This may have been answered earlier in the thread as I see many posts discussing AFTER this part, but I just got to the free-roaming portion after beating Blue in his hideout. Ive went back to the snow town to clear the mines (to very little success), explored the area between starter town and snow town for other dungeons and areas to explore, and find myself kind of stuck on what I am supposed to do next. I did get two quests for magic stones, one at the hot springs and one in the swamp, but no clue on how to progress to either of these areas to start clearing the dungeons.
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on where to go from here?
You're probably at the point of needing Levitate (buy in snow town) to do more stuff. Then try exploring south of seagull and/or bravetown
Also, just in case anyone still needs this info, i've attached a number of item screenshots and information on them, some i made before, some just now. The items don't always tell you what they give you.
For example:
This early-game innocuous little buckler gives+5 speed and luck.
While this:
early game blue rod here, can be used in battle as an item to cast blizzard (it seems kindof weak, but it hits a whole row and can freeze enemies), it does not need to be equipped to be used in this way. There is a chance of breaking the item on each use (it will flash the screen and make a cracking/snapping noise to notify you), not destroying it since it can be repaired... unless you keep using it and it breaks a SECOND time, only then will it be destroyed.
A bit later, once gaining some levels, a special option will become available on some items, it seems kindof rare, but...
This ring here...
"Power Release"will be available only if the item is equipped. using that option
WILL DESTROY THE ITEM, however, they cause some specific effect, some of which i attached images of and what they can also do, such as change class (without losing levels), change alignment, give you bonus permanent stats, or restore hp or spell slots.
Save before experimenting, especially with power release, obviously, and don't use ones that change alignment or class unless you really need to. Most of these i have seen drop from fights already, and i have not gone all that far into the game, many people are here talking about some shit far ahead of me, but i've seen almost all of these just after defeating Blue.
Early game picking up some of these and just keeping them in inventories (I like to keep my thief with an ice or fire rod in case of wisps or ghosts being the only enemies, so they won't be useless)
Additionally, some weapons attack with an element other than physical, on one save i have a gold and blue mace, but the obvious one is the ice sword, but i think i've noticed this bow
also hitting physical-immune enemies. this bow isn't very good at it (especially compared to the gold mace), but it's something.
Just of note, the game is kindof like playing FF1-3 combined with Wizardry and Might & Magic 1-5. It's not telling you things on purpose, probably so that when you figure it out or discover something, it feels good, especially if you didn't already read about it. lol.
