The whole premise of this seems rather silly to me, not to mention the fact that there's too many goddamn people on this planet as it is so I have moral objections to a group that's sole purpose is making more. But now that you've brought this to my attention I've got questions.

How does this even work?

Do you screen candidates for attractiveness? Does one get to see the breeder/breede before meeting or just show up at some random place and find something as appealing as roadkill?

Seems like some STD screening should be done as well...

Well, topic like that does hit basic human instincts of having offsprings so it isn't that strange.
Girls that like writing porn? Oh boy, it's not "there should be" it's "there are"... Generally, women are more perverted than men, they just don't speak so openly about this.
Just look at the books for women, a lot of romances also do have shitload of sex in it. A lot of guys just prefer having visual content.
Especially all of this works great nowadays, when we see a lot of people being single and waiting until 25-30yo to make a family. Work, stress, stuff it all ads up.

It's not like low birth rates in developed countries come without any reason behind it...

As someone who does it (a lot) and gets paid for it(not enough) I'd say, now that we are off topic anyway, its a triumvirate of reasons:

1. Writing is hard. Just like everyone can draw stick figures everyone can write, but to proper develope writing skills, erotic or otherwise takes quite a while, just like no one can draw well without years of training. I've been at it for years and still feel like I don't do well often. Fanfics are often someones first attempt at writing, making them cringe-prone by nature.

2. Impersonation is harder. You are now reading this in Morgan Freemans voice .. aside, in a fanfic you assume the role of an established character and you need to use a similiar style, manner of speaking, etc. To again draw a paralel just try to imitate an artists artstyle without simply copying them. To make matters worse, you likely haven't heard the character in question speak in an erotic context.

3. Storytelling is the hardest. A lot of fanfics force certain .. interactions to happen. If you catch my drift. Harkening back to my first point, its not impossible to write an alternate universe where X actually secretly fell in love with Y, but you can't just have that happen over one eye glittering meaningfully staring moment. If you want to have people with adversity make out or friends to 'go a little further than you'd think acceptable' you have to write up a damned good reason for them to.
