He nods. "Chances are he doesn't have the resources Ms. Frederick does, so you should be fine. If not, well like I said, he's in for a nasty surprise."


A brief moment and he shakes his head. "No, far as I know she is a loner."

"Maybe, maybe not. I haven't seen you do anything that I wasn't capable of before, so if he actually has access to what I had, instead of them just being lost, you'd be in for a hell of a fight." She said cautiosly, slowing down to a walk. "Hmm, maybe not then. If you feed a living creature my blood, they gain some supernatural strengths, and don't age as long as the blood is in their system. They also become very dedicated and loyal to whoever's blood it is, sort of an 'unconditional love' kinda thing." She explains.

He shrugged at the first part. "Suppose we'll deal with that if and when that unlikely scenario plays out then."

A pause and then, "yeah as I said, I know she's not undead, that much I know for certain. The rumor is that she's not from this planet, but I don't buy that one bit."


He slows them down just a little, then adds, "what about you? I'm sure there's something else you want to ask, isn't there?"

Ellen shrugged. "Nothing really important, at least not that I can think of right off. Why don't you guys keep that football indoors though?" She asked, more to keep the conversation than anything else.

"Umm, excuse me?" Dex walks up to Macleod. "Sorry to interrupt, but I didn't figure I'd stay here permanently. I'll need to drive back and pack things." After a moment she adds "I'll be back before nightfall, probably."

Chris looked at Dex for a moment, probably wondering how long she'd been there. "Uh yeah sure, just be careful if your not back before full sunset, the roads can be very decieving at night. How ... long were you there for that I was ignoring you?"

He turns to Ellen and chuckles. "Because tossing that thing around is a lot of fun, and it's one of the few artifacts that ISN'T dangerous."

Inside, Sean got settled back into his desk, and went back to pouring over the various books and binders around him, and entering information into the computer.

Dex blinks and shakes her head. "I just walked over here, why. . ." She raises her head lightly and raises a single eyebrow. "Ooooh, so I am interrupting. No worries, I didn't catch any of your super secret secrets." She reaches into her pocket and produces a car key. Letting it jingle for a moment she adds "Right, I'll be back soon. Ciao." She turns and heads for the exit, the hand with the keys raised to a wave behind her.

Ellen just raises an eyebrow, watching the other woman leave. After Dex leaves, she turns back to Chris. "So, was there anything else you wanted?"

"I think that fairly well covered the basics there. Oh, just expect Claudia to probably ask you a lot of questions, she always does anyone new."

"Am I expected to bare myself to her, too?" Ellen asked with a sigh, turning the jog around to head back to the warehouse.

Chris shrugged. "Entirely up to you, but no you don't have to tell her the truth. She's not as perceptive as I am, not enough experience yet. A few more years though and she might be a capable replacement to me."

He turns around with her, heading back for the warehouse. "I'll walk you back to the Bed and Breakfast, but after that I have something I need to attend to, so I won't be staying long."

"Good enough for me." Ellen says simply, drawing her hood back now that the sun had dipped completely below the horizon and watching the fields passively.

could be heard coming from the office, where Sean was. Chris would likely recognize the significance of Sean's choice, having heard it before under similar situations.

Chris nodded, then continued onward. They soon reached the Warehouse, and he briefly stopped to check the logs. A slight frown crossed his face and he turned to Ellen, a slightly sheepish look on his face.

"I'll scan you into the Bed and Breakfast, but looks like I won't be able to head up and walk you to your room. Discrepancy in the log so I need to check that out real fast, is that ok with you?"

"Yeah, not a problem." Eleen says with a smirk, pulling her hood back up now that they were inside. "Have fun with that."

"Yeah, not likely but thanks."

He smiles then scans her in, making sure she gets back to the Bed and Breakfast before returning here, listening briefly to the music. After a few moments he heads back in and starts digging through the logs, suspecting something was foul, and hoping he was wrong.



An hour later he clicked his radio on and spoke softly. "Sean, when you get a chance, come up to the main room please."

Sean came out fairly quickly, hand already raised to his forehead. "What this time?"

It was pretty easy to tell that he was getting irritated about some of the day's events...and perhaps something else.

He was silent for a moment, as if gauging things, then spoke.

"I don't think the power outage and the containment failure was an equipment problem or something Claudia did. I found traces of an unknown program that accessed the Warehouse systems remotely, from OUTSIDE the state. I can't trace it now because the connection isn't live, but I can tell you it wasn't from within South Dakota for sure. Someone hacked us, though I'm not sure how."

A low growl escaped Sean, and he was probably thankful that Chris was the only one in the immediate area as his face shifted to a rather bumpy appearance, as well as his teeth shifted. "Great. So someone not only knows, but apparently wants to have all of their buddies spend a few hours in suits listening to somber music."
