And in different news, though slightly old and probably already posted before(Sorry if it was)

Java bugs and exploits that could mess up your computer. You may want to check your java version if you didn't already, or just disable it.

I think we should follow the British playbook on this one guys, let's round up all the the people who follow religion blindly, and send them somewhere else... like mars.

How about we leave those folk here and go to Mars ourselves? That way we could start fresh.

Re: In today's news...

It's kinda sad, because when American politicians talk these days, I feel there's nothing but hate and lies pouring out. Maybe that's just because we've had the RNC or maybe not.

Anyways, for anyone who's getting tired of lying speeches telling you that the other party is the devil,

Most of the fact checking websites have gone: "Well, he might have exaggerated that a little." And that's it. No blatant lies, as far as I can tell at least.

Re: In today's news...

being a dog owner my entire life so far i have mixed opinions of all this. mixed because i've seen the look that dogs can when you threaten their master (pillow fight almost resulted in a friend mauling). it is conceivable that when apprehending someone if their dog becomes visibly aggressive your options become limited.

That being said, putting it down still isn't one of those options.

Re: In today's news...

Shooting the dog was entirely wrong, and unjustified. However, I do have to point out that despite this... I see almost all fault being pointed towards the officer, and not the man who was drunk and not following instructions from the police looking for an armed suspect.

Gotta say, if those guys didn't have much experience, and looking for an armed person they were more than likely all on edge and nervous as hell. Not saying this justifies the actions, but there is a bit more to the story than an officer shooting a dog.

Re: In today's news...

I have to agree with Sin on all counts and think it primarily comes down to the inexperience of the officers in question. I've known several green officers that simply didn't have the operational experience to make what any of us would call the right or smart call simply because they were nervous or afraid. Granted this always leads to problems but everyone makes the same mistakes at some point or another. Although it's a shame, to lay blame solely on any one person is probably wrong at this point and since I haven't trusted news of any kind in a long time and think there's more to this then anyone is telling us that to pass judgement with a lack of information is probably not the best idea.

Although I love dogs deeply, I've also known two owners who thought they had their animals properly trained and well under control... Both are dead, ripped apart by their own pets for getting involved at the wrong time. People tend to forget that larger canines are actually frighteningly powerful creatures and hail back to some of the most successful pack predators this planet has known in a long time. An angry dog is not to be taken lightly. That said, and please don't think I'm simply refusing to take a stance, The officer probably had better options at his disposal, and mistook a threat display as an act of aggression, HOWEVER, the second that the man refused to follow an armed officers orders, he put himself in that situation, even he admits as much. Also pay attention to several things. Several people say that they THINK or that it couldn't have acted aggressively, but the only back up they have for that is a shad green low light vision security system. They weren't there in person except for the man being arrested, and trust me, he was looking at the officers rather then the animal.

Re: In today's news...

then there's this.

and this:

And there are so many more of these that it isn't even funny. Apparently barking behind a fence (as in a lot of the cases I looked up) result in an officer fearing for their life and needing to take the most force they can use.

Whatever happened to "the least amount of force that's still effective"? When did shooting something in the head become to least amount of force?

Re: In today's news...

While I didn't watch the video (apologies, internet is absoloute shit today), how would you have acted in that situation? Wrestled the dog to the ground bare-handed? Beat it with a club?

I don't fuck around with dogs, if one's being agressive and I can leave then I do so. But if a dog comes after me in a situation where I cannot leave I'm not just going to let it do whatever it wants, I'm going to defend myself, and that means if I have my gun I'm going to use it. And I expect anyone else to respond in the same way to my dog, I however take the proper precautions to make sure that it isn't a threat to anyone I don't want hurt.

Re: In today's news...

Mace and Tasers are standard equipment. Either of those would have sufficed.

I'm not saying the suspect wasn't in the wrong. He should have stopped, and he didn't.

Watching the video, the officer had his gun already out, which is understandable considering they were looking for an armed suspect. I also believe that that's why he immediately shot the dog as soon as it bared it's teeth and growled; no thought to anything else, just 'oh crap, angry dog', *bang*

Children of the future they say. Well, then I don't have hope for the future. From telling the world how sad they are, making a last stand for attention to this.
Yes, I know. Suicide is bad and horrible. But seriously, it's just pathetic

The ironic thing is that the character the kid took suicide for comes back to life later on.

Oh, there's one recently where the dog was guarding an unconscious man, and the police shot the poor baby in the head and THEN maced him.

What. The. Fuck.

For the sake of saying it...they might be considered standard issue, but not all officers have them. They have to experience the use of it on themselves before they get one. There are many I work with that do not have one or the other, or both.

As for the video, that's not much to go on, since the dog is kinda censored from the camera. It is possible that it was aggressive (as already stated, could have been protecting a family member sort of thing). Who's to say in the guy's drunken state, he didn't say something insulting towards the officers? However, it does show they were overly aggressive though.

As for the family statements, I can't believe those (even though I'd like to), due to the fact it's the same thing every time. "Oh, he/she's an angel. He/she wouldn't harm anyone!" Same could be said of juveniles...

Media jumping on it to cause more drama, honestly. Only saying this, because I've seen it multiple times. Not defending either side, just saying don't believe everything by sight alone.

Re: In today's news...

Is it like this in every state?
I can confirm it for my state (Oklahoma) and certain others (mostly the nearby states). I would like to say yes for the rest, but I cannot make that guarantee. I doubt the SOP's change too drastically between states though.
