So, off-and-on for a bit, I've been working on a character I'd used in an old version of Siphon's Sci-Fi Freeform RP, and after some discussion with Siphon, I'm thinking about trying to run something akin to it myself, since his RP has died out. For those familiar with Siphon's RP, I'm going to make an attempt to not be quite so "SQUIRREL!" about bringing in new villains and whatnot. Also, as the inspiring RP was not ERP-focused, so shall this also not be a smutfest.
Story-wise, initial plot shall be focused around a rising number of mysterious, and costly, incidents occurring at facilities operated by a relatively influential interstellar power. (Exact nature pending.) Characters will likely start out being drawn into helping investigate possible causes.
Speaking of characters... If Siphon allowed it in his deal, I'll probably allow it here as being playable. While not quite as developed in some areas, technology levels are pretty close between this and his RP. I will, of course, want to discuss details of any races, tech, etc. that you may be wanting to bring in, so expect questions. As an additional note, personal-level weapons with heavy artillery or greater power are a no-go. For ship level, be reasonable about it. Exterminatus-grade weaponry is going to be heavily restricted, and only allowed on a case-by-case basis.
Further details will come forth as I figure them out/as interest warrants.
EDIT: Going to just go ahead and post the character sheet stuff...
Character Name: (Self-explanatory.)
Species: (Can use one from the pending list, or make up/borrow one. Try to keep to a race that is reasonably "good guys".)
Age: (Can vary depending on species.)
Appearance: (Description or picture.)
Abilities/Equipment: (Any notable abilities, such as psionics, massive strength, massive durability, etc. or specialized/out-of-the-ordinary equipment and tech should be noted here. Also, don't god-mod.)
Ship: (Give a basic description of any ship that your character has, as well as a description. Try to keep it reasonably sized, no heavy capitals or mobile death-stations.)
Expanded Lore Stuff Under Here.
Some names subject to change.
Bray-Tell Conglomerate - Interstellar Mercantile Conglomerate formed approximately 250 years prior to game start, Bray-Tell has become the de facto government for the Epsilon Leonis Sector. Recently, a rash of mysterious failures, breaches, and other incidents have struck the Conglomerate's research stations, infrastructure facilities, and even one of their major offices. Recovered surveillance footage suggest that there is some manner of outside force instigating or directly causing these incidents. However, reports from clean-up crews of rough graves or markers in the fashion of "battlefield memorials" at some sites have also suggested that a second outside group is perhaps also present.
Much of the Conglomerate's fleet is merchant-ships. For it's security, some of the ship designs were converted over to fighting ships, however a few classes were designed from the ground up to be warships. More importantly, at least for Conglomerate advertisers and markets, are the equipment used by their "Planetary Defense Corps". The engagements these forces fight planet-side are fuel for the Conglomerate-encouraged hero-worship present in the sector's markets.
Weapons technology for the Conglomerate's forces comes primarily from Teller Munitions, one of the two founding companies of the Conglomerate. While their ship-based weapons tend towards energy-based weaponry, much of their personal-level weapons are projectile-based. Officially, this lean is due to research showing lower probability of catastrophic site damage from the manufacturer's designs and ammo, although some suspect that the fact that projectile weapons require ammunition purchases as opposed to the charging stations of energy weapons may have also played a factor in the decision. Ground forces are also often equipped with the latest in personal defenses and mechanical support offered by Brayten Technologies, the other founding company. Chief among Brayten Tech's products are a variety of armored environmental suits, powered armors, and even a handful of "riot suppression" autonomous walkers.
As for the "constituent markets" of the Conglomerate, humanity makes up the bulk of it, although there a number of near-human aliens among the population of the sector.

Triptych Research Station - An enduring rumor of recent years in the sector, the Conglomerate first became aware of Triptych via faint transmissions picked up referencing it. However, all efforts so far to locate the station have met with failure. Rumors abound about it, some stating that it predates the establishment of the Conglomerate, to it holding wonders of technology far beyond what is currently available within the sector. A few, mostly the absolute most ardent of hero-fans, and even a small handful of PDC soldiers, have recently started whispering that Triptych may be the source of the rising incidents. This view, however, is exceedingly in the rare.
Sons of Kerfit - Semi-rogue group of Conglomerate personnel and sector population, the Sons of Kerfit have grow from a collection of like-minded corporate executives into an almost army-sized pseudo-cult. While the group maintains an almost corporate structure at the upper levels, the lower ranks are filled with a nearly fanatical devotion to their leaders, particularly the current head, a figure known primarily only as "White". The group is rumored to hold a large amount of psionic potential. The group's leader is also rumored to have hidden, dangerous designs, particularly with regards to the mysterious Triptych Research Station.
While most of the group uses Conglomerate ships and equipment, the elite ranks are known to have custom-ships and equipment with designs thematically similar to Earth's Egyptian culture.
JINGO - The Conglomerate's version of a social media service. ((OOC: It's a Twitter expy.))
Leonis Sanitation - The Conglomerate's site clean-up company, based on Rawlanger Station, which deals with everything from the various hero-producing incidents, to major disasters, to the aftermath of facility-wide plumbing malfunctions. Although advertised as being the most professional large-scale operation janitor in the galaxy, the fact of the matter is that there's a high turnover rate among their employees, whether due to contraband arrests, literal cutthroat internal competitions, or just plain incompetence. Known problems among Leonis Sanitation workers include kleptomania, drug use, potential cannibalism, and the occasional bout of stalker-ish perversions. The one beacon of quiet competence in the whole mess, and perhaps the main reason the company hasn't folded yet, is their Senior Sanitation Expert, and de facto supervisor of the so-called "maniac farm" (also known as "those idiots we employ"), Peter Oswald.
