This or the other idea will come into play assuming interest is garnered. A game I had planned out but shelved.

‘A lot’s changed in the last 50 years. While many parts of the world, for most people, have remained the same - and in some cases even improved, such as Africa – other areas have changed incredibly radically.
In 2015, this shift began. The United States had changed little, despite the urgings of many governing bodies around the world including their own NATO and the United Nations. Some places within its borders grew crueler than the methods they had taken to in the finally officialised war on many if not all Oil Nations in the Middle East. Against the word of most every other nation with a voice, US infantry, ground vehicles and aircraft waged a non-stop war in many countries at once.
That is considered the reason for what happened next.
By November 2015, unrest among the rest of the world hit breaking point, and finally someone acted as they should have done well before that point.
A joint task force from the EU surfaced in Washington, taking control of the Capitol and destroying the government in one fell swoop. One would think that would be the ‘happy ending’ for it all, but that was not the case.
Rebellion against the ‘tyrant usurpers’ was massive, and the nation fell into anarchy which was only cured in May 2016, when a final solution was implemented.
Years before, the US had developed a new type of weapon. Small, inert until detonated, it could level a square kilometre while remaining the size of a pen. This weapon became their downfall, when multitudes were detonated across the country.
The entire nation was obliterated, and to this day many parts of Canada and Mexico remain uninhabitable, but can be saved unlike the struck nation.
Still, no-one knows who actually detonated the weapons, the occupying forces as unaware as the occupied. What everyone knows are the effects.
As the country was destroyed, the armed forces in the ME were scattered, converging on a single location and forming a new nation out of lands taken by the US previously. This nation has never been granted full standing with anyone, and has remained jealously hidden from the view of others by its citizens. However, they also remained completely warlike, taking what they could from the nations around them and levelling what they couldn’t. With the capture of several top-grade military scientists, they began to use inhuman tools to take lands, introducing synthesised plagues and creatures into the environment. Their final weapon, a snakelike creature with human intelligence and abilities beyond human limits, once again, became a tool of their demise.
These Naga quickly evolved beyond what they were engineered to, gaining the ability to control, change and turn others into Naga or simply drones for their eggs. By 2020 all Middle Eastern nations south of Kuwait, Iraq and Syria were quarantined and locked down completely for fear of the monsters escaping into the world.
While all this had occurred in one area, other parts of the world had changed rapidly to meet it. In an emergency session of the UN to counter these new threats, much of Europe had solidified the European Union into a single governmental body based out of England. Russia and Asia did the same, becoming the Eastern Nations Coalition, while other nations either were swallowed up by these supergovernments, were Infected by the Naga and quarantined or destroyed.
These changes to our governments had never affected us that much – same dick in a different suit, if you ask me – but for those in this latest generation, the quarantined nations have become even stronger a threat.
The Naga eventually did break through many of the southern quarantine barriers, and much of North Africa has been taken control of. What was not expected from this, though, was the formation of a puppet government under Naga control. As of 2025 that area was now considered a coalition of nations serving them, and has become a major threat to the rest of the world.
This brings us to why all nations have introduced compulsory Military Service, and the Special Forces divisions seemingly have been shrunk to a much smaller size.
Almost all SF soldiers had then been diverted to a new division of military. Their weapons are cutting edge, as are their equipment and training. Their bodies have been augmented and modified to better fight, and their goal has been specialised to one particular point: To defend their nations against any and all Naga threats.
In our region, the EU, we are simply known as SERPENT. It means something, but I can never remember beyond Specialist Evacuation Reconnaissance. Basically, we’re the anti-terrorist forces of the new world. If the Naga ever appear anywhere outside their borders, wether in raids, sieges or even a new infection, we’re there to kill each and every one of them.
As for all of you, your term of service is almost up. So, I’m here to ask. Who here has the strength, the sense of duty, and the bravery, to assist our coalition in the defence of all that we hold dear against this horrible threat. The risks are great, but the payment is greater. There is a datapad in front of each and every one of you. Your fingerprint signature is all we need. We’ll own you for another ten years, and your government will assist you in everything from then till well after retirement.’
The Sergeant-Major finally walked away from the podium to polite applause. It was apparent that in every military camp across the continent, an officer just like him was speaking almost the exact same speech for the exact same reason. And now the datapads he had mentioned moved forward from the back of the chair before it. The one before you glowed dully in the darkened room, which left you with a choice. Sign your life away for longer, perhaps forever, for duty and reward? You hesitate, looking down at your hands for a few moments before making your decision…
