Slime Trek

In orbit around the small red star was a field of asteroids, the largest of which were laced with tunnels for a colony of military scientists that have just completed construction of their greatest project to date. Space Ship that could repair itself. The fact that it could change it's shape and layout, was sort of cybernetic life form, and could interface with Slime Girls were incidental side-effects that could be ironed out at a later date. But today was a day that their early stage prototype would be launched for field testing, the Space Slime Silversheen.

Meliseme walked down the hallway. She liked walking, despite being able to flow or ooze her way around, being a Slime Girl. Holding her form solid and mimicking the human female shape used to take a lot of concentration, but for Meliseme it was a point of pride how easy it was for her to do. A testament to her strength of will.

Which was the reason she was chosen as the captain for the Silversheen. The space slime didn't respect any one master, and would try it's best to reflect the wishes of all of it's slime girl crew. A will strong enough to direct a colony of slime girls was needed to command a space slime, and what stronger will than a Slime Queen.

Faces smiled at Meliseme as she walked by, technicians, scientists and engineers too numerous for her to recognize on her own, her distinctive captain's hat signifying her rank and pointing her out from other slimes of her type.

In but a few moments, this unique Slime Girl would be on her new ship, letting her will subsume into it and override the noise that whole colony of slime girls would normally cause. Just another hallway, the airlock, and then the gangway to the Silversheen.

There's still some time before she needs to be on duty. Board the ship now?

• Since there's time to spare, how about a snack? Detour to the station's cafeteria.
• Nothing like making friends with the brass. Let's go to the observation deck and talk to our sponsors.

Two Blue Slimes were waiting for the airlock to finish a safety cycle, their lower halves melting into a single puddle of slime. Both were stereotypically happy, one singing merely, "Space Ship, Slime Ship, take me away from here~! I wanna dance in zero gee~! With a cup of beer~ and a dude named Lee~!" and the other providing a bubble box (failing comically at beat boxing).

They stopped when they noticed Meliseme approach. "Captain!" they exclaimed in unison, somehow getting even happier, "Everyone's almost ready! And so excited"

"Wonderful," Meliseme happily, "I'm can barely wait myself." With her left few steps she walked into their shared puddle, then let her bottom half melt and join them. They giggled, and she could feel their giddiness flow through her. "Let's go in together, shall we?" their captain suggested as she put her arms around her subordinate's shoulders.

A second later, the airlock opened, allowing them to progress onto the one of the many gangplanks of the Silversheen. Being an extension of the space slime, Meliseme was instantly connected to it when she oozed onto the ship. along with her two subordinates.

Unlike them, Meliseme had a colony of nanites in her body, which lit up and glowed as they connected to . This nanite colony allowed her to connect to the Silversheen's observation systems, letting keep track of it's condition more intimately than it could by relaying the information through the slime link it shared with everyone else on board.

"Oooh~! Pretty lights," cooed the two blue slimes as they noticed Meliseme light up with tiny twinkling dots.

Suddenly, gravity in the gangplank shifted, and all three slimes suddenly 'fell' to the end, yelping at the sudden change. The door 'beneath' them melted away, and Meliseme noticed the gangplank had sealed off and started retracting from the station's airlock. They landed with a slash against a liquid silver wall, temporarily losing their solid forms.

"Looks like someone else is eager," Meliseme grumbled as she reformed, along with the two blues. He awareness expanded as she linked with the Silversheen. Not only was she aware of the space slime's condition in technical terms through her nanite colony, she could also feel the Silversheen's feelings now. As many of the slime girl crew members were eager to go, so was the ship. It was only a matter of time before it decided to break lose and explore the galaxy on it's own. Through the slime link, she could also feel the presence of all the other slimes on board, their feelings and surface thoughts.

Expanding her will, Meliseme calmed the massive vessel. You Queen is here, Silversheen. We go when I say so. But don't worry, it will be soon. she commanded it through the slime link, and it instantly responded. The various gangplanks it had retracted began reforming, and it's shifting body calmed and solidified.

Suddenly, Meliseme was all business. She kept a subtle smile, but the various slimes nearby suddenly felt an aura of command. It would have been intimidating, if not for her own confidence flowing through the slime link and permeating the ship. Ship wide broadcast, she commanded, and instantly a bit of the ceiling melted and reformed into a dangling microphone. Meliseme's gentle voice suddenly became strong, and it boomed through the ship. "Attention crew mates. This is your captain speaking. Today is the Silversheen's maiden voyage and the beginning of our seven year commission to break her in and show the universe that slimes can walk stars as well as anyone else. To your stations and prepare for space flight. Launch is scheduled for 0900 hours."

Meliseme could feel the ships and all the slime crew mate's elation at her address, and an abundance of giddiness. It was infectious, but not overwhelming, though she was tempted to indulge herself as she wandered the halls of her vessel. She didn't need to be on the bridge to be in charge.

The a video screen grew out of the floor and started following her. An instant of static, and then a face she knew well appeared. A wrinkly old man with massive glasses and a bad comb over. "Ah, Captain. It's a good thing you finally boarded. Silversheen started acting up as the crew boarded, but it seems you've calmed it down. Nice address, by the way..."

"Thank you, Director Fraücher. But if you don't mind, I'm making some rounds before we embark."

"Of course, Captain. I just wanted to compliment my favourite research subject," he said with a wink obscured by his massive glasses. With that, the screen blinked off and melted back into the floor. Meliseme raspberried the disappearing communication as it disappeared; she didn't like Dr.Faücher.

Where to now?

• To the forward social deck, the extra wide glass covered hallway with a great view of the stars and research facility.
• To one of the various fire control boards, to check on the weapon systems and gunnery crew first hand.
• To the on board laboratories, check up on our resident magicians and scientists.
• To the hanger bays, and chat with the fighter pilots and techs.
• To the nearest mess hall, if not for a snack, then for a conversation with the non-coms.
• To the observatory, see what the sensor techs are talking about.
