of the group have their central offices here. It is located in orbit of the oceanic planet Gromov III.
Rawlanger Station - Main offices for Leonis Sanitation, one of the few companies that are a part of the Conglomerate that do not have offices on Fortuna Station. Also serves as housing for the janitors that make up the bulk of Leonis' workforce. Located in deep space, between the Gromov and Erebus systems.
Erebus System - Former site of a Brayten Technologies Advanced Robotics Research Facility, site of the somewhat infamous SADIA Project. The ARR Facility had been located on Erebus V. The Facility was dismantled after a "singularity incident", which occurred only months after the shutdown of the SADIA Project. Currently, Erebus V has been re-purposed to be the "Saints' Moon," a memorial for current and former unit heroes, for the 8th PDC, an Heavy Assault Unit known as the "Thunderers".
Rylon System - Former site of now-defunct Isantos Medical's primary research center. Isantos Medical folded after most of their research department were revealed to be dangerously insane, as well as aiding a local pirate nest. After a sizable battle, the research center was pacified by the 12th PDC, an Orbital Assault Unit known as the "Valkyries". Rylon VI now serves as the unit's "Saints' Moon".
Vargan System - Former site of a well-reputed Achernar Fleetworks shipyard, which was in orbit around Vargan III. The shipyards were decommissioned after a major raw materials supply point, the mines on Vargan IV, suffered an incident involving local fauna. Due to the extreme methods required to resolve the incident, Vargan III was needed for the new "Saints' Moon" for the 7th PDC, a Close-Quarters Combat Unit known as the "Torchbearers".
Notable Companies
Leonis Sanitation - The Conglomerate's site clean-up company, based on Rawlanger Station, which deals with everything from the various hero-producing incidents, to major disasters, to the aftermath of facility-wide plumbing malfunctions. It holds the somewhat dubious distinction of being the only Conglomerate member barred from having offices on Fortuna Station. Although advertised as being the most professional large-scale operation janitor in the galaxy, the fact of the matter is that there's a high turnover rate among their employees, whether due to contraband arrests, literal cutthroat internal competitions, or just plain incompetence. Known problems among Leonis Sanitation workers include kleptomania, drug use, potential cannibalism, and the occasional bout of stalker-ish perversions. The one beacon of quiet competence in the whole mess, and perhaps the main reason the company hasn't folded yet, is their Senior Sanitation Expert, and de facto supervisor of the so-called "maniac farm" (also known as "those idiots we employ"), Peter Oswald.
*Peter Oswald* - Leonis Sanitation's Senior Sanitation Expert, essentially the head of the oft-maligned Janitors. Human male, early 50's, still in good physical condition. Highly competent, usually works alone on assigned sites. Leonis Administrators use Oswald as a sort of supervisor, allowing him to assign work crews to sites as he chooses. Oddly enough, he often reserves some of the worst jobs for himself. The only notable mental quirk of Oswald is a form of social incompetence, as every award ceremony he has been invited for to date has resulted in him forfeiting whatever prestigious award he was due to receive through some manner of non-hazardous, yet embarrassing, bungling. There are some among the other Janitors who think this quirk, so at odds with his usual competence, may be an act, and that the "Lone Cleaner" is deliberately forfeiting the awards to avoid the lasting publicity.
Merope Broadcasting - currently holds all media transmission rights within Conglomerate space. In addition to their various channels, they also maintain a small number of product lines and communications-related services, such as JINGO, a short-content message service which is occasionally derided for the inane "updates" some users flood the service with. Most notable is Merope's expert "spin doctors" and their push for Conglomerate media to focus on the heroism of PDC members, rather than the details of what actually happens during incident resolutions...
