(I saw what you did there.)
Ashraani knew she was being watched, but she couldn't tell from where. She'd been traveling through the long ruined docks, searching for something worth killing, for almost three hours now, and ever since she'd arrived, she had felt eyes on her back. She hadn't seen another living thing in almost two days, the deserted town of Artmirst living up to its title. The place was supposedly filled with demons, but so far she hadn't found a single one, only a talking plant and some giant, white hairy spiders who'd simply refused to shut up. It had taken her almost two hours to be rid of the things, though she hadn't gotten quite annoyed enough to gun them down.
The dock before her was badly rotted and almost falling apart, and she doubted that it would support her weight. The tavern across from it was in just as poor condition, and the street she'd slid across to reach this point was rough and covered in potholes. The road ran North-East and North-West from her current position, and if something was tracking her it would have to come from one of those directions. The area before her was wide open, a paved plaza almost seventy feet in diameter, so she'd probably see whatever it was before it could reach her. Still, she could just be imagining things, and there was much of Artmirst which she hadn't yet seen, particularly the factory district, which supposedly held the site of the portal before it had closed.
