Re: Legend of Queen Opala: Origin

Shit, I messed up by not giving the guy five animals instead of three - could've gotten an additional alternate costume for one of the gals.

Oh well, I assume I'm going to play this again once Part 2 comes out.

Speaking of capturing animals, what's up with the capturing mechanics? It seems that there are certain angles or directions from which you'll fail to capture them, whereas in the previous game it was solely down to the item level. Or does it have something to do with the golden tokens?

Also, speaking of golden beetles, I'm not having any luck grinding them. They seem to spawn exceedingly rarely, and then raun away immediately. It's kind infuriating.
I haven't had the problem with animals, but I did have to upgrade my traps to catch the 5th wood squirrel. Gold beetles spawn in specific places, so if you know where one spawns, you have to enter the map, check for it, then leave and try again until it spawns.

Re: Legend of Queen Opala: Origin

when Masquerade used carousel of darkness 4 times in a row.
Fair enough. That's one battle right now, though, and depending on when/if the Health Potion Xs become available in shops, she may not have the distinction of being the only way to group heal for long. Still, even if the potions are cruft that never gets used, it's a shame to set things up like this. And if history is any guide, Gabe will stick enemies with resistances and weaknesses in areas that have a lot of variety, so if you want to exploit it in anything but a few boss fights, you'll have to switch equipment and party members between battles.

Actually killing the Beetleblades just means going after them with the most powerful attacks you can muster. They're weak to anything strong versus Ancient, which isn't particularly helpful with the weapons available in Episode I. They're strong against Earth and immune to all status defects, so don't waste your time trying to poison them or paralyze them. Just hit them hard and hope they die, I guess. FYI: I think you only get two hits, after which they automatically flee. Best to have your hardest hitters take a shot or cast a spell at them, and point the weaker characters elsewhere.

I spoilered where to find the group in Rivulet hills that can have one earlier in the thread. If anybody wants it, I can do another list of all of them. But by the end of the episode, if you've managed to kill, I think 3 of them, you can have items that tell you when they're there, double the chance that they'll be there, and that Ring the Scholar gives you makes the enemy group on the map glow, so it's pretty easy at that point.

Ah, I see, you need an upgrade for more than 3/4 of them?

And apparently I got the Farah alternate costume anyway, which seems to mean that it drops even with only 3 delivered to the animal guy.

Is it enough to just leave and reenter the screen so enemies respawn, or do you have to leave the entire region?

Just the 5th one, only thing extra I got from turning in 5 was 1k gold, so you didn't miss much then if you got the costume piece.

Re: Legend of Queen Opala: Origin

You have to leave the region. When you get the reward that tells you a Beetleblade is in the area, you can just keep exiting and entering until you get a message. Before that, unfortunately, you have to run and check the one enemy in the area that can have a Beetleblade in its group. That said, I don't think I've ever had to try more than ten times before one showed up.

With the squirrels, Gabe copies, pastes, and customizes code all over the place. Anything that appears on the map is driven by custom events, rather than being part of a class of things that all have the same rules. For example, one of the Shadow Hares only needs the snare trap, while another requires the Snare Trap, Animal Whistle, and Hunting Gloves (which I don't recall being available).

Re: Legend of Queen Opala: Origin

Okay, figured I'd post my strategy for the Golem since he is honestly the biggest challenge. I beat him at level 16, with golden weapons but bronze to steel armor. Only my hero was alive with 47 health when I won, but I imagine I would do a lot better if I fought him again with this strategy...

First, make sure to have the Earth Rings and give one to Farah and one to the Hero or the Dog. Farah is basically on healing/revive duty so you don't want her to die, and the other is one of your main attackers. Gabe should be a back up healer and be using the herb items so your attacks do max damage, though you can attack with her if everything is good.

Honestly I never used break as I remember having horrible luck with debuffs, and honestly only the Hero should be attacking regularly so its not worth the few hundred extra in exchange for probably a thousand damage from hurricane. The dog should be casting hurricane every turn while the Hero uses his highest special attack. Farah if not healing should be tossing mp potions at whoever has the lowest of your damage dealers, and if she's healing Gabe should be doing that.

When you get group hit, the hero can heal and so should Gabe. The dog should still be attacking. Honestly thanks to the rings, only 2-3 of your characters should be in danger and thanks to the defense herb the dog/hero with the ring should be fine not being healed that turn.

This should work without needing to grind for the best stuff and can probably be done as soon as the dog gets Hurricane. Though a few extra levels would never hurt. Oh and use all your intelligence and mp seeds on the dog so he can cast as good as possible.

What are dimensional shards and how do you find them?

Use the crystal to teleport to the teleport room, then go north and talk to the woman. It should tell you what to do after you talk to her.

So there's really no legendary monster for the Venom Hornet (green bee monsters)?

You have to change them in your camp. Just changes your battle appearance.

Yeah, you have to go into battle strategy for some reason, but it's there.

Re: Legend of Queen Opala: Origin

RPG Maker is pretty dynamic in terms of how it handles its data. Assuming Gabe doesn't dork anything up, and you don't encounter any bugs or make decisions in Episode I that will wreck things later, say by setting variables that lock you out of content and those variables can't be reset in a New Game+, you should be able to import. You just have to copy the game saves into the Episode II folder.

I imagine Gabe will tell us if anything is done during development that breaks old saves. Every beta release mentioned that you could import as long as you hadn't done x, y, or z that would conflict with a bug fix.

For decisions, say e.g. the prizes for that Animal Hunter quest were reversed, and the bolt of cloth for Farah was the bonus prize. If you made the mistake of turning in less than 5 squirrels, that bolt would be lost to you forever without restarting the game entirely, since side quests don't reset in New Game+. I don't think anything like that has been done in the final release of Episode I, but it did happen a time or two in betas.

Re: Legend of Queen Opala: Origin

sorry, I'm completely lost  Help please!! a walkthrough would be great :)

what's the difference between the renegade path and the other path? how many are there? from the comments so far it looks like renegade path is required for the extra scenes with Laquadia in the beginning of the game.

what's the strategy for getting gold? if I do the Renegade path than buy the quest log that's all the gold I start out with.

I finished the Laquadia's fan side quest, but I'm still not able to go in the heavenly fate and get passed the bouncer?

any help is much apreciated

The save crystals? I've visited the ones in Colussia and Port Ronod and don't see an option to teleport to the Crystal Sanctum. Could you be more specific on how to find the Crystal Sanctum?

You get an crystal from the quiz lad, which lets you teleport there
