Throwing insults around isn't going to get you anywhere, and if she's going to be releasing it for free anyway, is there really such a problem with early leaks? If nothing else, it'll generate more interest because people will like what they see and eagerly await the full release, due to it being just as free as the leak.

When the game was released to the public, it was on extabit to generate a little bit of income for her for her work. I think the access to the beta is the sole incentive for most of those who donate, which would be the only payment she expects to see for her work. People leaking the game take away that incentive and any exchange she would receive from players during that time. If they were actually wanting to drum up support for the game, share the pictures or direct people to the WIP gallery to entice some more future donations.

Well...while I do support the game, I'm not wholly impressed by the release model so far. I'm sure a big part of it has been the work schedule for the updates to episode one not mixing well with the schedules of the beta testers, but keep in mind if it weren't for Narian it would've been 3 months since we last saw a release, despite regular updates to the blog and regular releases available.

That being said, I'd love to support the author and would happily download each update from those extabit links if each release was uploaded to them. But the real issue is we haven't seen any of those uploads for awhile, so leaks are all we get. Bearable? Sure. I guess just odd compared to most of the WIP blogs we see around.

If nothing else, it'll generate more interest because people will like what they see and eagerly await the full release, due to it being just as free as the leak.

That's a good point. I mean, this thread WAS started solely because there were earlier leaked versions of the game. Our very discussion tends to imply it was good for interest, at least.

That's at least a kindness that can be done for her, to anyone posting them in the future. There will always be piracy going around, the best that can be done is to let the maker profit off of it instead of waiting for someone else to do it somewhere else, like YoungMike for a relevant example to these boards.

There are 3 new files uploaded on her VIP Upload account, so you may expect a new update soon. And in addition the new Registration Key System Auril made makes leaking the game useless. You need a VIP Account to register your copy so you won't be able to play it, if you don't know to bypass the key setup.

Extabit has only been used for the public releases. The beta links have only been through 4shared.

Auril still didn't add the foursome with the 2 nightelves and Joy in the VIP Club? Did she say something about that?

In Version 1.0 there were the comic pages about a scene like this, will there ever be animations implemented for it? Now there are even the pictures gone.

I thought the whole point of her releasing it for free was to avoid a cease and desist from blizzard for using copy-written art assets, so now shes just flat out charging for game keys for her works to stop people leaking?

Nope, this is not the case. Yes she made a Registration Key system to stop people leaking unfinished content, but it does not change her will to keep this game free.

The whole "donate some money" thing was made to keep the project alive. she has to pay her 4shared account I think and her homepage or whatever she has to pay for keeping this running. So she asked already a long time ago for donations.

Then she got a mail from angry parents because some kid donated her and the parents didn't like their kid paying for some porn. So she raised the donation system to a 20 / 25 € system so that kids weren't that attracted to the price.

The game is still free but she has to pay the traffic on her homepage and all, as you all see there are no ads on her page. The versions from the VIP Forums that are leaked or hosted on her 4shared account are BETAs. That's the "thank you" for donators from her. People that donate can already test the Beta and help her polishing it up, the rest of the people will just see the full release. So keeping the unfinished product in VIP hands with the new Registration Key is more an act of protecting the donators, showing them that she tries to honor their donations, than a step to force people to pay money.

Nothing changed, Betas are just better protected for leaks, so that they are still only for donators. The full release will still be FOR FREE, when it is finished.

So for those who are angsty: go find a work and a personal life then you'll have no time to be angsty and won't care about such insignificant things as games (including those with porno content).

I'm not a law expert but what I know for sure is that releasing software only for people who have paid money is making a profit out of it for legal matters, regardless of it being unfinished or not, or if you mask it as a donation or not (donations are considered profit in the legal context of licensing, mind you).

I just hope she doesn't get a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo to deal with, specially if copyright-protected assets are being used without authorization.

I'm pretty sure using donations instead of payment is a scheme to avoid copyright laws, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't protect her anyways. On the other hand, there are laws allowing unapproved use of images and such for parodies, maybe hers qualifies as such.

The links he gave were to Auril's account, not his own uploading. Since they're deleted, that means Auril took them down because 1.6.1 was released this week to donators.

In further news, Auril keeps dropping hints in forum posts that progress is being made on Episode 2, and that we can probably expect a new build of that release later this week.

Installed 1.6.1 It has a nice little main menu and rainbowy loadingscreens, but that's it. It won't start the game, it tries to load and gets back to the main menu then.

Edit: Okay had to start it as Administrator, that worked.

A new version of Episode 2 went live tonight. Downloading it now.

Edit: Well I'm downloading it now, but multiple people on the VIP forum are reporting a corrupt rar, so we'll see if it works.

Edit Part Deux: Yup, rar is corrupt, so I'll have nothing new to share until I attempt the download again in the morning if Auril has updated the download links.

Yep same error for me. downloaded it 2 times. had 2 errors while unzipping and then one error while installing. the whole environment around you is black and all the characters too.

Edit: New version works fine now. I really hate the Harlem Shake music, it breaks the immersion I think and simply does not fit, everything else is fine. I am looking forward to what is coming next.

If I remember right, the payment went to a 3rd party business. The donation is in pounds, so it comes out to closer to $32 USD.

In other news, Auril has mentioned Alexstrasza as a main character is pushed back almost to Episode 5. A release of Episode 3 will be out for donators April 6th or 7th.
