Re: ULMF?

It's literally under the title at the top left of the page. The Unofficial LineMarvel Forum. It came from the original forums having been started to talk about the works of an h-game maker named LineMarvel.

I too feel old, but tis better to have the question asked and answered than people wondering and not knowing

We certainly have come a long way since then. What was it now, 9 years?

Re: ULMF?

So while I've only been under this username here for roughly two years, I've actually been on ULMF for much, much longer as a lurker, and yeah, this makes me feel old too, lol.

But for those who don't know LineMarvel, here's a brief summary.

Basically, LineMarvel was a western game dev that made some of the first western hentai games over 10 years ago;

Jungle Girl, and
Demon Girl.

Both games have unfortunately been hacked for few years now though, and have links on them going to adware sites; don't go to the "Demon Girl 2" or "check my site" links on the games, etc.

I'm not entirely sure why/how the forum got founded, but I do know that he had a large collection of hentai he did outside of it, and had a site specifically for it; someone who's been here a REALLY long time can maybe clarify, but I'm going to assume he made a forum on his website due to his exploding popularity from both games so he could talk to his fans, and then when he vanished from the internet without a trace, people likely ported the forum to it's own website as a small community had formed here and such.

There was even a revival attempt to remake Jungle Girl with totally new art and gameplay, and I remember seeing the game progress more and more, until suddenly, just like LM, almost everyone involved in it vanished from the forum out of nowhere, and that was years and years ago.

I have a silly but maybe interesting (to some) idea.
Did any of you game designers thought about making a game about LineMarvel?

Game in which you play as a LineMarvel itself creating his signature jungle/demon girl games. Everyday human life(maybe Aika or somone who is registered here and know him personaly could provide some info about his lifestyle/habbits and such) Just to be at least a little accurate with it. Beside that it could have some made up hentai implements(ideas), like LineMarvel having an fling romance with his neighbour? Combine the story in some humoruos way?Shit... now i have my head filled full of ideas about the story...

This answers my question plenty. I'm fairly new here and I just thought a forum with the name "LineMarvel" that talks about hentai just didn't make any sense to me. Now I know.

Kewl. So some of you guys go waaay back huh.

Re: ULMF?

I think we had a wiki at some point that labeled a lot of our original history, but I can try and give a short synopsis.

circa mid 2007:
When Demon Girl released, Linemarvel kept a blog in the description on Newgrounds. That blog is the one literally linked on the front page . At that time, he actually wrote a lot about the nature of perversion and (occasionally) updates about his next project, Mystic Girl, which was a really fresh change of pace from the mindless perversion that went on in the comments of Newgrounds, and it really gave people a new perspective on how and why we look at smut (Seriously, go to that link and read some of his writings. You'll notice that, even being a decade old, a lot of it still rings true) Combining that with the fact that Demon Girl was one of the first games to use the concept of RoR in both the east and west[citation needed], which itself was rather action oriented in comparison to the trend of hentai in 2006, he developed a relatively large following very quickly, which led to a lot of posting on his blog. As time went on, one of the commenters noticed that the comment section of the blog was getting crowded, and that there were actually enough people to establish a small forum to get together in. That person was Aika. So using a free host(I think if my muscle memory is right, it's like lmarvel.proboards57.com), he established the first ULMF forums. To keep it short, I'll spare all the little details about individual members and the wacky adventures in that first incarnation. But eventually, we were reported to the ProBoards administration, who had a policy against pornographic content, and were taken down.

More relevant to the topic though, during this first incarnation, Linemarvel briefly acknowledged the existence of the forum, but, as he was wont to do, disappeared off the face of the internet. Without the primary reason of the forum's creation, we were pretty much left to our own devices. We talked about his games, our hype for Mystic Girl (rest in peace), and what other h-games we were playing (Keep in mind this is 2007, so the only games at the time were eastern visual novels, the occasional full game like Erotical Nights, and dating sims in the West, so we really had little to talk about). As time went on, we started building other communities less focused on hentai games, and they still exist today. Things like the RP boards, Play by Post boards, and the Blank Page were essentially the natural product of Linemarvel disappearing. In the end, though, we were really holding out for Linemarvel because, whether anybody, including Linemarvel himself, realizes it or not, he really spearheaded the western h-game market (or lack thereof), and thus wanted to see what his next product would bring.

circa early 2008:
This brings us to our first exodus. At the time, we had three admins: Aika, AI, and Nunu. AI basically led an organization effort to make sure all of the members were kept informed as we scrambled to find a new place. I don't remember which host we chose this time, but Aika managed to find a temporary spot. This second forum was called Tentacle Haven and was hosted on (You'll note that I actually have this link because LM's blog still links to that as being ULMF). The unfortunate thing about this place was the host chosen had absolutely no software to prevent adbots from swarming the forums, and this VERY quickly led to a messy end. As far as I remember, we didn't even have mods for any section, so the moderating was left to the admins. And this wasn't happening because Aika and AI were a little busy with real life obligations (I think), and Nunu couldn't handle it on their own. The board lasted about half a year before Aika decided to bite the bullet and pay for his own server. And that brings us to around the end of 2008, when ulmf.org was made.

To complicate this even more, Linemarvel was almost completely MIA at this point. I think he made an account in Tentacle Haven, and made a handful of posts, but more or less disappeared again. So not only were we attacked by adbots for half a year, we were getting constantly teased by a missing developer.

November 2008:
So once ULMF.org was made, we were finally in a safe spot to do what we want. By now, we'd grown less attached to Linemarvel due to his constant disappearances, and started branching out to just talking about h-games in general. What was truly surprising, however, was during the early days of the forum, he actually came back one more time with the promise to keep updating more frequently. This lasted about... Three months. In summer 2008. We haven't heard from him since. But because of the crazy amount of trials the forums had to go through to even exist, a tight enough community was formed that kept it alive all the way to now, where it ended up becoming a really big hub for h-games in general.

So yeah, that's a lot more information than I was expecting to type, but that's a brief history about Linemarvel's relationship with this forum. But now that I've opened up his blog again, I kind of want to archive it here in case something happens to it. There's actually a lot to say about the guy, which is surprising considering how often he disappeared, but I'll let somebody else talk about that.

Oh and, shouldn't this be in the Linemarvel section of the forum?

Re: ULMF?

I actually thought about seeing if people would be interested in me reviving the Jungle Girl remake (like with new art, programming, etc. of course) but I realized it would be a bad idea even if people approved of it, due to copyright issues in the rare chance he shows up again, etc.

Actually, many hentai game makers copy some of his games and he accepted art from fans, also many had tried it before, so you can try it of you really want.

Also technically there has been a few that have taken his general idea on games and expanded on it already (Angel Girl and Ninja Girl rings some especially close bells), so personally I don't see a problem with doing a Jungle Girl or Demon Girl recreation with a bit of extra polish.

After all, think some of the few copies of the games got hacked with his Newgrounds account and had some trashy spam site ads stuffed in it.

Eh, taking the idea and building on it is quite a bit different from straight-up recreating the game. Especially if you're going to charge money for it.
