    Hentai Section Reformatting

I'd like to propose that we start the discussion over, but start it over with the things we've already come to agreement on. I'll try to be as objective as possible and show what we've covered so far.

    The Hentai Section
To begin with, this is what we're currently looking at as far as the Hentai section in general might end up looking like:
    Spoiler

However, we are also considering whether or not to split the Hentai Game section right off from the rest of the Hentai section. In the case of this, the forum would end up looking something like this:

    Spoiler

Right now, these are the only updates to the Hentai section in general, and there aren't really any disagreements about it. The changes in this regard would be the following:
    • The Under Construction section is moved into the Hentai Games section
    • The Vanilla Hentai Movies is moved into the Hentai Movies section
    • The Reviews section is moved into the Unsorted section
    • The Hentai Games section is moved out of the Hentai section and made its own separate section.

    The Hentai Games section
In regards to the Hentai Games section, these are currently the points that we have a very large majority agreement on and will likely be implementing.

    Spoiler

In text, the following changes are going to be:
    • Creating a Translations sub-section
    • Creating an Online sub-section, which will contain the Nutaku, DMM, MMO and any other largely online based games
    • The Under Construction section will now be found here

The little annotations you see below some of the sub-sections in the diagram indicate that they are going to be using these as prefixes to better label what each thread will be about. Those tags on the top right of diagram are tags that may be implemented as genre tags for the remaining games that are not being moved to those sub-sections.

How the Hentai Games Section will be categorized
There are currently three potential systems on how to separate the remaining games, which is where most of the discussion was.
The first is making genre-based sections, which will create sub-sections in the Hentai Games section.
The second is separating all the games by whether they are completed or not. In other words, if the game is still in development, it is filtered to an Incomplete section. Else, it would be put in a Complete section.
The final system is separating the games based on whether it is an Eastern developer or Western developer.

Currently, most people seem to be against the East/West sectioning, and most of the debate is between genre-based and Complete/Incomplete. The other thing to keep in mind is that besides sections, these threads will also have prefixes like the other sections. Thus if we were to go with genre-based sectioning, there would still be the ability to label them as complete or incomplete by using the prefixes. Similarly, the Complete/Incomplete sections would be using the prefixes to have genre labels on them.

    The current discussion
Before the concern about the Online section came about, we were talking about establishing clearer definitions of everything regarding the systems. The Complete/Incomplete system needs to further define what it means to be complete or incomplete, as well as how it will approach grey area topics such as games that are being iteratively updated, games that utilize DLC, or games whose developers' definition of complete differs from the forum's. The Genre-based system is charged with having a single, unified, and agreed-upon model of what genres are going to be used for the final system. Currently, it is understood that [Action], [RPG], [ACT-RPG], [VN], [Strategy], and [Miscellaneous] should be in there, but whether there needs to be more or less is up for debate.

Now please feel free to discuss any part of this overhaul. We're already aware of some of the flaws, as this is what our debates have been trying to uncover, but we'd like more opinions so that we can have a final system that will please as many people as possible.

I like the Genre option more because it will contain the specific games rather than spliting them up once they are finished, which makes me think it will make one sub-section way more alive than the other.

The only problem I see with the Genre option is that someone who likes all kinds of gernes would have to open WAY more tabs than they have to do now.

I voted for genre too because I don't like VN and most RPGMaker games. I prefer games that are somehow original. Also, there are games which are incomplete but still way more rich than complete games so I dislike this distinction.

I'm going to wait to vote because, well we jumped from discussion to this kind of quickly. Not without reason, I get that the other thread devolved into new people coming in, not reading recent posts and drudging up things that had already been dealt with.

What did everyone think of the idea of going with the complete/incomplete but giving RPGs their own sub with incomplete/complete tags?

I really thought it would address the concern of complete/incomplete moving too fast or having too many titles given that rpgs are the largest genre we have around here, providing us the most bang for our buck per split.

Another reason why I don't like subs by genre, is most often I don't really care what genre a game has (with a couple notable objections, leading to me liking tags being on stuff so I can just not click on those) but what fetishes it contains, leading to me crawling through almost every sub anyway. Subs by genre feels like... we're just splitting things up this way because it's not feasible to split them up by fetish.

Also: anyone know what's up with the ads? I don't have any at the bottom of the page anymore.

Do you have Adblock+ enabled or anything Slicer? If so then that's probably why they aren't showing up. But I've noticed sometimes that they don't show up properly when I use my mother's little Netbook which I take to the bathroom with me to write and stuff sometimes, which doesn't have Adblock+ on it.
Check out My Twitch Channel! I stream a variety of games on it on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with the occasional stream on Wednesdays, but I try and keep it Wednesdays for a mid week rest day so on those days it's an, I'll stream if I feel like it kind of deal. I try to be as entertaining as possible, and I get salty at games often enough to be funny, at least I think so anyway.

Also check out my erotica novelette, Angel's Sin. There is an image link of my book cover to the Amazon Kindle Store page for it, so check it out.
              Spoiler

It's also on Excitica, which is an erotic book site.

Also check out my brother's sci-fi/drama novel. It's on the Amazon Kindle Store the same as mine, but obviously in a different genre of course. And also check out my Brother's Patreon page to check out all of his books, as he has quite a few on there now that he's written.

Nope, just firefox in private mode. They usually show up though, and I don't think it been updated, maybe the server just gave up on trying to push them through my slow-ass connection?

But - you look at every thread because you're a mod. The rest of us can use the "ignore thread" button for threads we don't want to see (including stickies)

I doubt you can find genres that are specific enough to be useful without having some sections be ghost-towns like the H-movies and H-doujin sections already are.

                  I voted "completed/still being developed".

That sounds racist. I hope you actually mean "games in japanese/games in english".

                    Re: Hentai Section Reformatting

Is it out of the question to integrate some sort of advanced search database page or component. Not unlike the search on vndb.org ??

If you could make ulmf more like that, I think users would be able to find content faster and mods can keep things properly organized. Notice on vndb how each novel entry has a tab that links to a discussion thread so it maintains a 1:1 correlation.

I realize this may sound like blasphemy but as great as forums are, I feel like for a site dealing with content such as this they really should be an 'accessory' to a database website.
Ask yourself what are the top problems associated with content control? IMO:

                    1. Duplicate Threads.
                    2. Mislabeled/Mistagged/Unlabeled Threads.
                    3. Dead Links
                    4. Noob posts: "WHERES DA LINK?!?"
                    5. User Reviews/Ratings are scattered throughout the thread.
                    6. Flaming

If you make the H Game/Comics/Movies database take front and center stage then you start to more easily eliminate those things listed above.

The unfortunate problem with this is, the owner of ULMF.org isn't generating money off the site, probably just under or over server costs. We're using a free version of vBulletin at the moment. Had we a development team, and dedicated linux admins; maybe. But we're a team of volunteers that use our off time arguing about how to best categorize cartoon porn games.

I would amend: "...Even if its cartoon boobs and vaginas."

Well for what its worth, it looks like the code for vndb is available here.

Not sure if I'm going to get buttblasted because I'm voting for Incomplete/Complete, but the OP doesn't mention that Genres will use [Complete][Incomplete] tags while Completion uses [ACT][RPGM][VN]/etc tags.

sgtbilco reiterates the primary concern that I and others supporting I/C have when looking at the Genre split.

It would be interesting if VBulletin had a way to filter by tag while still having everything revealed by default, which could allow the best of both systems :/

Voted genre, and glad to see it is well ahead. I would like to reiterate, that if you do go the complete/incomplete route, I would MUCH rather see different terminology. Such as, "Released" and "Upcoming." Upcoming carries a far more positive connotation and implies these are titles that are going to be released.

                              Thank you.
