Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

The sarge took a bottle and quickly downed three pills. Both of them had lost track of how much medication the woman had taken, there was probably many rules she was breaking by taking so much. However, for the moment Jamie seemed content, but no doubt she'd be loopy later. Melissa would really have to watch how much of this stuff she took.

After just a minute of resting against the wall with a faint smile, the sarge spoke again. "So, do you have a plan?" She seemed tired, and in a far away place. She'd also seemed to have forgotten that as the ranking solider, it was her job to make the plan, not Melissa's, though that might have been for the best at the moment.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

The sarge popping the pills so quickly sends a wave of worry through Melissa, and she takes a step forward. "How bout you let me hang on to those, sa-Jamie," she says, attempting to sound comforting while holding her hand out for the bottles. "I'm going to need you to take a watch tonight, and you can't do that if you knock yourself out."

Again Melissa begins to worry about the normally cool and confident sergeant with her question of a plan, though she doesn't say anything on this matter. "Well, like you said, it's too dark for us to move with those things out there, so we can stay in the mall tonight." The corporal motions around the room, then continues, "This room should be good for the night. We can rig something up against the door to let us know if something tries to get in. In the morning we move out, reach base before dark tomorrow." It's not exactly an extensive plan, and part of Melissa hopes the sarge she remembers will pipe in and take over.

Jamie did not much like this plan, shifting around a bit in displeasure. "Can't we find a place a bit more comfortable? This floor is really hard, and my legs are getting even more restless sitting on it." While the whining coming from the sarge was a bit uncharacteristic, she did have a point. The woman's legs needed some gentle care right now, she'd been getting some harsh beatings to them today. At the very least some padding would really help her. If they weren't careful, Jamie might get an infection. Melissa would need to be careful with the sarge, but if she was a good nurse now, hopefully the woman would be of more use tomorrow.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

While she had been hoping the sarge would speak up, this wasn't what Melissa had in mind. Running a hand over her face, Melissa thinks about another place in the mall Jamie could rest. "Well, the changing rooms in one of the clothes shops might be more comfortable, but we won't really be able to make sure nothing gets in."

She thinks about it for a second, then groans inwardly as she has another idea. "There's a bed in the nurses station... You can rest there if you want. But there's some guy walking around, a drunk. I don't want to run into him again..." She pauses for a moment, not liking either option much. "What do you think, sergeant?" Melissa purposefully uses the woman's rank, rather than her name, hoping to jar some sense back into her.

The sergeant mumbles for a minute, she seems tired enough to just fall over asleep soon. "Let's just... find something... soft..." Pain pills have been known to make people fall sleep, whatever the two did, it would have to be fast. For the moment, however, Jamie was able to snap out of it for just a second. "We could... make a bed... with clothes, and pillows..." The sarge made some hand guestures, trying to think, and in a moment Melissia sort of had an idea about what the woman was trying to say. She basically thought that they could just get the bedding and put it in any location for a soft bed. Sure, it might be alot of long trips, but it was the best of both world. Melissa got the distinct impression that Jamie didn't like the bathroom either way, though.

With the woman nearly falling asleep on her feet, Melissa is almost ready to just stay in the bathroom after all. Jamie is insistent however, so Melissa relents. "Okay, Jamie, we'll find some place else for you." Melissa heads to the door and waits for the increasingly sleepy sarge to make her way out.

Jamie's idea about making a bead out of clothes was a good idea, enough so that Melissa discards the idea of heading back to the nurses station entirely. 'We can find a store with plenty of clothes, make a bed for sarge, and then I can finally find myself some underwear." Cautiously, Melissa leads Jamie towards the nearest clothing store and checks for a back room that has enough room for a makeshift bed.

Jamie was good time. She still didn't move all that fast, but the meds were working to keep her from flinching with each step. The women also seemed determined to get keep up, as if she knew she could rest after this one more trip.

The clothes stores were quiet. Once or twice the two thought they heard the drunk, but he never came around. As they got in the front of one, the sarge spoke again. "Maybe we can shut the metal gate in the front for a bit of security. Secure a flank." The woman hobbled over to the cash register and tried to support herself as she looked for a key to lock said gates. "See if you can get into the stock rooms and secure the any doors to the stores next to us and outside. I'll yell if anyone comes by." While she looked a bit pathetic standing there like that, it was refreshing to see the sarge giving orders again.

"Roger that, sarge," Melissa says, a smile on her face as she runs towards the back of the building to check the back rooms. They hadn't heard or seen much of anything on their way to the clothing store, and now the sarge is coming back to her old self. 'Things might not be as bad as they seem,' she thinks as she begins checking the rooms for extra exits.

Behind the clothes store, in the same hall as the dressing rooms, were store rooms and office space, a miniwarehouse really. All malls generally had such places for each shop. There were two doors on each end of the large room, to each neighboring store, Melissa could secure them easy by pushing some of the boxes up against them, though it'd take a few minutes. A quick survey showed the stores hallway did not connect to anywhere else, so this coupled with the gate up front would make the two soldiers a nice little fort for the night.

Before sealing the doors leading to the other stores, Melissa takes a quick peek inside each, just to know where the exits lead to. If the neighboring shops have anything interesting, the two women can grab them in the morning. After her quick check, she begins moving the boxes in place to secure the doors.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

The store on the left was another clothing store. Nothing special, no reason to switch, especially after prepping this store. The store on the right seemed to be a cell phone and other such electronics dealer. High end fancy stuff, for the fashon queens that no doubt frequented this store.

Seeing as everything was in order, the fortification could begin. The boxes moving made a horrible noise, loud high pitched screaming sound. The walls muffled the sound a bit, hopefully, but it still was quite noticable. Still, after the job was done, it'd be a bit of a moot point.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Gritting her teeth against the grating sound, Melissa slides the boxes in front of the door to the clothing store then moves over to the other exit. At first the cell phone shop piques her interest, the woman still hoping to find some way of contacting help, but her experience with the ambulance's radio disabuses her of finding anything useful in there. 'All of those dinky civ phones will be just useless after that blast,' she thinks as she begins to move the boxes into place.

After finishing off sealing the doors, Melissa moves back into the front of the store. "Get the gate down, Sarge?" she calls, walking up to the front of the store while also checking the aisles for some underwear she could slip on. At this point, Melissa isn't very picky, as long as it will give her some relief from her chafing uniform.

As she does she feels a tinge of remorse, thinking back to how she had lost her underwear in the first place and had been saved by the drunken man. Sure he had been annoying and aggressive, but with all those monsters running around, it feels a little cruel to leave him all alone in the mall. Maybe the women should call out to him and let him enter the store, to give him someplace safe to sleep off the alcohol? 'Nah,' she thinks, dismissing the idea, 'He's a big boy, he can take care of himself. And it'd be hell trying to keep him in line while we slept."

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

In her preoccupation with finding some comfortable undergarments, Melissa didn't realize that the sarge hadn't answered. She'd found a suitable choice, and her thoughts had ironically turned to the man when she heard what he was up to. All of a sudden there was a loud, but muffled, scream from up front of the store. The man had found Jamie, and who knows how long he'd had her if all she could do was utter a muffled scream.

Dropping the undergarments she had picked, Melissa runs to the front of the store, gripping the grenade launcher as she does. "Sarge!" she yells, "Hold on, I'm coming!"

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Melissa burst out of the clothing rows to see the man molesting the sarge. He had some sort of choke made out of tied clothes in her mouth, and she couldn't get back up on her own with her injured legs. He currently had her top and bra off and was slowly rubbing one breast in a circular motion. Jamie's eyes were wide in horror. The two noticed Melissa at the same time, but the man couldn't get up right away and was still uncoordinated. His leg caught on a display and he fell down, giving the solider the first move.

"You son of a bitch!" Melissa yells stomping towards the man with her grenade launcher held in a clenched fist. Hurt as she was, Jamie was in no condition to be fighting off attackers like the monsters out there, and the cowboy had taken advantage of that. As she comes upon the man, she raises the weapon and brings it down on the back of his head. "You want to have some fun? I'll have some fun with the back of your god damn head!" If the man is lucky, Melissa will stop after knocking him unconscious. If he's too drunk to be knocked out, however, there will be one less drunken cowboy in the world.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Hit Chance

17+35 = 52 vs 42 = 17+25

Damage

7+(26/2) = 20

The strike lands right where Melissa aimed for, bringing a whoop of pain from the man, but he doesn't seem all that discouraged. "Oh, still a fighter I see. I just love it when yall play hard to get!"

Grapple

8+40 = 48 vs 52 = 17+35

The man gets a gold of Melissa's ankle for a second, but just the movement of her normal manuvering shakes him loose.

"Shut up!" she yells down at the man, "Just shut the fuck up!" She steps away from his grab at her ankle, only to bring her foot forward again in a swift kick towards his face.

Re: Not Your Typical Work Day (xivvix)

Hit Chance

6+35 = 42 vs 38 = 13+25

Damage

(26/2) = 13

Melissa's foot connected with the man's face, but not against any major feature. He'd be smarting, but could keep fighting. A mumbled string of curses floated upwards from the man.

Grapple

3+40 = 43 vs 42 = 7+35

This time the man was able to latch onto the solider's foot as she kicked, screaming "Got ya now bitch!" in triumph.

Though her foot connected with Billy's face with a satisfying thud, Melissa is far from pleased, hopping in place on one foot while the prone man pulls on her ankle. "All you've got is trouble," she growls as she raises the grenade launcher, ready to bring it crashing down on her attacker's head once again.
