Desert Paradise
(Courtesan Card Game)

In the multicultural Deunic port city of Nenuphar, there exists a concept called Ardhia, or ‘earthly paradise’. As the name implies, it isn’t something one has to reach the afterlife to seek, but rather, on the mortal plane. It’s a place where escapism reaches its highest points for many, in the comfort of a woman willing to indulge a given guest in all he might need. An official or warrior tiring from the day’s duties would visit only the city’s most high-class brothels to find ‘Ardhia’.

This place of earthly paradise isn’t limited to one spot on the map... but if one were to ask the locals of Nenuphar, it would most likely be found within the walls of the esteemed Regallah Palace. Much more than just a brothel, it offers comfort to only those with the proper amount of coin, which is to say, no small amount. Commoners are allowed entry, but those who do have likely saved up a lifetime of cash in order for one night of absolute bliss. Visitors from all over the world of Arkeia have sought the Regallah Palace in order to get but a taste of its earthly delights.

But more often than not, those who manage to retain a steady flow of cash--officials, nobles, knights and the like--are able to visit the palace with any degree of regularity. The girls working here are only the most beautiful, hailing from Ayon to Talea to Grisalesca. So elite are these courtesans that tryouts are only held once every two years, accepting only the most elegant, the most lively, and of course, the kinky ones who are all too willing to cater to a customer’s fetishes.

Comfort women from all across Arkeia, both experienced and new, will visit to try their hand at acceptance into the elite of the Regallah Palace. They say that of every 100 women to apply, only two or three make the cut. And of course, the chosen way to determine their suitability for the job is by how much coin they earn in a single night.

BASIC RULES:
Each player has their character (picture and brief history), along with their chosen Build, and a starting hand of 7 cards. The first player is determined randomly. Player order goes clockwise.

During your turn, you may take 1 Action of the following:

1.) Play a card as an Advertiser
Cards that are played as Advertisers are placed in an Advertiser Area located BELOW your character card. Advertisers do nothing other than add to the attributes of your courtesan of their color. Furthermore, when you play a card as an Advertiser, you must draw a card.

2.) Play a card as a Guest
Cards that are played as Guests are placed in a Guest Area ABOVE your character card.
Guests are more difficult to play in that you require a certain amount of attributes in order to play them; for example, if a red Merchant has a Requirement of 4, then you need 4 or more in your red Attribute to play him as a Guest. But when you do, they give you a positive effect, do not require you to draw additional cards, and also pay you at the end of the round by the amount specified. Because a Merchant’s payout value is 4, he will give you 4 points at the end of the round if he is still in your Guest Area. When playing a Guest, be sure to name the targets of their abilities.

3.) Introduce
Discard two cards from your hand, then draw two from the Deck.

4.) Exchange
Choose one of your Advertisers to return to your hand and exchange it with another card in your hand.

5.) Search
Draw one card from the deck. Generally, it is better to take an Advertisement action, but there are rare cases when increasing the number of cards in your hand is beneficial.

Rounds end when a player has no cards left in hand by the end of their turn. Players get -2 points for every card remaining in their hand; these represent customers who were not able to get in due to time constraints and have left disappointed. Players also get +1 point for every coin their Guests pay out; these represent satisfied customers who have paid good money. The winner is determined by the most points at the end of a round (for PbP purposes, smut is also written based on the guests one retains at the end of a round).

CHARACTER BUILDS:
These builds have different Attribute scores and abilities that either complement or counteract them. Red is for Elegance, Blue is for Liveliness, and Green is for Kinkiness.
ELEGANCE represents how classy a courtesan is. LIVELINESS denotes her energy level and ability to handle strenuous activity, and KINKINESS determines her capability to cater to specific fetishes of certain clientele.

1.) “Gorgeous” build
Elegance: 5
Liveliness: 5
Kinkiness: 5
Start each round with 2 extra cards.
These girls are experts at every field. But because of these skills, or perhaps just their beauty on the surface, they receive more potential admirers in line--though not all are able to get in...

2.) “Versatile” build
Elegance: 3
Liveliness: 3
Kinkiness: 3
ONCE per round during your turn, you may add 3 to one Attribute. This lasts until the end of the round.
A Versatile girl is a chameleon, able to satisfy various kinds of clients as needed, even if she does not have a long-standing specialty.

3.) “Popular” build
Elegance: 2
Liveliness: 2
Kinkiness: 2
Once per turn, you may take an extra Advertisement action in addition to your chosen action.
Popular girls can easily rack up Advertisers, meaning that they know a friend of a friend of a friend, all of which are willing to say very good things about them.

4.) “Alluring” build
Elegance: 3
Liveliness: 5
Kinkiness: 1
When you play a blue guest, after applying its effects, you may play an extra blue guest if they fulfill the requirements (use maximum twice per turn).
Alluring girls have high scores in Liveliness, meaning they have the energy level to keep multiple guests ‘entertained’ at one time--and know just how to get those groups over.

5.) “Convincing” build
Elegance: 5
Liveliness: 1
Kinkiness: 3
When you play a red guest, you may apply its effect twice (use maximum once per turn).
Convincing girls, elegant as they are, can convince one client to do a bit of extra work for them, which can go a long way.

6.) “Fetish” build
Elegance: 1
Liveliness: 3
Kinkiness: 5
When you draw a card after taking an Advertisement action, draw two extra cards. Then put two cards from your hand at the bottom of your draw deck.
These kinky girls know which potential customers to attract and which to send away based on what they are looking for. If there is a man she wants, she can figure out how to get him at some point.

In the desert nation of Deun, Water Mages are an invaluable resource, and as such hold high political rank.

King (1 in deck)
Requirement: 10 of any color
Payoff: 10
Advertisement: +1 to all
When you add this card as a Guest, play all cards in your hand as Guests regardless of requirement.
If one is so exceptionally skilled, they may attract a visit from a King. A good word in by a King never hurts, but actually having him as a guest can get the attention of an entire city--or nation.

This game will run up to 4 players. Admission is based on GM discretion; players must be willing to respond at least once a day, listing the contents of their Builds, Guest and Advertiser areas with every post, and be able to write smut at the end of the round. This is only a test run. As a GM, I will PM you your opening hands as well as the cards you receive.

For those unfamiliar with DLaby lore, see this thread http://www.ulmf.org/bbs/showpost.php?p=520280&postcount=2 for information about the various nations of the world--your girl can come from anywhere besides Cerynsia and Vernia.

Now reviewing character sheet submissions; open applications!

I am the one who knocks.
Kuara

“Gorgeous” build
Elegance: 5
Liveliness: 5
Kinkiness: 5
Start each round with 2 extra cards.

Character Pic!
http://www.ulmf.org/bbs/album.php?albumid=1057&pictureid=14669

Born the daughter of a wealthy merchant, Kuara was raised essentially to be sold. Her father, while not a vile man compared to many, was far from progressive when it came to his daughter's upbringing, raising her in essence to upsell her as a wife or concubine to improve his social standing. She was taught all manner of things to make her more appealing, from courtly manners to dance to art, even fencing, though she never excelled at the last. Unfortunately, her father's scheming for power and station would ultimately come back to bite him long before he could find her a proper suitor.

A scheme with a water mage to subvert an existing monopoly was discovered, and her father and the mage he had made a deal with were both put to the sword. Their home was sacked, their name disgraced, and Kuara was sold into slavery. All willfulness had long since been broken out of her, however, and resignation and her demure mannerisms ultimately saw her sold to a city brothel. It meant little to her in the long run, and after only a short while Kuara had acclimated to the notion that she would be sold to many men instead of one. A local girl of storied beauty - thanks in no small part to her father's efforts to make her appealing among the upper classes by way of rumors - Kuara is becoming an increasingly popular attraction at a lesser brothel that is looking to upsell her in the height of her popularity.

Yay, alt builds.
"Ruby"

"Popular" Build

Elegance 2
Liveliness 2
Kinkiness 2
Once per turn, you may take an extra Advertisement action in addition to your chosen action.

Ruby was taken from her family at an early age in Honrai and trained in decidedly non-sexual arts at the school of the Five Elemental Harmonies. She broke away from their hold over her and journeyed to Deun, to work as a mercenary for hire. Things didn't go as planned for her, and one night she was overpowered and kidnapped. Brought before a mysterious benefactor who runs a large brothel, she pitted her rebellious spirit against his mind-dominating powers. As part of her 'training' she has been entered into the brothel as its newest attraction. She resents her owner, but at the same time can't deny that his powers are having an effect on her, and with enough of his training, she might be more popular than even she could believe.

Re: Desert Paradise (Courtesan Card Game)

I expect more harems in Bakan's thread for this. I'm far from a full set.
Talula

“Versatile” build
Elegance: 3
Liveliness: 3
Kinkiness: 3
At the beginning of your turn, you may add 2 to one Attribute until end of turn.

Talula is known throughout the world by different titles depending on where you look. Though because of her versatile nature, the world had issues with handing out bounties for a thief, a murderer, a blackmailer, and in one particular area, an arsonist. She is a woman without fear or shame, and despite her rampant criminal activity, seems cheery and someone delightful to be around. Her appearance is always a ruse wherever she goes. And officials only know to look for a "Chameleon" that can be almost literally anybody. Her most recent escapades has one kingdom spouting that Talula is a male disguising as a female, though only because one customer who paid very well wished to have his dick sucked by a cute man.

With this latest opportunity, she sees a chance to get herself into the pocket of countless influential individuals. With her power of manipulation and trickery, she might even steal the heart of a king.

Talish

6.) “Fetish” build
Elegance: 1
Liveliness: 3
Kinkiness: 5

Talish is the daughter of a Xali immigrant to Nenuphar who grew up poor but ambitious. There was coin to be earned here, lives of luxury to lead... But how to acquire it? The answer became obvious to her soon after she came of age; a prostitute had the potential to earn far more in a night than your average commoner could make at honest work, and have much more fun doing it too! It helped that even in a place like this she could pass for exotic, which might net her even better prices, especially if she were good enough to get into one of the high-class establishments.

She's working on the "class" part. It'll come eventually, right? In the meantime no request is too strange, no act beneath her. She'll do anything to make her way to the top of the ladder and live the comfortable life she deserves!

Re: Desert Paradise (Courtesan Card Game)

Excellent, now we can start. Some minor changes:
-I changed Versatile back to add 3 to one Attribute instead of 2; turns out I was playing it wrong in the original game. Versatile girls can add 3 to one Attribute, but that lasts for the WHOLE ROUND, not just until end of turn, which is far more balanced.
-Since we are only playing one round, everyone starts with a hand of 7 cards.
Opening hands will be PM'd to the players now.

The turn order is:
1.) Tiff
2.) MAF
3.) Blue
4.) Tass

Please include the areas in your posts. Example:
(Gorgeous)
I play a Red Merchant in my Guest area, targeting _______ with its ability and causing them to draw two cards.

Guest area:
Red Merchant

Advertiser area:
Nothing

Something something I wasn't sure if I could talk here and ruin the beauty of being able to back track and read actions easily. I spoke with Tass during his turn and told him to slam dunk blue in a temporary alliance to stop the OP merc shenanigans. In return, we leave each other alone.

Mercenary shenannigans?

I start at 2/2/2, whereas Tass starts at 5/5/5.

Which of us did you think is OP again?

I'm happy to not be aggro, but if there's an alliance out to screw me, I'll happily play the spite game. ;)

I don't intend that to necessarily be a permanent alliance either, mind you. I mostly aim to try to leave people alone. Mostly.

Re: Desert Paradise (Courtesan Card Game)

It's the mercenary card. It forces all other players to look at each other and wonder who will decide to waste a turn bouncing the shield that he gives. Knowing my friends at this internet table, nobody would have done anything. So, I decided to seek aid on the matter so nobody really loses anything for busting such an annoying and spammable card.

It was cute, but I ain't having it.

So my desire to protect myself was something you didn't like.

*shrug*

So how long is this alliance going on? Because as long as you two are in an alliance, it forces Tiff and myself into a counter alliance, and I find a tag-team version of this to be silly.

Re: Desert Paradise (Courtesan Card Game)

Yep, sorry I forgot to mention. All political offers and the like must be made on-board in the interest of fairness, so that the other person has a chance to make a counteroffer. I would prefer people not make permanent alliances, it's not how things tend to work in the table game either. Usually decisions like that are made based on who has the most this or that, or who has the fewest cards in hand, etc.

The board:

Talish (Tiff)
Fetish
Stats: 1/3/5
7 cards in hand
Coin: 0

Talula (MAF)
Versatile
Stats: 3/3/3

Ruby (Blue)

Kuara (Tass)

Re: Desert Paradise (Courtesan Card Game)

Essentially, I don't plan to ally with anyone in the long term, at least when it comes to targeting other players. At this point I'd like to make a table wide offer of truce: I mostly just want to be left alone. I start off with the fattest hand, and the highest base stats that let me play whoever. I have options with which to screw people over. That said, I'll merrily play guys who just want a quick hump or advertisers to raise said stats so long as I'm left alone. Every turn in which you leave me alone is another turn that I'm not playing another gangster on you, or a thief, or something else, since I will always go last. I suppose you could all pick on me at once, but that would hardly seem fair and I could at least screw over whoever does me the worst in turn.

Going after Blue's mercenary card was a pragmatic choice in this aim that didn't actually cause that much harm, since it's a low value guest that makes it largely pointless for other people to target you until someone bites the bullet and gets rid of it. Rather than one in three, I become one in two. Even with that, Blue will naturally build fastest, RJ has the versatile option to get those emergency plays out, and Tiff will be able to pick each play much better than I can. I start out strong in stats but have a purely linear growth rate. Predictably. Blue will grow exponentially almost regardless of what gets played against him simply because 2 actions per turn, and Tiff and RJ can grow at a somewhat more reliable rate. Essentially, I am going to snapping turtle and all of you fast whippersnappers should leave me alone unless you want to feel the beak that can destroy solid steel.

I too want to be left alone. If someone is in the lead by a major way, don't get salty over an attack.

I will be coming into my own eventually, and at that point, I'll remember who attacked me and who didn't.
