Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

The spider had her arms raised to block her face - damnable magic got her anyway as it felt like her insides were burning away, though she didn't feel any real damage, nor a breeze on any freshly exposed spider-girl guts, so Solidyn figured she was alright. She was more concerned about what that attack meant for her mage, though - she knew from experience that the kind of pain she was in now was to the stores of power used for magic, which was in finite supply for both Kor and herself.

"RrrrRRRRRRrgggh!" Solidyn growled. "We are withdrawing! Cannon! Blast that magic purple booger!"

As soon as the cannonball left, Solidyn retreated over the the edge of the building on the side the spell-slinging slime wouldn't be able to see her. She hoped Kor would save his energy... but also wouldn't be altogether unhappy if he retaliated, as well. She expected those two rushing her down would catch her - a quick spider, Solidyn was not - but she had a plan.

"Make absolutely sure ya chains are secure, gents!"

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

Kor was all for the running away plan, and even more for not wasting any more of what he had to spare on what could be a trap altogether.

Holding on to Solidyn, who was sounding the retreat, Kor didn't make any offensive move, but he kept his guard fully up while she did.

I do declare...

Full Defense

Kor'Ensiloth: HP = 50/68, PP = 78, EP = 31/89, Status = Fine, Upkeep = 1, Buffeting Winds, Harsh Winds

Solidyn-Nolu: HP = 60, PP = 50, EP = 56/80, Status = Fine, Blessing X = 2, Upkeep = 1, Holy Wall Shield X = 5, +13 Dodge and may expend at any time for a 50 point damage absorption

NPCs
Aurelia Korort: HP = 104, PP = 43, EP = 105, Status = Fine, off on her own

8 Kobold Gunners, each took 6 HP and 3 EP damage.

Slime Mage: Spent/lost 31 EP
Slime 1: Fine?
Slime 2: Fine?
Slime 3: Lost 19 EP

Rolls
FIRING
Attack: Hit.
Damage: 54 + 14 + 8 = 76, 76/4 = 19 damage. The shot goes through both slimes though, hitting both.
Then Solidyn backs up towards the edge of the building. The two nearby slimes give chase and attempt to leap glomp her.
Attacks: Both miss. No slime on spider action today.
The magic slime, annoyed by this, attempts to cast Blackflame Blade
Casting: Success.
Attack: Miss.
It then retreats down the side of the building as well.
The kobolds desperately hold on and cannot fire the side guns or reload the main one.

Solidyn's gunners obeyed instantly, turning the heavy cannon on its various axles until it pointed at the violet slime. The gray one guarding it moved to block their shot, but when the gun thundered it blasted through the impeding slime with ease and tore a chunk of it - and the slime that it had been trying to block for - away instantly. The shell exploded against the building beyond, but both slimes seemed badly disrupted, the gray one shrinking in on itself and trying to reform. The other two grays oozed towards the spider at full speed just as Solidyn began to back away, but both suddenly leaped into the air and hurled themselves towards her before she could quite get over the lip of the roof.

Kor's magical wind took action then, gusts lifting the flying slimes just out of the arc that would allow them to collide into Solidyn. That had the incidental effect of hurling them over the side of the building, both vanishing from sight. The sorcerous slime, now almost alone, began to back away, but not before it cast one last spell. It flashed brilliantly, energy spreading from its core until it coalesced in the air in front of it and burst into black flame. The flame whirled into a four bladed glaive before hurling towards the armored spider woman on a curving path. Again Kor's magical wind tried to divert the spell, but this time it wasn't enough. Thankfully, Solidyn's magical shield intercepted it just before it would have struck her, causing the flame weapon to deflect aside instead.

The strike didn't dissipate, however, and instead flew aside only to begin circling backwards. Its source retreated back beyond the other side of the roof just before Solidyn did much the same, but the burning glaive didn't vanish or lose track of her still. Down below, there was no sign of the two slimes that had fallen to the ground as the kobolds and Kor clung to her back.

"Fuckin' slime!" the big spider cursed, disappearing over the lip of the building. Quickly, she drew up her magic and used it to spring forth a bubble around her, forbidding her enemies from crossing the barrier, lest her magic-suffused will incinerate them. She thought it sufficient to keep them unmolested directly by any slimes, though she wasn't quite as sure about that spinning magic blade...

"Kor! Kill 'at wizard-thing attackin' us! You do 'dispels' right?!" barked Solidyn, who rotated to place her humanoid torso facing the ground. She wouldn't be the steadiest of platforms, but it was better than hanging off of her, surely.

"yea yea I'm on it." Kor answered, keeping his eye on the 'Wizardy thing' while he worked out the spell. He was more interested in getting somewhere he could recover and replenish. Which would be tricky unless he dove into the fray below and started draining people left and right.

Dispel. Lvl 2.
Base casting 10. 2 Ep. Targeting yon homing glaive of doom.

EP at 28.

Solidyn shields up around herself.
Slimes try to get through it.
Resistance: Solidyn keeps them at bay.
Damage: 8 damage on said slimes.

Kor tries to dispel a slime
Casting: Success.
Resistance: ??

Forming a bubble around themselves, Solidyn felt that barrier tested almost as soon as she'd completed it, the two slimes from below stealthily oozing their way up through the mortar in the connecting stones. The one from above leaped down at them as well, but not a one of them could pierce the spider's barrier even though the force of gravity nearly allowed the one coming from above to force its way in at them. It ended up sliding down and flopping far below to the ground, where it crashed and flattened only to begin gathering itself together again immediately.

Kor and the kobolds, in the meantime, clutched desperately to the gigantic spider's back, though while the lesser faeries could only keep themselves in place, Kor still had access to his magic. Reaching out with his magic, he lashed out at where the caster slime had been only to find it gone, the lack of line of sight making it impossible for him to aim the magic with any accuracy. He felt it hit and dispel something, but whatever it was didn't seem to have any noticeable effect. The slime didn't come over the lip to try and cast at them, however, leaving its current location impossible to guess.

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

"Keep running, we need to regroup with someone and recharge. We did what we needed to do." Kor said, keeping an eye out for the slime, and an eye on the flying glaive. He had meant to dispel the glaive, but his own spell had sought out the glaive's summoner. If it came around for another pass he'd have to focus on destroying it outright instead. Or at the very least, they could leave outside it's range.

"I'm at a bit of a loss Solidyn" He continued, eyeing the smaller figures on the ground somewhat hungrily. This long battle would be something of a personal trial for himself. A battle of endurance he was not accustomed to if they continued to hold their position outside the primary melee where he couldn't recharge himself from his enemies at will. He'd been so concerned with an enemy counterspell he hadn't even dared try it on the slimes.

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

Solidyn felt nice and safe inside of her bubble just now... and in the meanwhile, both those slimes were still here, waiting to jump them as soon as she left her protective bubble. Seeing the slime splatter and sizzle, and then ultimately drip down against the burning wall of will that encircled the giant spider and her allies, Solidyn immediately clasped her swordblade fingers together and focused, willing up another bubble of force - this time, staring hard at the slime. The bubble settled in around it; the massive spider hoped to trap the tricky little bastards where they couldn't slither away from her and her crew.

Solidyn kept right where she was, not moving. That infuriating magical blade flying about was surely around to strike at them - better to stay put in something that might give them shelter from it, rather than to attempt to leave and have some of her 'bolds diced. "We're not moving - I'll not leave cover when I know 'at thing's still around. Kor, either ready a dispel in case 'at thing comes at us again - mind my barrier if'n ya do - or start draining those little liquid shits 'ta replace yer reserves, aye? The rest a' ya, brace assume wall-cling positions, get eyes around us, an' get ready in case ya have ta scramble outta the way!"

The bubble encircling her now was complete, extending through the wall of the building under her - damn slimes had managed to seep in through cracks in the surface, she'd learned many, many engagements ago - and who knew what that damn magical blade could do. So was the bubble she'd set to capture the slimes - wouldn't do to let them get out by sneaking through the cobblestones and dust, would it?

Casting another Barrier to trap the slimes, if I can. :x

They try to ESCAPE!
Resistance: Solidyn wins.

The slimes on the ground tried to escape from her barrier, one sinking into the floor and the others trying the wall, but none of them could press through the barrier, leaving the three contained, at least for now. The kobolds gave affirmative grunts to the spider's orders, holding tight to her sides and looking around for threats, while the flaming glaive simply vanished, likely released by its own caster.

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

Well... as long as he was only being asked to blow shit up... That had never been too much of a problem, Kor liked to think his talents were more subtle then that... but eh, Murder was it's own talent.

As the slimes tried to escape through the wall, likely to be caught by Solidyn's barrier, Kor was left to free himself from his paranoia. They were living wads of snot... Dangerous snot, but technically just magically infused mucus as far as he was concerned. This was gonna taste terrible, and he wasn't even using his teeth.

Scowling, he made the sign with his left hand and muttered, the spell flaring along his arm before rocketing at the nearest bubbling pile of phlegm, at least this terrible meal could be filling...

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

With little else to do but sit tight, Solidyn steadied herself and kept still, so her crew could climb back on - or jump, scuttle or swing out of the way, should that blade or the slimes manage to get past them once again. The big spider was tense - she hated going up against mages. She could was obviously not a quick spider, hauling her massive self, her armor, a bloody artillery piece and nigh a dozen kobolds, and as formidable as her plate was, it did little against bloody sorcerers and their tricks. She could usually blast them apart or slice them to bits, but these gods damned slimes were liquid. Her bladed fingers did next to nothing to the bastards!

So, Solidyn stood in her bulwark of will, hoping that they'd helped those regulars enough that their line wouldn't collapse, and that whatever the freakish blade was that was harassing them wouldn't come back to wound her
crew - or her.

Kor casts, hits, kills a slime. Random rolls says slime 3! He regains 18 EP.

The other fails to escape again and take a damage.

With Solidyn concentrating on defending herself, Kor was free to cast his spell targeting one of the contained slimes, ripping the foul energy from it and reducing it to an unliving pile of goo that began to seep into the stone, sizzling as it hit Solidyn's barrier. The other two failed to escape, leaving them trapped while the other slime had yet to reappear. The rest of the battle was moving away from them now, the resistance fighters enacting a wholesale slaughter on the mindless tentacle beasts and handful of hunters that stood to oppose them while whole squads of mages overwhelmed the alien lords and slimes by sheer weight of number of the spells cast at them, killing them or driving them away.

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

Solidyn remained alert, the massive, metal-clad spider continued standing alert, giving Kor time to drain the other two slimes. Once he was through with that, the giant Arachne gave a quick look around, before trundling off towards their rendezvous. Their stop off shouldn't have cost them much time, Kor's magic reserves would be replenished, and their allies were back on their way to kill the enemies so they didn't have to. A win all around, in Solidyn's book.

She made sure to order everything reloaded, once they were some distance away, though now that they were on the ground, she also had everyone not working on rechambering a shell keeping their eyes peeled - every direction, including up.

Re: Heroes for Hire (Courage Wolf and GargantuaBlarg)

Kor wasn't all that interested in the missing slime, he had two other meals waiting, and the same trick would serve, it was like Solidyn had caught him a snack rather then herself... handy that. Again his body flared, and again he sent forth that killing energy.... hunger in all it's forms made for odd spell designs... he liked this one. Shame there wasn't anything nearby he could Drink the old fashioned way...

8 Kobold Gunners

Expending more of his blood in killing the two battered slimes while replenishing much of his magical energy, Kor would find his body growing stressed as he used his life essence rather than simply expending more magical power. The two slimes could not escape their confines before he had drained both, mostly regenerating his power while not yet dropping his defensive wind spells.

Solidyn, in the meantime, would spot no further threats during the brief interim in which Kor replenished his power. With the battle so far going well, they would be free to proceed back towards their own group's lines, the kobolds reloading all of the guns and keeping a careful eye. Nothing more dangerous than a hunter showed its face though, and though they gunned down a few stragglers the aliens left them mostly unmolested. Returning to the mercenary line who were stalwartly clearing the tentacle spawn and slimes with blade and bullet and careful expenditures of sorcery, they would find Ur-Wind handling a light cannon on the back of a wagon drawn by a pair of gruffs, remaining in the center of the group and firing into the crowds of foes to keep them from swarming. He didn't have time to say much, the din of battle too loud and the melee too thick to pierce with any ease, but as soon as he spotted Solidyn and her crew he pointed to her, then to the nearest alien tower, and then brought his hands together into two clenched fists and then quickly opened his fingers and pulled them apart. Then he pointed at her back, put his hands near his face and pointed his index fingers down over his lips, and then pointed up ahead towards the melee and raised his hands high, wiggling his fingers as they slowly descended.
