Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Jamie sat still, crying for a moment, as Melissa stalked angerly through the room. She couldn't find anything of use at all, besides some pills scattered on the floor, and without labels it would be too risky to take those either way. Melissa's attitude scared the vulnerable sarge a bit, who with a quiet voice spoke up from the bench. "Hey.. Mel... can you look at my feet again... they hurt pretty bad..." She seemed to relax a bit whenever the bluenette did, so she seemed to be trying to keep her calm, in a twisted sort of way. "Maybe we can still find a wheelchair at the pharmacy, or a shopping cart or something..."

With a sigh and a shake of her head, Melissa lets the third unmarked bottle of pills so far drop to the floor. She looks over at Jamie, her jaw setting as she works to calm herself, then says, "Yeah, sure, sarge." In a somewhat rushed fashion she works the woman's pants open again to take another look at her wounds. The pills in the room might be unmarked, but there should be fresh bandages she can use when the inspection and cleaning is finished. "Yeah, don't worry sarge, we'll find something."

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

(the pills aren't in bottles btw, just on the floor)

The woman's leg was still oozing a bit of puss. Perhaps Jamie was developing a low level infection. "That... looks kinda nasty... the sinks work right... can ya wipe it down again... that was a long trip..." Once again, though, the sarge's attitude was a good sign she was still in pretty good shape. She was one tough cookie, that was for sure. "I don't think the quad we're looking for is too far, right next to this one if I remember right, so I should be good untill we get there, this stuff just kinda itches... I'm used to the dull ache by now..." The last part was said with a voice filled with sadness. It was hard to tell how much was the drugs speaking and how Jamie really felt.

Melissa grimaces as she inspects Jamie's injury. 'I need to get her to a medic,' she thinks, doing her best to clean and redress the increasingly worrying wound. "It's just a scratch, Jamie," Melissa says, trying her best to comfort the woman. "Can't be any worse than the piece of shrapnel Cooper got in his butt."

Once the redressing is done, Melissa moves back to the door, opening it slowly and quietly as she looks out into the quad to see if anything had come to investigate the explosions from before.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

As Melissa peeks out the door she spots a clearly infected man shambling around the far side of the quad. His clothes are ripped and patches of greenish flesh are visible in places. He stops as the door opens, but after a few seconds keeps moving randomly. It was a close thing, if the monster was only a little bit smarter he might have realized someone was watching him.

While technically not clear, the pair stood a decent chance of sneaking out into the quad and around the corner to the shops they were looking for, they were not that far away. On the other hand, a door to outside was close by too, on a path where the zombie couldn't see them. That might be easier on Jamie, as she wouldn't have to tense up for stealth, assuming the parking lot is clear too.

"Shit," Melissa whispers as she looks out at the shuffling man. The presence of the man was a danger, but with their destination fairly close and no idea what lay outside, it was an easy choice for Melissa to make. She turns back to Jamie, then motions with her hands to be quiet and follow her. Staying close to the wall, the soldier keeps her eyes on the man while moving cautiously through the quad to the stores where, hopefully, something of help would await Jamie.

The next few seconds were some of the most tense of the two's lives. They made it, but it was close, the zombified man stopped several times, as if he heard them, but never fully turned to look, wandering in the other direction. As they rounded the corner, Jamie made to let out a heavy sigh, but quickly stopped herself. They were still within earshot. She motioned frantically that they had to get even farther away.

Across this quad was their destination, a large sign above a store that took up nearly the whole wall proudly proclaimed this was the best food outlet in town. The windows were all smashed and the girls had a good view into the store. Utterly trashed, but penty of shopping carts just waiting to give the sarge a ride.

Once out of earshot of the man, Melissa lets out a breath of relief, then quickly turns to Jamie. "Almost there," she says with a smile, pointing to the grocery. Still keeping quiet, she moves across the quad, towards their destination, eager to check on the shopping carts for one to carry the injured woman in. Hopefully no one had maliciously broken any of the carts...

Jamie was somewhat stressed from sneaking past the zombified man, but brightened up as they reached the shopping carts. Several had been turned over and suffered minor damage, probably from the general chaos of the day, though, then from any malice. The sarge went right to work searching for a good one, though it was hard for her to bend over to check the fallen ones. All of the carts still had to be screened for one that really worked well, even in normal times there was always that one with the broken wheel that wouldn't turn at every store. Eventually Jamie found one she liked, and motioned for Melissa to come over and help her into it. The woman was fortunately small enough it wouldn't be too uncomfortable.

Even if some of them are damaged, the sight of so many carts is an obvious relief to Jamie, and a comfort to Melissa. 'We ought to be able to move much faster with one of these,' she thinks, looking over a few. When Jamie finally finds one she likes, Melisa quickly runs over and inspects it. "Yeah, this one should do fine," she says, smiling at the injured woman. Melissa lays her weapons down on the ground, then motions for Jamie to try getting in, while holding her hands out to help, if necessary.

It takes Jamie a few seconds to get situated comfortably, but the woman's mood had obviously gotten much better. "Alright! Now I won't be so much of a burden on you!" The sarge looked around a bit, before continuing to talk excitedly. "We could even shop around a bit at this pace, if there's anything you think we need. Plus we can carry even more now!" After the outburst the greenhead realized that she should perhaps keep her voice down still, lest the monsters hone in on them. A furious blush spread across her face.

"Hey, your not a burden, sarge" Melissa says, trying to ignore her annoyance earlier and keep the injured woman's spirits up. "You've helped out plenty! Sleeping in the store, and figuring out how to close the gate, and now the cart. You're the brains, I'm just the brawn."

Speaking of brawn, Melissa moves to the handlebar of the shopping cart and gives it a few pushes, to see how much strength she'd have to use to push Jamie around, and also how maneuverable and loud it might be. "Shopping might be a good idea," she says as she tests the cart. "Maybe we can find some bottled water or food." What Melissa really would want to find however, is more ammunition and bandages, both of which she is worried might run out before they reach the base they were headed for. Pushing the cart slowly, Melissa moves the two women into the grocery store, wondering what, if anything, was left after the chaos of the past couple of days.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Jamie stiffened up at thoughts of last night, but seemed content with Melissa's spoken opinion of her. She was easily moved about as the bluenette got them rolling. The front of the store was quite a mess, and Melissa had to dodge quite a few large, smashed objects, but once into the middle section the going was easier. While alot had been taken, and even more spilt on the floor, there were still intact items about. Jamie pointed out anything she saw, especially her favorites, like chips. Though for the most part, canned food was left. While that was good, as the food would keep, it wasn't exactly the best tasting. Some bottled drinks were left, and following the trend, mostly the more tasteless ones.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Past the point of caring about taste, Meliisa scoops up some of the canned food and bottled drinks, as well as a bag of chips for Jamie. "Just remember not to eat those until we're in a safe place," she says with a smirk at the injured woman, "Wouldn't want to get found by a bunch of monsters cause of you chomping on chips." She also keeps an eye out for something to open the cans with, since they wouldn't be much use otherwise. Bottled water, or even a gallon, is also a priority, to have something to clean Jamie's wound with. If nothing else, the pair could use clothing for bandages, though Melissa still holds out hope of finding gauze or something similar.

After grabbing enough supplies for a couple of days, Melissa starts moving the cart towards the store's exit. 'No sense going crazy in here, we've still got a lot of ground to cover,' she thinks, hoping to move as much as possible while there is still daylight outside.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Fortunately for the two women, can-openers were in great supply. They weren't exactly a hot item to loot. Placed in the cart, Jamie held onto it like a weapon, almost comically considering they were trained soliders. The space was quickly becoming cramped with all the supplies and the sarge inside. There was just enough room for two six packs of bottled waters, also not a popular item when looters could just take soft drinks with wild abandon. As Melissa prepared to head out, Jamie spoke up once more."Let's use the outside entrance. We're on the far side now, it'll let us out of here faster. And maybe the store office has a first aid kit we can raid."

"Good thinking, Sarge," Melissa says, trying to hold back her laughter at the woman's appearance. Turning the increasingly heavy cart around, Melissa heads back through the aisles of the store to look for the office. She isn't sure exactly where the room might be, she figures following the walls is a safe bet.

The store had checkouts at both ends, as the women got close to the exterior end Jamie guestured for Melissa to park her in one. "You can leave me there as you look for the store offices. Don't worry, I'll..." The sarge was about to say something more, probably about being okay to sit here by herself, but had clearly remembered what happened last time they tried that, and froze. She looked back at Melissa with a somewhat scared look on her face, unsure how to continue.

"It's okay sarge," Melissa says, eager to calm the woman down and keep her spirits up. "You come with me, and keep an eye out for me." Melissa wheels the cart through the store, looking for the store office. When she finds it, Melissa will park the cart outside of it, then motion to the crutches at Jamie's side and ask, "You want to come in? Or would you rather keep an eye out from here?"

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

The hall containing the two small offices for the store was not long, that seemed to put some confidence in Jamie. "No, just park me here, you'll be right inside where you can tell if somethings wrong, even if I... can't scream for some reason..." The sarge dismissed any further concern with a flick of her hand towards the first room. The door was open, showing plenty of stuff laying on the ground. "Hopefully they just wanted the cash, just look for a medkit and we can get rolling for good." As Melissa prepared to leave the other woman behind to search, an afterthought struck Jamie. "Oh, perhaps if we don't find anything here the public restrooms on the other side will have first aid kits? Or do you think we should just keep moving?"

Melissa nods, and says, "I'd like to get moving, but it shouldn't take too long to check the restrooms. We can check them if we need to, but hopefully we'll find something in here." With that, she grabs the shotgun and heads into the first room.

Not really expecting to find anything in the ransacked room, Melissa sifts through the debris littering the floor and through any desk drawers she can find. Once done, she heads further down the hall towards the second room. Remembering the incident with the creature in the security office yesterday, the soldier takes a moment to listen at the door for any noises, wary of getting into another dangerous situation like that.
