Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)

Raven follows the others quietly, and when asked to give up his weapons, spreads his arms to show that he doesn't have any.

Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)

Once the group had relinquished their weapons, they are promptly escorted up to the castle by a squad of guards armed with heavy crossbows and swords, lead up to the top of the pyramid and the wide stairs curling up to the third floor of Castle Korvosa. It was there however, that the party would find themselves greeted by a beautiful woman clad in magnificent full plate armor...

...One that most among the group would easily recognize. Sabina Merrin, handmaiden, bodyguard, and personal companion to the queen even prior to her ascension to the throne.

"Greetings. The guards tell me you've something that belongs to the queen. Is this correct?"

"Ayup." Jess says simply, holding it up long enough for the woman to recognize it before tossing it over. She expected the Queen's handmaiden to be a little more honest the average guard, after all. Nevermind that the woman creeped Jess out a bit. That sword had to be at least the size of the halfling, after all...

((Anyone who wishes to know more info about the Sabina, roll a Knowledge Local check. Otherwise...))

Sabina catches the brooch deftly, examining it up close once more, before smiling and opting to stand aside, holding out a hand in a gesture of welcome.

"This way then please, the queen would like to thank loyal subjects of the crown in person."

As the guards make ready to follow however, the handmaiden would cut in once again so as to dismiss them...

"You may return to your posts. These heroes pose no threat to the queen."

...Leaving the group alone with the Queen's personal companion as they embarked to the throne room.

"So tell me. How would each of you prefer to be introduced to Her Majesty?"

((Can't get to my sheet or the diceroller for the next two days, most likely. If you wanna roll one for Jess, go ahead. Otherwise, I can do without))

"Uh... Jessica, I guess. Of Korvosa?" She replied, adding a shrug for emphasis. Apart from right now, she couldn't think of much she had done the would be worth note to royalty. Even less so that wouldn't carry a chance of getting her jailed.

Raven thinks for a moment before looking into Sabina's eyes. "Raven Keats. An entrepreneur."

"Just Izak will do." Izak says as he crosses his arms and begins thinking.

Elizabeth looked at the woman's weappon and blinked slightly, then shook her head, although she loved her maul, she didn't think she would ever be able to properly wield a blade like that. As she was asked how she wanted to be introduced, she immediate said, "Elizabeth, of the 5th Patrol." Before pausing, remembering that technically... she was still being reprimanded for not following procedures...

Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)

"Very well, I shall announce you to Her Majesty as you request."

Taking in the party's choice of introductions one by one as they rounded the corner, Sabina would opt to don a wry smile as they approached the doors to the Throne Room. Then, after an initial knock on the doors, she would indeed announce their arrival loud and clear, true to her word.

"Arriving are Jessica of Korvosa, the entrepreneur Raven Keats, Izak, Elizabeth, and Ankieseth: Retrievers of Her Majesty's brooch!"

"Enter."

Stepping aside as the doors swung open, Sabina bows and gestures for the group to enter...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The throne room, as one would expect, was quite magnificent. Lavishly decorated with frescoes, mosaics, and hanging tapestries of gilt crimson silk...truly quite the difference from even that of the common nobility. Three colorful stained-glass panes on the windows present scenes of past kings and queens. A huge fireplace stands in the east corner, its mantle shaped like an enormous stone tree that has spread its branches up to the ceiling. Against the southwest wall, on a low dais of granite, sits the Crimson Throne itself, and iron throne draped with deep red silks and velvety crimson cushions. And upon that...the ruler of Korvosa, breathtakingly beautiful to some, even in spite of her mourning dress.
Queen Ileosa
Pensive, stiff, or perhaps rigid is her initial disposition...not even bothering to glance at the ones returning her brooch at first as her gaze is directed at her handmaiden. However, once the latter had returns the brooch to her in a flourish, before returning to her side, she finally manages a smile as she turns her attention to those gathered before her.
"This brooch was stolen from me some time ago- I had not expected to see it again, truth be told. And yet, here on my darkest day, you come before me with kindness. The return of this brooch is much more than an honorable deed. It is inspiration. It is hope. For that, you have my gratitude."
Izak is the first to respond, taking two steps forward, then throwing back one end of his scarf that had wound its way to his shoulder, before dropping to his left knee and placing both of his hands on his outstretched right. "Your majesty, your words are far too kind. As well, your gratitude is welcome, but I fear I personally cannot accept it." Izak speaks, his tone having changed, trying to conceal his normally raspy voice as best he can. He seemed to know what he was doing, taking on a level of reformity in his voice that the others would not have guessed of him.
Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)
Ankieseth finds himself perhaps surprisingly unimpressed by the lavish decorations of the palace, and quickly finds himself simply watching the people around him as they were led to an audience with the Queen. Even as he beholds the Crimson Throne and the Queen of Korvosa herself Ankieseth finds himself largely unmoved, but the ranger takes a knee as appropriate before royalty and bows his head. He was about to speak when Izak beat him to it, and Ankieseth shoots a surprised look at the scarred thief following his greeting.
Deciding that it would be best now for him to remain silent, Ankieseth glances covertly at her and waits, the questions he wanted to ask boiling in his mind. Now was probably not the time to ask them, however.
Jess stayed quiet as well, taking a moment longer to bow than some of the others. She had no idea how to act about royalty, so she just stayed like that. Besides, it sounded like the Queen wasn't finished her speech anyways.
Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)
Elizabeth wasn't really sure how to show herself in this place, the most regal setting she had ever been in, after all, was probably the captain's promotion ceremony, and even then, she simply wore her uniform, but back then, it was still new... did it look good enough now? Or should she clean it up... She looked herself over quickly before deciding to simply stand there, and not say anything, to listen to the rest of the speech...
Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)
"My gratitude is extended to all of you, loyal servants to the crown. I love Korvosa, as my husband did before me. His death has shocked the city as it has me, but I will not see his legacy destroyed in death, and I shall not see my city torn apart. All Korvosa stands at the precipice of a disaster wrought by her citizens—these riots cannot continue. You have already done my heart a great service in returning this bauble to me on this dark day, and you shall be rewarded. Yet, perhaps you can serve your city more...
Izak looks up from the floor where he had his head bowed in reverence. "It would be an honor and a privilege, Your Majesty." he states, then bows his head back down, awaiting his companion's answers and the queen's as well.
Ankieseth nodded silently in agreement with Izak, still not looking up all the way. Getting in good with royalty would make finding out what he needed that much easier.
"Alright, I'm in." Jess says with a shrug. "Your Majesty." She added after just a second, her tone a little apologetic.
Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)
"In that event, if you should so choose, I shall have Sabina see to it that you shall have an escort of guards when you leave here---they can see to your safe journey to Citadel Volshyenek. I shall send word ahead of you to Field Marshal Cressida Kroft to let her know you are on the way --- the Korvosan guard is stretched thin, and it can certainly use the aid of heroes such as yourself. Now, I need to retire to my personal quarters --- my grief has drained me. Again, I thank you for the kindness you have shown me, and I hope your days of serving the crown are only just beginning."
With this final statement, it is then that the queen opts to direct Sabina to hand over the reward for returning the brooch, a small but valuable silver chest with a red velvet-lined interior... holding a dozen golden ingots imprinted with the royal seal of Korvosa. Soon following, the Queen exits the chamber with a whirl of the hem of her mourning dress, leaving the party with Sabina.
"Is there anything else that you require? If not, I shall see you on your way to Citadel Volshyenek..."
Re: Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy (IC Thread)
Ankieseth shook his head. Everything he had was on his person at the moment, save for his weapons which were with the guards and his tiny house which he couldn't really carry with him.
