This forum exists to give western developers a place to host their projects, as well as hosting/providing advertising for Japanese h-content. Whether the egg or chicken came first is wholly irrelevant, though I will say if you aren't inclined towards providing the "adult" part of "adult content", these forums probably aren't the best place to ask for acknowledgement. Nothing against you, but it's an h-content forum first, a place for developers of all walks to get noticed second.
I don't make games, but I've interacted with a number of developers in the community (and even supported a few) and have come away with some insight. A portion have their own head up their own ass, while others are humble and thankful, albeit a bit too ambitious for their own good. There are also ones who have no reservations about being honest in terms of personality and don't sugarcoat their language. In terms of what they do for finances, it generally varies. Most go with patreon as a way to make a quick buck off a project or "jump-start" one. Others will work on it part-time as a side thing and either keep the real-life stuff to a minimum (because nobody cares, etc), or take a moment to briefly explain their situation and admit the project isn't their top priority. There are those who run a crowdfunding campaign, too (although dropping off as of late, apparently Kickstarter isn't as lucrative as Patreon).
I've noticed a ton of Patreon devs will take the most lucrative option on the platform and, whether true or not, will have a ton of coinciding bits of "bad news" when development either slows, or drops off completely. Unfortunately, there are still to many gullible people on the internet without the ability to think too critically about these things. ULMF has a fair number of them, as do other places. Heck, not to bash the dude, but Fenoxo is mostly being kept afloat by the surplus of furries who want horse-cocks and 50 child pregnancy content. The porn community is, for the most part, a really lucrative community to exploit, and they're all too eager to fall for the same shit.
Now, I'm not saying any of this to decry the community or developers in general, because as an aspiring novelist, I know the work and personal frustrations associated with undertaking something of that size. Game development, from a modding perspective, is a cunt of a time. I tried my hand at doing personal flavor content for a text-based game on here and failed utterly because coding at the basic level isn't anything like riding a bike. I can see why certain developers stick to their "tried and tested" engines. It's more akin to taking a trade. If you've spent your time learning how to be a carpenter and are skilled in that trade, then being told to do the same work as an engineer or plumber will be asking the impossible.
Anyways, I hope that gives you some helpful insight into things. You've said you've only been working a year on your project, which, in terms of other developers here, is barely a drop in the bucket. Most will look at the current state of their project and notice where they could improve things, or decide to re-work the entire thing, therein tossing x years of work out the window in an attempt to "make it better." Ambition and lack of perspective is a common theme in the western developer community. I've seen it, have argued with personalities who refuse to admit it, and come away frustrated and disillusioned with the community as a whole. People say I'm "toxic" and "difficult", which, from experience, are just other ways of saying either "I am upset that you're saying something I disagree with but can't rebut" or, "You're right, but because someone's feelings are going to get hurt, I must champion the cause and decry you as a person in the hopes that people will overlook your point and instead focus on attacking your character as an argument." Basically, people who praise you for being "original" or because you're even working on something are part of this entitled, snowflake culture of delusion where a developer is infallible, and any criticism cannot be considered legitimate unless you've "played the game" or "are a developer yourself."
