The creature makes good its escape, going up a wall and into a shaft in the ceiling. Only one of the nearby ash piles seems to have anything valuable, one of the creatures having only been partially burned. Sifting aside some of the charred spider flesh and tearing through the demons innards, Nillien finds a small liquid filled sack.

Storing the sack carefully, Nillien begins to look about for an exit she could go through aside from the one she entered the room through. Deciding that it would be best if she kept her mind off of earlier occurrences, Nillien will take the first passage she sees as long as it isn't the one leading back the way she came.

There was the way up that the spider had taken, which is the most obvious. Spotting a ladder leading up, Nillien climbs up to find herself in a stone tunnel. The spider was long gone, but the only paths were immediately in front of her or back down the ladder.

Well, If I'm going to the town, I guess a ladder up to a tunnel that doesn't seem to be part of the mines is a good starting point. Might as well see where this tunnel takes me. I really don't want to go back. Nillien thinks as she moves forward along the tunnel. She'd also keep a look out for any alcoves she might be able to hide herself in so that she can rest and meditate. Her control might improve if she could let the spirit settle a bit.

She doesn't realize it due to her enhanced vision, but the entire area around her is pitch black, though to her it is just mildly dark. Heading along down the tunnel, Nillien is forced to stop by a thick web blocking the tunnel from wall to wall and ceiling to floor. The spider must have left it here in case it was followed, figuring that she would be unable to see it in the dark.

Realizing that the web would likely protect her from attacks on that side, Nillien moves over to rest against the wall and meditate for a bit before attempting to remove the web. She hoped this would give her better control over her power.

Nilliens rest remains undisturbed, and she manages to regain a degree of control over her spirit as she meditates. She finds memories and thoughts that don't feel like her own, likely parts of the spirit she had bonded with.

This feels really weird. I wonder what my mother would say if I could ask her... if she would even bother listening. Nillien thinks, slightly homesick and sad that she probably would never go home. Still, getting up, she moves over to the web and closes her eyes. Concentrating as hard as she can, she channels a small portion of spiritual energy into her finger and uses the flame to cut away at the web.

(If I have to cast a spell, holy fire 1, cone, otherwise I just have a flaming finger)

After cutting away the web with a bit of her energy burning on her finger, which quickly regenerates, Nillien is free to move on.

(This hand of mine is burning red.... XD )

Moving forward, Nillien decides that focusing on whether or not the spider laid more traps would be the best thing to do. It now has had a great deal of time since she had meditated. Plus, that way she wouldn't have to think about the demoness.

The tunnel sloped upwards, though not sharply, and Nillien found no sign of the passing demon as she moved down the tunnel. It eventually led her to an intersection with another tunnel, leaving her with four directions to choose from. She could go back, continue forward, or turn either left or right. She had no idea where she was or how to get up to the town, so anything she chose would be little more than guesswork.

Well... great... I was hoping the path would lead out to something with a clue to navigate by. Nillien thinks, glancing at the passageways. After a bit of thinking. Nillien decides to just go ahead and follow the right wall. That way, she could always retrace her steps, and she wouldn't walk past the way out if she went randomly straight.

Turning right and following the wall takes Nillien through even more tunnels, the path leveling out shortly and taking a slight right turn, the wall beginning to curve. She seems to walk for hours down that single pathway, the cramped light-less place and stale air bothering her much less than she thought it should. Eventually, she saw a bright light up ahead of her down the tunnel.

Re: A Desert Girls Tale (Pheonix Alugere)

Remembering how much the bright light of the torches hurt her eyes before, Nillien uses a hand to shade her eyes slightly as she slowly moves forward. Maybe this would be the end of the mines. While the mines were probably safe than the town, it would be harder to get lost in the town itself.

Fortunately, in the past few hours, Nillien has managed to distance her mind from the thought of what she did to the demoness earlier.

Putting what she'd done to the demoness earlier out of her mind, Nillien steps out into the light, and immediately feels an extreme sense of discomfort. She can barely see from the light, her stomach twists in knots as though she is about to throw up, and her skin itches and burns where it is exposed to the light. She can hear moving water nearby, very nearby in fact, but she can't see anything well enough to tell where it comes from. Perhaps after a moment she'd get used to the light, but Nillien feared she might always feel a degree of discomfort in the light of the sun from now on.

Re: A Desert Girls Tale (Pheonix Alugere)

Stepping back into the shadows of the cave to try and hide from the light, Nillien tries to cover as much of her body with the cloak she found in the buildings outside of the mine as she can. Moving back towards the edge of the light, Nillien tries to squint to see out of the cave. If that doesn't work, she'll close her eyes and settle for sending out weak spiritual pulses and trying to use them like sonar to 'see' where everything is without opening her eyes. In the meantime, she mumbles unhappily to herself about the situation she's now in and the damned sun being too bright.

After squinting for a while, Nillien can see that she is on a beach which borders a wide, fast moving river. There weren't any structures nearby, but her pulses reveal life above her, mostly demons moving about. She must be below the town somehow, and it might be possible to find some place to scale the cliff face to get up there.

Re: A Desert Girls Tale (Pheonix Alugere)

That's... that's a lot of water... Since when did was there a valley running through the village anyway? Nillien wonders as she stares at the massive amount of water. At least, while it might not be anything unusual for a person raised in the wetlands, someone raised in the desert would be rather impressed by it. Deciding that she needed to get up to the town anyway, Nillien tries to bring her cloak up even farther before moving outside and trying to get a good view of the cliff. If she still had the same problems with the light, directly climbing the wall would be out of the question.

While the light was still very uncomfortable, Nillien believed that she could probably put up with it long enough to get up the cliff. She spotted a trail nearby that wound its way up the cliff. It wouldn't be too difficult to climb, though she'd be fairly vulnerable if anything flying attacked her.

Re: A Desert Girls Tale (Pheonix Alugere)

Deciding that she would need to get up the cliff eventually, and that the sooner she was up, the sooner she could hide in a building, Nillien starts trying to move up the trail as quickly as possible. At the same time, she tries to use her spiritual senses to feel for any demons in the air so that she doesn't have to look in the direction of the sun.
