Re: To The Stars! (Zilrax, Mind Flayer, plmnko)
"One century huh... Fascinating. Wait, were you alive for that?," frowns Valis, raising an eyebrow. The idea a wolf might be older than her. She wasn't sure how to feel about that.
"There's more to a mother than genetics. In any case, we have food on the ship. Vegetarian wolves huh. On our world eating other species still is the norm, same for many other species. But they aren't relient on crossbreeding. I'm curious how your species comes out pureblooded when mating with other species though. Some sort of retrovirus in the seed perhaps. Maybe that's why it no longer works, you were infected and it prevents binding to own species due to the dna too similar but it can rewrite other species. I'll need to check that as soon as we're done eating. Anyhow, I've no intention of eating anything on this world. We've no lack of supplies onboard, sharing a few is hardly a risk.," hums Valis as she walks into the storage room with the alpha.
In there they pass a large bulky metallic suit covered in heavy plating and many sensor apparati. "That's the suits all of my people wear on my planet, almost at all times. It protects us from our planet because without it, we'd die an agonizing death. My suit got damaged during a skirmish with pirate slavers. I got very heavy acid burns. It took a lot of rehab to recover, but the scars remain." She heads over to a couple crates, opening one and taking out a machine, tossing a bag in it and hitting a couple buttons, before opening it and taking out a bag of cauliflower. "We can freeze dry food in order to preserve it, and reconstitute it later. Here, plant from our world, give it a try."
Valis herself removes what looks to be an injector like tub from another crate and presses it into one of the nozzles of her gas mask, seeming to inject it in, her giving a shudder as her gas mask seems to fill with purple smoke before fading as it is inhaled. "On Venus, we were reliant on hydroponics but that's only good while you're inside, and you can't exactly drive food around to the mining sites and if they got sieged in they were as good as dead. Some genius scientist got a solution though and managed to create a sort of gas that contains nutrients to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. Great in theory but that led to new problems where hydroponics became the foremens and supervisors alone. Now eating solid food is considered a luxury and sign of status. I never really bought into it myself. Still freaks me out I have acid inside of me. Completely irrational, I know, but I can't help it. Billions of years of evolution, no one has spontaneously melted from the inside yet my brain can't help but chant I'll be the first."
Valis shakes her head. "Well enough of my insecure irrational self. What other species live out here that are stealing your females? And why are you so damage proof? If Elisa had shot anyone on our world like she did you, they'd have their head blown clean off. And my bullets explode. None of the systems seem to be malfunctioning so I'm very confused."
