I was curious as to whether or not anyone here uses or has ever used any of the online dating sites like Ok Cupid, eHarmony, etc?

Re: Internet Dating

On another site just recently someone posted a personality test from one. I took it just for the lulz, but now have been getting emails with results (based only off location cause I didn't fill anything else in on the profile). I skimmed the emails just to see what was in them, and it doesn't give me much confidence in that site

I haven't used one, and I don't really need to I think, but my Father met my stepmother online, in some chatroom... So I know it works sometimes...

Hmmm, that reminds me. My parents actually met through a dating service too (and have been married without much trouble for 21 years), so it can indeed work. I think it's more an issue of which service you use.

Re: Internet Dating

Well, I am currently dabbling in Ok Cupid. Im too cheap to mess with getting a real subscription or whatever for EHarmony. I don't think I use any other ones off the top of my head though.

Re: Internet Dating

Should be an option for those who won't use one, but don't think it's entirely stupid.

I know I'll personally never use internet dating, not my thing, and most of the time I've seen it not work out to well. However, I have heard of it working out, and its a convenient way of meeting new people.

Re: Internet Dating

While I have considered it a few times when I thought I didn't have much hope of finding someone to be with, I figured it's best if I go out and find somebody myself.

Just remember, you get what you pay for.

What happened Mr. Chairman?!?! You dirty capitalist!!!
Well I'm just saying OkCupid is like the lowest common denominator out there. Utterly random people are on there instead of dedicated people who'd pay.

Lest I remind you of some of the humorous one's I got in the spam email :p

Re: Internet Dating

Just reading the title, I thought this was a thing where ulmf members would go out and meet each other. I personally was excited about date raping Darkfire, or even being taken into Sinful's big, strong arms under a moonlit night.

Re: Internet Dating

I've poked at an Australian free site a few times, it's fairly unimpressive. My experiences have basically consisted of almost all the profile looking basically the same, and tired girls who get so many guys who want to talk to them that you really need to stand out a lot for them to want to even talk to you, and even then you need to carefully balance between being interesting enough to continue to stand out while at the same time not being too forward/aggressive.

All in all, it's easier to find people in person, if you go to the right places.

Re: Internet Dating

I have tried OKCupid and Chemistry.com. Frankly I couldn't recommended Chemistry on any level as the majority of matches that you get are people that signed up for the free trial then dropped it. Went for three months straight with the max of five or ten matches a day, after upping it to the max sane radius which I think was like..250 miles. At the end of it all had three to four replies and all were non-interest. So do the math at say five matches a day for three months and it boiling down to three to four replies?

Okcupid is fun only on a social level. Interesting little side quizzes and whatnot but overall its more of a popularity contest. With most internet sites like that the male to female ratio is slanted towards female. With a good chunk of the females posing soft-core porn pictures. Think went three or four months and said hello to a couple that were nearby and looked half way sane. One was only interested in the 'cute car' that I drove while the other thought I was some rapist stalker type so yeah, uplifting lol. Pretty much trudge on and gradually lost interest.

A. It's actually very logical and reasonable, that's assuming that people don't lie.
B. People do lie...

Re: Internet Dating

I know of internet dating success stories. Same as I know about success stories that come from those dating get-togethers where you sit at a table for 5 minutes and try to form an opinion of someone.

They happen, but they're few and far between. With the internet, you've got to talk to a person for a while to really get a good idea of whether you'd like them in person. And "a while" on the internet is usually longer than the expectations you may have when speaking to someone you met on a 'dating site.' That's my theory on why they don't work out very much.

I voted no on this because you shouldn't limit yourself to internet dating. It's always better to try and meet someone when going out and doing activities you enjoy.

Re: Internet Dating

Sometimes I question the commercials that some dating sites put on. I mean they say they show actual couples, but why do I not believe them?
