Re: Dragonslayer Wanted (Astarte) GM'd by thetwo

"Uh..." The bandit leader didn't exactly seem happy with the outburst. He opened his mouth to answer, then seemed to feel the dragonkin's gaze turn on him. Color drained from his face, and the crossbow dropped to the ground. There was a twang, and a bolt vibrated in the wood of the cart a few feet to Luminita's left. "That is to say... Lord Graves. Uh. You, uh, aren't... one of his. Are you? Because if you are, we didn't know..."

The name Tidus might not have rung any bells with the dragonkin, but 'Lord Graves' had been all over the town. And practically every town she'd come through on her search. He was one of the five who had attacked her home, and apparently killed her father. She had never heard of any of the five before the attack, and had only gathered rumors since. Tidus was apparently a mage. A man, with dark hair and eyes, a serious expression, and a temper that practically everyone who had met him remembered with a shiver.

Luminita turned her gaze to the apparent leader, taking a few steps down off of the road towards him, but making no obviously hostile moves yet. Tidus was not a name she recognized, but Graves was. That meant all plans of cooperation were moot, because he was actually her target. That only left the matter of what to do these men. She had been planning to let them go and move on, but now they had revealed themselves to be working for her enemy. They were still inconsequential, but she could not allow them to warn their boss. He would surely remember her, and he was one of the mages of the group she was after. Magic was something she had never really understood, her own powers being simply instinctual, but she knew that approaching a prepared mage was dangerous.

She had no qualms with simply kicking the door down and announcing her presence, she was no coward to rely on a sneak attack, but neither did she relish the idea of letting him prepare traps rather than fight her head on. If she could get her hands on him, she could kill him. She was confident of that fact. That was where she had failed last time, when she had attempted to attack them after they killed her father. She hadn't even made it halfway to the group before they had turned their weapons and spells on her. She was stronger now, though, and he would be alone—Or at least, have only common brigands to back him up. Men like these, she was confident she could handle with little difficulty. If she had chosen to attack the men hiding in the brush instead of giving them a warning, she was certain she could have killed most, if not all of them in a single gout of fire.

"Yes. This Graves is the one I came here to meet." She replied, eyes never leaving the apparent leader's. She wasn't one to lie her way through things, but she did grudgingly admit that misdirection had its place. It wasn't much, and she made no effort to hide her general hostility, but if he accepted her words at face value all the better. "And I would like you to take me to him. Now."

If he refused, sh could make an example of him. Eventually she was certain that one would accede to her demand. With how much talk there had been in the towns she had passed through, there was little chance that his men did not know of his recent accomplishments. It would not be hard to figure out why she, a half-dragon, was looking for him. Yet there was something strange the man had said—What did the man mean by 'One of his'? Finally breaking eye contact she looked over her shoulder at the cart driver, to see if he had any obvious reaction to this turn of events, before turning back to the man she had spoken to. She would have to speak with him after she was done, because this changed her destination, and she could not afford to wait. She would honour her bargain regardless, he had brought her this far, but it was a simple matter of whether he would wish to follow her or wait for her return.

The man cringed at Luminta's confirmation, but his face went white at her demand. "Uh..." he looked around at the others for support, and found none. If anything, the others looked more terrified than when she'd been attacking. "Well. I... that is, we would love to do that, we really would. But we can't."

The man hurried on, not eager to leave a pause after that sentence. He also seemed to be half-eyeing the fallen crossbow. "The likes of us! Meeting Him, in person!? I think I saw him once. In town. But that's it! We deliver the gold and reports to his man, and take any order with his seal on it! Honest!"

Meanwhile, a quick glance at the cart showed... nothing much. The man was seated in the driver's seat, apparently unphased by events so far. He shrugged slightly at Luminita's glance, and nodded down the road. From what little Luminita had picked up about their destination from his sparse conversation, the wizard had a tower of sorts, and the cartman seemed confident he knew where it was.
