Just a heads up. I plan on applying my decensor work on top of your translation. This way you don't have to worry about trying to use my latest decensor as a base. I've made quite extensive notes on what I need to adjust, so it doesn't take me that long to do.
Thanks, that is appreciated. I'm recently working on basis of your first released uncensor version, but I saw that you've been improving it quite a lot until now. Placing all the translated vector graphics in the correct locations is a real pain and something I wouldn't want to do twice. However, I'm only working on the main file right now (as this is where the majority of the text is). Translation for all sex scenes is sure to follow, but first things first :). This means that for the moment, using your newest version would be as simple as copying the files that you provide. Only the main file would need manual adjustments with your improvements.

@Icevail
Thank you for sending me your translated texts. They will be very helpful for the final result.

I should mention that the first uncensor I did has a shape deleted that shouldn't be in most of the sub SWFs. I fixed that error in the last couple versions.

Is the shape missing in the main file, too? Can it be reinserted?

The shape is not in the main file so no worries there. It's the internal semenal fluid back splash transparency. I wouldn't have noticed it was gone if I hadn't checked my work against the stock files so mainy times.

I tried my hand at translating the last one ,Miyumi swordsman (i find Miyui too weird of a name). Haven't checked the full thread beforehand, so I thought no one was working on it lol.
Anyway, sent you swf with translated dialogues(haven't looked at sub files yet) ,not much else(only translated some UI hints to be able to play this). Took me a day, damn.

Thanks, I'll go through it soon. I'm finishing up the vector files (especially shape 909 gave me some trouble), but it's almost done. Now they just need proper centering on the UI, and the texts need some final refinements, and it should be finished :)

Hey, just wanted to give a quick update: So first of all, sorry for the delay. It looks like I underestimated the rest amount of work to be done. Maybe my quality standards are a little bit too high. Anyways, work is progressing well. Everything shade/button/sprite related is pretty much done, I'm just going over the texts and replaying the scenes to see which text blocks come after each other so that I can better transition/relate them.

@Delexicus
Which uncensor files of yours would you recommend for the translated version? For the moment, the sub files (not the main file) could be easily replaced with your versions.

I can relate with your desire for perfectionism. The fact that I'm having trouble with my decensor work is really bothering me.

For a base translation release I would recommend using the mosaic removed only version. That version has no edits done to the main .SWF and only light editing of the sub files. I plan on releasing other versions later that have better delineated editing work done. E.G. a version that has all uncensoring done, and a version that has all the eye edits done.

If you would like, you could send me your raw work files after you have made your initial translation release. That way I could help with applying your translation work to the JSK's updated versions of Miyui. If you are not comfortable sharing your raw work, that's fine too. I know how personal it can feel to share something you've put so much effort into.

Hey and thanks, I will use the basic uncensoring version then.

I've no problem with sharing my work, however it's not that easy. While there are some raw work files that could be shared, the main issue is to align all buttons and images correctly, often times by editing the transform values. I initially tried to write down all changes that need to be done that way, but I quickly stopped it because it was too much work. I often found out the correct align values by simple trial and error.

Long story short, if JSK decides to release an updated version of Miyui, I probably would have to create a complete manual on what things you have to change which could be quite some work. Unfortunately JSK does make translating quite hard (he probably doesn't care a lot about proper resource and localization management).

Or that he/they is/are not aware that we english majors do this without his/their knowledge and doesn't prepare for it accordingly.

And on the side note, I'll be returning home tomorrow, and continue with Irene after getting rid of the jet lag.

For awhile I was reading JSK's DLsite blog comments and on more than one occasion someone offered to translate his games into English. JSK flat out ignored them. On a separate occasion I remember someone asking in Japanese why he didn't want to translate his games into English. His response was along the lines of just not being well versed or comfortable with the language. I'll have to dig up those posts later.

I understand that he isn't a fan of people translating his games and uploading the finished result. After all, that means less sales for him (why would an English-speaker buy the japanese version and then download the english version from a free link?). However that wouldn't be an issue if a) he sold an english version initially or b) he uploads and sells a fan-translated version (with the creators consent? don't know, kind of a gray zone).

I've started digging through JSK's Blog responses for some insights into his thought process, mainly regarding translations and related subjects. I've found one so far about the use of a Patreon style system. A machine translation makes it sound like he would be nervous to try new things. Please correct me if there is more nuance than that.

Some good news, Now that I know how to make The JSK SWFs HEX editor friendly, I can read and do compare and replace functions much easier. It should even help with porting the translations on top of my edits.

Looks like JSK is not too far away from releasing his next game. I think I have to speed up my translation work then :eek:.

@Delexicus
I'm curious about what you're up to with that hex editor stuff. I think JSK is about to release an update to Miyui, but seeing that the current main file has sooo much work in it already, I'm really hesitating...

My idea with the hex editor is to transplant your translation work in a big old hex block, or a few hex blocks, from the translated Miyui.swf to the untranslated updated Miyui.swf. This can be done after you decompress both your translated miyui.swf and the new untranslated miyui.swf in the command prompt. The decompress command code is "ffdec.bat -decompress miyui.swf miyui_decompressed.swf" This way the internal hex viewer of JPEXS will line up with a normal hex editor. JPEXS has a nice feature that will point out exactly where in the hex view you are looking when you select a shape, sprite, text field, or whatever. With the location information you can find the start and end of your translation work. Make note of the hex offsets to the left of the raw hex field for the start and end of your work, and then do the same procedure with the new untranslated miyui.swf to find out where your translation work will slot in. From there you will use a normal Hex editor to do the transplant operation. I've used the HxD editor with my bulk color edits and it's a very nice hex editor if you needed a suggestion. With HxD, locate the hex block in the untranslated work and replace it with your translated hex block. Save your work and that should be it. Since JSK keeps most of his scripting at the end of the swf file, you will not likely undo the update work that JSK did. I could foresee needing to do a few seperate transplants to not muck up what JSK updated, but it is still waaaay less work than a complete reapplication of your translation.

EDIT 1:

HxD also has a compare feature so you could compare both untranslated versions. This way you could see just what things to avoid when you do your transplant. And also maybe use the compare feature to actually do your transplant. As they say, the more options the better.
