If you happen to run into anything you think might interest me... Hold on a second." The daemon says, and points to something behind her. A tiny bead of light flies from his extended finger, and before she can even turn around, Ashley hears a loud boom from somewhere off behind her. "Where was I? Ahhh, yes. If you find something that might interest me, all you need to do is say my name, and I'll come running."
Ashleys Status: HP = 32, P = 38, EP = 30
(No plans at the moment.)

Ashley glowers at the perceived insult but holds her tongue, understanding that a non-human might tend to lump all humans together, and considering that the daemon probably spends most of its time around places like this.
"Do you know where, approximately, the portal itself is? I think I'd like to avoid going too much closer unless I know exactly what I'm dealing."

"Very well, good luck to you, human." The daemon replies, and starts walking away, going past her and down the street Ashley had come from. It was odd to see him walk after he'd seemingly evaporated the first time, but Ashley supposed that he could do as he wished.

Maybe he doesn't have anywhere in particular to go, in which case walking around with his 'eyes' open is as good a use of his time as any.
Ashley, herself a little short on anything specific to do at the moment, stays where she is as the daemon walks away. She takes advantage of the moment to take a good look around and to listen carefully for anything alive.

Ashley was slightly disturbed to find that the area was completely silent except for the nearby river. There were no sounds of birds or insects, nothing she'd expect from a Spring afternoon. She couldn't see anything moving except Matthias, and eventually even he disappeared from sight.

Ashley decides to poke around a nearby building and see if there's anything she can learn, or anything useful. Or valuable, for that matter. Seeing nothing particularly interesting, she decides to visit the one the daemon had used to launch his attack from. Two squirrels indeed... I wonder why they were there but nothing at all alive seems to be here...

Perception: Success.
Matthias didn't leave any physical signs of passing, but Ashley knows that a working of magic of that magnitude will leave some kind of sign, so she follows that. After an uneventful five minutes of travel she reaches a warehouse with a massive hole burned in one side. Looking across the river she sees a massive patch of burned forest where the beam had hit, and Ashley guesses that the daemon must have been in the building when he'd cast his spell.

The building was filled with crates, though the area she could see was fairly large and empty. In the center, there were a pair of legs, burned off at the knee, slumped over.

Body vs 50: 2 + 20 + 3 = 25 vs 50 = Failure.

Ashely glares at the box that refused to open. She stepped forward, and glared even harder. She put her hands on her hips and leaned forward, toward the lip that had refuse to budge and gave it the evil eye, and bent the world to her will.
