And I have no idea how to gather followers, what is proper etiquette, etc..

Do you just simply follow other tumblrs that you find interesting, comment, etc.. and hope that others will be interested and click on your name?

I've never used tumblr before, for anything at all, so any advice/help is appreciated. I turned off advertising because.. well FSA is porn and I didn't think tumblr would appreciate that. xD

There is porn on tumblr, so as long as it's marked nsfw, it's fine (I think).

I made tumblr some time ago and pretty much forgot about it. Just... meh.
With followers, I guess you can sum it up like for every other site. Make content, if people like it, they will follow.

Use it for sharing stuff related to [insert topic here], link it somewhere so it's visible and that's all.

Etiquette? I don't know... just be a normal, rational person?

Oh Boy..

First off, I'd like to point out how hilarious it is to me that you were a little bit nervous with putting porn on Tumblr. Tumblr is pretty much the go to social media site if you're looking for porn ;D As Yoshiki said, jsut make sure to mark things as NSFW.

Whenever you post something, list as many relevant tags as you can think of. People don't just follow people, they can also follow a certain tag. My tumblr, for instance, follows #CowboyBebop. So every time Someone posts something with that tag it shows up in my feed. If i find someone who's posting content I enjoy when it shows up, I will follow them.

As far as etiquette goes, I assume you are talking about reposting what other people create and things of that nature. If you reblog someone's post, it is absolutely okay. When you reblog it, people will see who you reblogged it from, so you aren't taking credit for someone else's work. I can guarantee people will do the same with things that you post. So, if you post something related to your game, maybe the latest DL link, make sure to also include a link to your Patreon or your Tumblr page so that people can easily navigate to the source of content. Outside of that.. Just don't be a fucklestick and you'll be fine.

Gathering followers is.. a little different. I would think that you don't want to gather any old followers, instead you want to gather followers who would be interested in your game. If this is the case, I would post things and reblog things relating to your game. Its been a couple years since the last time i tried FSA, but from what I remember, I would post things that you can tag with #fantasy or #pregnancy or #corruption and things of that nature. (All with the nsfw tag of course)

Some really popular content creators got popular by doing this. Someone who posts a lot of hentai will, a few times a week, say "hey, want to buy some erotic cosploy photosets?" Theres plenty of artists that will do much the same and then offer their talents on commission. Don't hesitate to post updates and releases with your game, but posting other things in between will help to gain more followers who might be interested in it.

Reblog, comment, follow blogs similar to yours, and make sure you post and update often. Look at some successful blogs with the same content like yours and what hashtags they are using to promote their content.

Okay. I'll explore a bit and see what I can do. It's rather time consuming though, especially on pages with lots of graphics going on. I have been considering that maybe I should spend more time on the game and worrying less about funds and getting the name out there. In time it will speak for itself anyway. :)

Wait, I think the tumblr hashtags don't work like the hashtags in instagram or twitter. Basically these hashtags are only visible in your blog, while in twitter if you use some hashtag, people that are not following you may see your post.

Basically you have to know someone big on Tumblr to reblog your content at the beginning so you can gain a bunch of followers, otherwise you are posting content that only you see.

I have seen people growing their following by linking their tumblr posts when posting on reddit or rule34.

Sounds like Tumblr is just a waste of time then.

Do you want to do it, or do you just want it for the exposure? If its the latter, its more effort than its worth, I do it cause I like sharing art progress and etc.

Re: So I made a tumblr... Help? :D

A lot of artists use tumblr for sharing stuff and sharing news about their work, and it can be a good way to keep contact with other artists.

Basically, like, reblog or comment on stuff you like, ask (non-obnoxious) questions for people with open asks, and in general just do what you feel like.

However, exposure is never a guarantee, and building up followers take some time.

The time I did spend on Tumblr was just spent reposting the same stuff I was doing on my Patreon. It just seems like I could use that time to focus more on Patreon or other, easier venues and get the same, if not more, exposure.
