Okay, so here's how I think... the good guys (us) are fighting against TEH EBIL RAEPIST tentacled aliens, using yes, giant mecha. Problem is, while the mechanical mecha are supremely effective against the aliens, they're also very expensive to make and maintain, and on the occasions when the aliens are able to take down one of these mecha, the process of peeling the pilot out of the machine is extremely painful for all involved.

So, our heroine's side developed biological constructs (call 'em bioroids) to do most of the grunt-work. These are generally as humanoid as the mecha are, although some variation exists; they tend to assume the visual attributes of their pilots, but strong mental focus can change this. The process of boarding and interfacing with a bioroid is, shall we say, invasive; feedback is detailed and instant, but the most extreme is filtered out - getting a leg blown off, for example, won't result in our pilot losing a leg.

Because of the aforementioned "invasive" interfaces, bioroid pilots are almost exclusively female. Not coincidentally, those who prefer to stay in the bioroid squads tend to also look forward to close combat with the aliens...

Yes, this is meant to give opportunities for consentacles.

Okay after having thought it over and collecting tallies, the main setting and theme will be an alternate earth, where the world is like Fuedal Japan (think Sakura Wars), that is being recently invaded tentacled raepists from outer space and we had to build giant steampowered robots to stop them. With a Hentai Factor of 8.
