Just a reminder to the occasional lurker that might be browsing around here. If you don't do something, ANYTHING, be it sign a petition, write a letter to your Congressman, you realize this forum can just as easily be shut down? SOPA and PIPA will allow the US government to link us to acts of piracy and eliminate this place.

Don't be stupid. This is one of the easiest bandwagons you can hop into. Do SOMETHING.

Megaupload has been shut down and these laws haven't even been passed. Don't think you can ignore this and just download your porn carefree. This will affect this place. This will affect EVERY pornographic distributor. You will not see Exhentai, Gelbooru, Hongfire, etc. They will ALL fall under SOPA law and shut down.

If you aren't going to do it to fight for your freedom of speech, if you aren't going to do it to allow the innovation and creativity of the Internet run free, if you aren't even going to do it for your funny cat videos, then do it for your porn at least.

We all are, dude. I've sent off 5 emails from different sites, and a couple hand-typed ones. Hell, I even WROTE a letter to one of 'em.

What needs to happen is boycotting and a march on the capitol.

And what REALLY, REALLY, REALLY needs to happen is for these congressmen to be educated on how the internet works. That's the major problem here - most don't understand it, half of them probably don't even use it, and they rely on others to tell them what's what. It's like being unable to read, but being in command of an army. Sure, you have a mind for strategy, but if you can't even read, how will you know that those orders you've been sent don't say 'kill the commander, authorization xxxxxxx'?
Well, okay, maybe that's a bit of an extreme example, but hopefully ya'll get the point.

If anyone knows Athene "best gamer in the world" guy, he hosted an anti-sopa/pipa stream today which gathered over 10000 viewers of whom then coordinated a mass twitter messaging compaign to every member of congress talking about freedom.

In the course of about 5 hours 30 people opposing of the bill climbed up above 90.

They start with internet and then when they get this all to pass, they'll work their way to video games, then movies and tv and then personal speech. The US government is getting more and more ego-maniacal.

I've signed quite a few petitions about this now. Seriously, this whole SOPA/PIPA thing is so ridiculous. It's absolutely crazy that these things actually have a chance to pass.

Aren't there more important things for the government to be focusing on anyways right now?

Did I miss something? I read that SOPA got rejected today. Or am I mistaken?

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: SOPA, PIPA, MEGAUPLOAD, AND THE FUTURE OF THE FORUMS

As I recall the actual voting on it doesn't take place until the 24th, but this isn't about SOPA/PIPA. Not really. SOPA/PIPA are just symptoms of a greater issue festering within the United States Government and the quest for greater control. You can believe whatever you want to read, but ultimately it is up to -you- to voice your own opinion on the matters at hand. Doing nothing resigns you to whatever fate befalls your peers, but doing something, even just one thing that takes no more than 3 minutes of your time, can help set you and your peers on the path to whatever destiny you hope for.

As a member of NSSAR (Sons of the American Revolution) I know my grandfather 8 generations before me (most are around 14 now) must be turning in his grave. Even if the bill is rejected, even after SOPA/PIPA fade, keep your opinions voiced. Keep in contact with your Representatives if you are a US resident. You can't just sit back and wait for these old people to die off in hopes that their progeny aren't as inept and ignorant. And/or greedy. Their intentions might even be in the right place, but we all know what happens when -their- liberties aren't restricted; give a man an inch and he'll take a mile. Or 2680 miles, in this case.

For extra laughs and understanding you should read the press release by thepiratebay in regards to SOPA and PIPA. I won't put the link here, though. It covers the main body of people that are pushing for SOPA, Hollywood, and their own history which involved getting their start by moving to the West Coast to pirate ideas for their profit. So, in reality, this is nothing but Karma coming back to bite them on their collective ass. Hoo-Rah!

SOPA's just been shot down...it's not dead. PIPA is still in the books. Vote coming Jan 24th in senate. Even if they both fail now, they will still be pushed every time the house and senate reconvene til they are passed. Media is giving these guys a lot of money to do so.

Gotcha, thank you very much for the clarification. And of course, no one on the internet should be allowed to sit idle. We've got to fight this with all we've got.

Radjulz and havokor made the xxxxing point.
This pestilence will never gives up no matter of temporary shut down
since it's the matter of 'their' profit and power domination.

I'm not sure my anonymous e-mail out of the states would be counted as a voice.

But people of the states, do not spread legs and let this PA-PA's dick come in.
Once they raped you and fulfilled their enjoyment,
whole internet is going to be suffered.

(or already being suffered according to the announcement. Darn it!)

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: SOPA, PIPA, MEGAUPLOAD, AND THE FUTURE OF THE FORUMS

The Hollywood industry...

The studios, producers, and directors primarily, not really the actors, are claiming they won't give Obama another nickel if he vetos these bills.

Now here's the problem, this is the election season and Obama can't afford to lose voters. However, he's in between a rock and a hard place because if he vetos these bills, he can lose a lot of support in Hollywood, but if he doesn't veto these bills he may lose a lot of support from the average voters. So what I think is important is for voters to let him know they will stand by him if he does veto these bills, if it comes to that.

THe big corporations have sodomized our government and for years now have infringed upon the rights of the people. If it isn't psycho bills like SOPA, its getting the government to lift regulations that protect the common man, and it really needs to stop.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: SOPA, PIPA, MEGAUPLOAD, AND THE FUTURE OF THE FORUMS

The good news is, i do believe Obama is strongly against the bills, so even in the off chance they pass (the support for them has quickly been fading) its likely we will see him veto it. Still even with its falling, please harass your senators if they still support the bill, if we can get 100% of the voters against it, it likely we will not have to deal with something like this for a very long time.

EDIT: you know, im sure someone out there has come out with a conspiracy theory that the bill was started by Obama, so we can show his support against it, to help back his victory, that would funny as hell.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: SOPA, PIPA, MEGAUPLOAD, AND THE FUTURE OF THE FORUMS

I do not know how many of you are american, but in the USA a bill can be vetoed by the president and then the veto can be overridden by I believe a 2/3rd majority vote by the house and senate. This is the only thing that is allowing SOPA to have some shred of possibility still.

Yes the president did veto SOPA, but it could still pass. Therefore you all need to still keep putting pressure on those who could be responsible for overriding the veto.
