Re: So, looking at making another attempt at a Dark Heresy run...
Okay, so between Lurker, and some others who've made some comments elsewhere, I've gotten enough possible interest built up that I'm going to go ahead and type up how I've been thinking about handling character creation for this.
ALLOWED BOOKS: Corebook, Blood of Martyrs, Book of Judgement, The Inquisitor's Handbook, and The Lathe Worlds. Ascension and web-supplement Heresy Begets Retribution will also be allowed, however materials from those will not play a role in character creation. Expanded XP track from Ascension will be in use.
STAT GENERATION: As per random method detailed in the Corebook, with one exception: Roll up nine totals, then assign the rolls before adding homeworld-specific values.
However, if you discuss a character concept with
me, I may choose to give you a few extra characteristic bonus points if I feel like the situation warrants it. For example, someone discusses playing a choppy-based Assassin character with me, then rolls their stats. Weapons Skill (The Melee Accuracy Characteristic), for example, ends up at only 26 (which is pretty low for the system). In this case, because they talked with me before derping together the character, I'd probably choose to grant them a +5 to their WS. On the other hand, if the first clue I had that they were thinking about a character for this was their completed sheet, I wouldn't.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND PACKAGES: These will be unavailable for purchase. However, I may choose to grant one to your character, based on their background/concept. I
have to read or be told such, prior to any such decision being made. If I decide to give one to the character, they receive all of the effects of it, but do not have to spend XP for it.
STARTING WOUNDS, FATE POINTS, WEALTH, AND XP: Treat Wounds and Fate Points as if you had rolled the max for any related die rolls. Do the same for Wealth, but also add TWO months of Rank 1 Income to your total. In addition, characters shall start with 500 XP to spend. This will mean that once starting XP is spent, they will be at Rank 2.
SISTERS OF BATTLE CHARACTERS: Use the BoM version, with the following adjustments: Replace "Basic Weapon Training (Bolt)" from starting talents with "Basic Weapon Training (Flame)". Replace the Bolter in starting gear with a Flamer. Replace "Basic Weapon Training (Flame)" with "Basic Weapon Training (Bolt)" at Rank 2. Swap the Rank Availability of "Pistol Training (Bolt)" and "Pistol Training (Flame)". Bolt Pistols require Rank 4 to be requisitioned, and Bolters are available at Rank 5. Hand Flamer may be requisitioned at Rank 2. In addition, any Sister of Battle will be from the
"Order of the Argent Flame", which I developed based off of charts for minor order generation I discovered elsewhere.
CHARACTER DIVINATION: The final step in the Corebook's Character Creation Rules, I will generate this for the characters myself, and such shall serve as sort of a "Stamp of Approval" for the character.
