I noticed with Rapidshare, files under 30-40 megs will download at full speed. But it seems any file over 30-40 megs will download at around 50-100 KB/s, and the download will automatically pause itself every other five seconds until it's done.
My suggestion would be to use Mediafire, Oron, and/or Deposit Files.
Mediafire will delete files a lot earlier than most file lockers. But it's very good for quick sharing. It allows multiple downloads at once, normally gives you a very good download rate (somewhere between 500KB-2MB, in my experience) and may max out your download speed on rare occasions.
Deposit Files has a 'waiting period' between file downloads based on the file's size. Something that's 10 megs will normally set you back about 10-15 minutes before you can download something else. Larger files (over 30 megs) can be around 45+ minutes. The download speeds aren't very high, either, but over all it seems to work all right for most people.
Oron also has a 'waiting period' between file downloads. But unlike DF, the wait period is always 15 minutes, no matter the file's size. The download speeds vary between 50-200 KB/s in my experience. Not so great, but it also works fine for most people. The one thing to consider about Oron, though, is if the file is very large, free users may not be able to download it. I think limits free users to around 400 megs. I could be wrong.
We don't really have many options anymore. Mediafire has always been my favourite file locker. But I wish files stayed on their servers for a lot longer than they do.
