Re: In today's news...

Hard to say... they set up a blockade saying no one is getting through, and a bunch of activists decided to try anyway (cause they never listen). There are two different reports: one of Israelis firing first, the other saying the activists fired first.

So... whom to believe? I can see both sides lying about what happened.

Of course, we can always easily just condemn Israel.

No crazier than normal, however I'm not going to condemn either since I wasn't there. I do hope the UN conducts a very thorough investigation though.

The main part that is difficult to defend Israel about is that the incident occurred in international waters. Which could be considered piracy by the strictest definition.

I have a knee-jerk tendency to blame Israel, but I really can't make any sort of judgment yet; there just isn't enough information.

sigh, as someone who has a close tie to the Jewish community i understand why they feel like they need to be so aggressive, but on many occasions they simply go to far. if you want to see something really crazy look up white phosphorous.

Re: In today's news...

Our trip flares are magnesium based, but just about every military in the world uses WP in some way. Again I can't condemn Israel for using WP weapons considering if you read through that article most countries are accused and or guilty of using them at some point. It does indeed cause very nasty burns as well.

Re: In today's news...

I don't really care who started firing or whatever... What I care about is the utter and total stupidity of dropping fully armed personell into a boat filled with 500 people in international waters. There's been several incidents that started off much the same in the past. Thing is mostly they'll fire a shot across the bow. Then they'll just put a cold grenade (that what it's called in english?) into the rudder system.

The activists almost certainly didn't fire, because they didn't have guns as far as I know. The best Israel could come up with is shoddy footage of some people beating on some other people with iron rods on board of a ship.

2 members of the German Parliament were taking part in that convoy.

Re: In today's news...

The really funny thing is that everyone's focusing on: "Who agressed first?" When the answer is really simple. Israel boarded a vessel in international waters. The vessel had stated that it intended to break the blockade.

International waters people! Israel was the first physical agressor. They shouln't have been on that ship in the firstplace.

Also, it's interesting to see how the Israeli story changes. At first they said the activists fired first from another deck with weapons already on the boat. Then they said activists fired first with weapons they took from the Israeli boarding team. Then they said that the activists had attacked with pipes and knives, and gotten at least one gun which they attempted to fire. Then it was just pipes and knives. I wonder what it'll be tomorrow...

Re: In today's news...

I agree that Israel was the original aggressor when they boarded the ship in international waters. From what I've read though the initial commandos on board were armed with anti-riot paintball guns and backup pistols. The first actual gunshots were from those pistols taken from the commandos when they were overwhelmed. Which caused the next group of commandos to rope down to respond with dealy force.

I think both sides are to blame in this incident, though I believe Israel is more deserving of the blame simply because they didn't wait till the boat was in their waters. If they had simply waited till the ship got to the blockade they would have a lot less problems then they have now.

The whole incident reeks of bad planning and shoddy intelligence, which is rather shocking considering it's the Israelis.

Israel has been through hell, unfortunately they think that gives them the right to give it back. if the people of Israel really wanted peace they'd leave Israel.

Re: In today's news...

I would argue with you guys (Since I live in Israel and I support IDF reaction to the float), but I just dont have the words and the knowledge of English to express my opinions.

on the other hand, Living in middle east is crap, I will move out of here as soon as possobile (and not because of those guys who call themselves palestinians), but Israel in general is a pretty fucked up place to live in.

Just curious if you were in the same situation as Israel, when theres a float of trying to break some blockage that u set on purpose, what would u do?

- I would blow up the float's Engine and let them stay in the water abit >.>

Edit: if someone doesnt understand something from what I've said, I will rephrase it.

Re: In today's news...

Actually I kinda agree with your reaction, but I would change certain things.

1. For example, I would wait until they were out of international waters, so I didn't break international law.

2. I would NOT board them because the only possible outcome is escalation.

3. I would put shot across the bow, then a cold grenade (grenade without explosives) into their rudder system, like has been the standard reaction to similar situations around the world for several years.

4. I would not start the information flow by lying, then gradually changing the lies over a period of hours.

I think that's all for now.

As Wonderboy said, the point here isn't that they stopped the shipment(although the method they used is questionable), the point is that they did it in international waters, which makes them effectively privateers. There definitely should be consequences for that.

Re: In today's news...

Okay, got you Wonderboy.

Tbh I dont have anything to comment on, because I agree with most of views about Israel.

handofdoz, Imagine that ur a Jew, and you hear alot of anti-Semitism stuff over the glob, would you leave ur country where u actually feel safe from all that anti-Semitism crap?

Edit
And another thing handofdoz, basicly what you've said to me "if you actually want peace, leave your house" I dont want to leave my house, I was born here!

back to the fleet thingy, seems like another Fleet is heading (part of the prevision fleet that just didnt make it), and it will arrive this weekend, I hope this time no injures or deaths.

Just come to America. At least if you get beat-up/killed over here, it's because someone wanted your money, not because of your religion :p
Hell, go to Canada, even. Just stay away from Quebec. It's filled with French-Canadians. They are a silly lot.
