Re: Games Discussion Thread

BioWare, Y U RELEASE ME3 DEMO ON VALENTINE'S DAY?!?
For all of us single people to have something to do.

And it wasn't just the fact that the final battle was so anti-climatic, it's the fact that they portrayed the Dragonborn as someone to be revered, someone who's the last hope for not just Skyrim, but for all of Tamriel. But instead it turns out that to actually properly defeat him you need the power of the three other Dragonborn that failed the first time. If they weren't in Sovngarde to assist in removing the mist you'd have been just as fucked as the rest of the souls trapped in the mist. Also, no credits at the end or an explanation on how the Dragonborn's actions affected Skyrim in later years? Seriously? I understand there wasn't much in the way that the Dragonborn's actions would've changed but come one, what about the civil war? I want to at least see how siding with the Stormcloaks changed Skyrim. It all just reeks of DLC.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So true, I would have rather waited another year for them to release a complete game instead of 1/2 to 1/3 of a game at a time in DLCs.

I actually did buy Skyrim, but I'm not going to be paying them for splitting a full title into pieces.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

The ME3 demo is neat. And apparently there's also a demo for the multiplayer bits, but if you don't own Battlefield 3 it doesn't unlock until the 17th.

Yeah, I played the demo on the 14th and I really enjoyed it. Got to love the new hard melee insta-kill attack, though if you time it wrong you're pretty much fucked if the enemy has surrounded you. Being able to penetrate cover is a nice touch too.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Yup. Go out and buy Battlefield 3 post haste, unless you can wait literally three days. Of course, someone somewhere is playing that demo competitively, and three days would make all the difference.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

yeah, trying a demo isn't worth 60 bucks to me, i don't care how much effort anyone else is putting into it. so i'll wait the 24 hours until the 18th, yep. also, pretty sure ME3 multiplayer is more or less co-op, so meh.

Nice to see the different marios games merged together like that. I kind of miss the music from the 00:57- mark.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

It is really annoying that I have to download a whole demo for another game to get the unlocks for ME3.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

But you don't. The single player still works, and the multiplayer will unlock tomorrow anyway. The game still doesn't come out for two weeks, so even if you are forced to wait the twelve woeful hours until you can try the multiplayer you'll have plenty of time to learn it forwards and backwards should you so desire.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

That's still silly, because you've got to download a free thing which you can then ignore forever to get some neat stuff. It might be sillier, because now there's no investment required! In fact, I hope this does well for EA, because the prospect of being asked to try a game to be rewarded in a game I intend to play is one that ought to catch on.

Those two items for ME3 sound pretty cool. Guess I'm going to have to download that demo as well.

If the armor is indeed designed for close quarters, I'll have to get it for my vanguard. I wanted to check out Kingdoms of Amalur anyway, so it's not that bad for me.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Just started the ME3 download, which will take all fucking day because live's network is so fuckin slow (seriously it should take 5hrs at my max dl speed but it won't use that), I didn't realize they were being serious about the fight for earth, as in I'd actually be fighting on earth.

I'm mildly excited about this, fighting collectors on the plains of the sarangeti with spears whizzing past my head, trudging through the frozen wastes of siberia to destroy an enemy beach-head, scurrying through the rubble of new york to gather intelligence on enemy forces. But I fear that none of these things will happen, because then this would actually be a complete game. Don't get me wrong, ME games are usually long enough for even me, but somehow I just get the feeling like fighting on earth is going to be led up to with so much hype only to end in a single battle at an indescriminate location.

Perhaps this is just continued dissapointment from 2 halo games where I couldn't even recognize earth (Though I didn't get to finish 1). But isn't that the whole point of having a battle for earth? To make the player feel like they're fighting for their home instead of some foreign landscape that could easily be on another planet? I want to see the statue of liberty, that theatre in sidney (I think that's what it is), big ben, the great wall, the pyramids, the kremlin. I want to be fighting for my planet, not just hopping around the galaxy all game to end in a couple of fights on earth.

I should mention that I haven't read a single thing about ME3 outside of this thread.

Edit 4 hours later: FUCKINGLOLOLOLOLOLZ LIVE DISCONNECTED THE DL AT 1%

I actually did not get on with that game at all. Not like I didn't give it a chance either... about 5 hours of playing before I decided enough was enough.

epic win, because everyone knows what vancouver looks like. Heh, I'd even be pressed to find it on a labeled globe (I could give a more or less accurate location of the places I mentioned on an unlabeld one). But I can't fault them too much, it's their creation and re-creating what you know well as opposed to over-reaching and getting things wrong is admirable.
