Theres no need to be an ass, i'm merely voicing a concern, hopefully its nothing just as you suggest, i certainly want the proliferation of these kinds of games, i simply think its impossible in the current political climate. I'm just talking here, if you disagree and think i'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, thats completely understandable, i hope you're right.
Look, i want the people pushing this to have as much freedom as anyone, i personally purchased a few of these games on Steam including Melty's quest, my point is that putting the content on Steam undoubtedly brings attention to it, this is the goal after all. I simply believe (and most people would agree) that the form will be misunderstood and brutally attacked the second it gets an ounce of mainstream attention.
You don't believe me? We're still talking about video game violence in 2018. Gamergate was an infiltration of the medium by social justice types who immediately decryed the level of fan service in japanese games. You think 'Snk Heroines' or 'Soul caliber 6' depict women in an unflattering light? Hold my beer.
Uh huh. I don't see any reason why they should stop translating games.
Its not the translation of the games that worries me, its the surfacing of the genre on a platform like Steam which could be potentially problematic. I don't expect this game to blow up extraordinarily but that doesn't mean it work. Have you seen how many people are losing their shit because Kingdom Come: Deliverance doesn't have any minorities in it?
Ever since videogames were decalred to be "art", they're subject of the same criticism that every other media is. And there's nothing wrong with this. The First Amendment allows Americans to criticize whatever they want, and I don't see why people should be banned from talking about h-games. And the first amendment is a two-way street, just as reviewers are allowed to criticize whatever they want, developers are allowed to create whatever they want.
Right, it is art and it is protected, but not to the most extreme degree. Lets just say that the legality of a certain subset of commonly found art within these games is on shakey ground, at least in the US.
You also seem to believe that your "Feminist and SJW" boogyeman have power to censor your games? How? Giving a videogame a negative review isn't censorship. And I hope we never reach the day when criticizing videogames becomes illegal because some random SJW hurt your feelings.
Also, how are they suposed to "take away" your videogames? Are they in the government? No, the current US government is one of the most right-wing and regressive in history. They don't believe in rape culture anymore than you.
The 'Stop enabling sex traffickers act of 2017' has passed the senate recently with Bipartisan support and now sits on Trump's desk waiting to be signed into law, the law essentially makes web sites responsible for the content hosted on their website whether they are aware of it or not, the specific law targets 'Sex Trafficking' but what it really means is all forms of prostitution, the law would weaken section 230 protections and allow web sites to be shut down or their owners prosecuted or fined for merely having this content on their website unknowingly. Neither side has your interests at heart, if they can go after the games industry, they can go after your hobby. Imagine how they'll label us. 'Internet perverts fantasize about the rape and molestation of fictionalized women'. Do you think that headline isn't good for a click or two?
Companies such as Patreon have recently updated their terms of service, specifically targeting Hentai games with some of their new rules, Am i saying that they plan on putting us all in prison for our hobby? No. but there are many ways of disrupting content than that. Are you telling me that weed hating Jeff Sessions is above enforcing the existing obscenity laws that are already on the books? I'm not about to make that bet.
Sure is fearmongering paranoia in here. Heaven help someone says a word of criticism. There was whining about RapeLay more than a DECADE ago, and nothing happened, you can still play all your loli rape games.
Times are different, i don't know if you've noticed but we're in the middle of a culture war, companies are being forced to make decisions (or making decisions willingly) in order to show solidarity with a particular movement, youtube is censoring videos, western government are banning people from their countries and there seems to be a new puritanical push in the entertainment industry.
