Yeah, it probably wouldn't be too happy since without the red lens, it's iris would be a lovely mix of pink and sky blue.

That's probably another source of the red color. Think about how raw and irritated that eye would be.

I still hold firm the belief that this series is a grim prediction of the world trade center...

What keeps me here is the amusing banter and debates.
For example, if one was to clone themselves, would having sex with said clone be gay, or simply masturbation...? If you chose to kill said clone, would it be murder, or suicide?
