Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Actually if nothing else serious pops up to eat up my time I theoretically could finish the translation this weekend. Of course this is all just a theory. Don't expect miracles.

Risky to say dude! Best of luck but I hope you don't feel pressure to push something out. It's a public service, after all!

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

I haven't been back here in awhile, has there been any progress in getting the game to work consistently with Windows 8? Loved it on my old laptop with Win 7, and then I got a new one. Stupid Win 8...

Yes, the same trick that was consistently described yet sequentially forgotten in this thread works over two years still works. Don't ask me why people are so neglectful for the simple permanent fix.

The problem is with Windows 8's version of dmsynth.dll that causes all the crashing. It's basically a sound driver. To fix it for this and any other game that has this problem (i.e. Hotline Miami), there are some steps.
1) Download the Windows 7 dmsynth.dll from this guy's post.
2) Download "Take Ownership" from
3) Install Take Ownership (really quick process), and navigate to System32 if you're on a 32-bit machine, or SYSWOW on a 64-bit one.
4) Make a copy of the current dmsynth.dll
5) Right click the current dmsynth.dll, hit take ownership, and then rename it.
6) Paste the Win 7 dmsynth.dll into the files.

That should fix any problem with any Win 8 sound driver problems on that machine until the files are somehow changed.

This is messing with the internal files that make your PC actually work, so be extra careful and do not mess with anything but dmsynth.dll for this.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Thanks a bunch Echidna! I've struggled w/ this problem since I got Windows 8, only problem I've had with it really.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Wow...so yeah, went back and played the fly hunter stage and got some hella bugs. Pretty much every time I got shot, landed on the ground or turned to run near a downed hunter, I got an error popup. Also, there ended up being probably 40-50 hunters on the screen at a time...so yeah...it's hella bugged.

Same thing happens with me. It can be played through, just a pain to have to keep clicking the ignore button. Hopefully it will be a quick N easy fix. On one hand though, it can make the heroine seem more bad-ass by deflecting 30+ bullets at a time.

Yeah you'd THINK that would be how it works, but it's way more convoluted and retarded than that. It's not even worth reading about, imo. Just be aware that there are "administrator" privileges, and then there are weird "DOUBLE ADMINISTRATOR: XTREME" privileges that supersede the normal admin privileges. Or something. There are superduperadmin privileges that are required to perform some actions that are capable of disabling your operating system? I don't even fucking remember lol

Point is, you have to download the thing he said you have to download. You can't just like... skip steps in a list of step-by-step directions.

Well I am about halfway done. Only the story remains. The in-game texts are done.

Did you right click and take ownership and then rename the current dmsynth? Take Ownership is a registry hack that lets you change the permissions (ability to edit, essentially) of system files that are normally restricted for your protection. You don't strictly need something like this to edit those files, but it's otherwise a really long, convoluted process.
Renaming the old file lets you simply paste in the new .dll without there being any conflict of name and so the machine knows to use the new file.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

This was discussed a couple pages back. Yes, he is. No, it probably won't be out any time in the next few days.

Actually if nothing else serious pops up to eat up my time I theoretically could finish the translation this weekend. Of course this is all just a theory. Don't expect miracles.

awesome, hope all goes well :D

duh, over the past few yrs ive understood EVEN MORE of the effort work and time and how much of ur life goes into creating a game, and recently for some translating all things take alot of effort and work, just some programs and tools make things efficient and easier but the end result still always take at least a few hrs like a simple 30 second or less stick video, for translating and rly developing a game, thats always been way over my head for how much effort work and time and how much and easily life can interupt for what would normally take a day can turn into a week or 2.
but i do have an understanding that most ppl seem not to, that u need to just have patience and almost forget about it except for checking once in a while from a week to a month cuz most ppl seem to nvr b able to understand that the time and everything that it takes for most things to do with games and many other things is only 5-20% of how it rly is, i was actually guessing mayb it would take a week or a month with moderate amount of life interrupting being considered minimal, so pretty surprising considering that alot faster than the fastest i thought :D

Yes. I believe so.

The newest translation. Tell me if I messed up something and I'll correct it when I have time.

Edit: There was a small issue. Fixed translation.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Hey guys I downloaded the latest update and when I start a new game, it instantly crashes during the load screen for the first battle (Exit pub to fight green bandits). APPcrash, is there a fix for this? Or is this the same audio problem 100 pages back?

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

I need help.

The Windows 8 fix that is mentioned here a few times doesn´t work for me (take ownership and change the Name of the dmsynth.dll doesn´t work)

Does anyone have another way to do it?

EDIT: Ok got that fixed :) ... for anyone else who has this problem: just give your admins full permissions for the .dll to change the name :)

Open the details of the crash window - if "Fault Module name" shows "dmsynth.dll", then yes, it's "THAT problem".
