Ivy glared calmly down at the short creature as it breathed its last, its life escaping through the two holes she'd put into the little beasts chest with her swords. Its four companions littered the grounds around her, none of them having even come close to touching her with their primitive weapons. These little demons, goblins, hadn't put up much of a fight, and she was surprised she'd found a foe so weak so close to the dark portal.

"Did you have to kill all of them? You couldn't have even left one alive so we could try and question it for information?" The guardian spirit whined into her mind. So far, it hadn't proved so much a guardian, as a guide through the town and a director toward those she tried to rescue from the demons clutches. The spirit had whined constantly about having to save those who couldn't save themselves, but Ivy knew that she'd never be able to rest if she left even a single person in the hands of the foul creatures.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

' Oh, stop your whining already. I doubt the little things would of told me anything if I had tried. They looked too stupid to know anything. ' Ivy thought to the spirit before sheathing both of her bloody swords. The woman knew she could of let one of them live to interrogate, however that really wasn't her style. She usually attacked first and asked questions later when it came to demons. Even if she had run into a demon that looked smart enough to know something she likely would of just killed it, unless it begged for mercy or something. Demon's usually never did that as far as Ivy knew, during her hundreds of years alive she has yet to encounter such a pitiful demon.

Ivy continued her way, going through the town to make it to the dark portal. ' Spirit, is there anything up ahead that I should worry about? ' the woman didn't want to run into anything she couldn't handle. The dark portal likely had something guarding it, she wanted to know if she could handle it or not.

"Well, lets see here.... There's the ogres parked in front of the portal, those are always fun. And then there's that weird creepy guy in the cloak sitting in a ruined factory a little ways away. Then there's the squad of demon knights bunked in some factory barracks, might want to avoid attracting their attention. Everything else I spotted is just a bunch of fodder, you know, the usual stuff; a succubus, a few of those clawed guys, a stalker patrol, a battle group of goblins. Really, the only things I'd worry about are the ogres, if you're so dead set on rescuing that girl they took through the gate." The spirit replies, its voice annoyingly optimistic.

' Ah yes, the girl. What did she look like again?' Ivy wanted to save her, no innocent mortal should have to suffer enslavment from demon's. The old woman planned on saving her, whilst avoiding thr attention of most of the things in the area , like the knights. She'd have a hard time fighting through the ogers though so she hoped she managed to sneak past them and into the portal.

An image of a short, blond girl with blue eyes flashes through Ivys mind at her question.

Stealth: Success.

Ivy sneaks through the streets, avoiding the detection of any of the nearby demons with the help of her guiding spirit. She crouches behind a ruined wall, peeking through a crack to view the two massive ogres standing in front of the dark portal, now the only things between her and the gate.

' Hey spirit, would you be able to do something about those ogers? Maybe put them asleep or lure them away? ' if her spirit was usless and unable to do anything then she would simply try and sneak past the massive beasts. If that didn't work she'd have to kill them. As she waited for her spirit to reply she quietly waited behind the wall.

'What do I look like, a genie? I don't grant wishes, I just tell you where to go so you don't get squished or raped to death. Throw a rock at the other side of the road and run past 'em while they aren't paying attention or something.' The spirit replies. Apparently, he wasn't going to of much use other than as a guide.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

Ivy simply rolls her eyes at the spirits response. She didn't want to fight the big, ugly, creatures, much less risk losing to them, so she decided to try the spirits idea out. The creatures looked fairly stupid, how hard could fooling them be? Ivy proceeded to look for something she could chuck, like an empty bottle, or a well sized rock. She'd chuck it over to the left of the guards, then make a sprint for it, if she had the opportunity.

Perception: Success.
Stealth: Success.

Ivy finds a convenient looking bottle filled with some brownish, semi-transparent liquid. Shrugging, she chucks it across the street and into another alley which lay between a pair of large buildings. Miraculously, both demons immediately turn toward the sound and start lumbering toward, massive fists at the ready. When both are a few feet away and have their backs toward her, Ivy takes her chance and runs toward the portal. She makes it just as the first ogre rounds the corner of the alley.

On the other side of the massive gate, Ivy finds herself in a strange, twilit area, with ruins scattered around at the tops of various hills. The only thing she could see growing was scraggly grass, and the very air of this place caused her skin to crawl. She could see figures moving about, but none were near enough to her to see her, and none seemed to be coming any closer.

'Huzzah! Now turn right, the damsel in distress is that-a-way!' The spirit guide whispers into her mind.

' Anything I should worry about, or is there just some little weakling holding her? ' Ivy asked her spirit, via their special connection. If it was just some little succubus or one of those demon knight's she'd be fine. Drawing out her twin swords out Ivy silently dashes where her guardian directed her to go, ready to split a demon open and save a damsel in distress. She'd make sure the girl made it to safety, then go back to killing demons and saving other people who needed her help.

'Well, she's currently duking it out with the knight who caught her in the first place. Doing pretty well too, though it might be because he's naked and unarmed.' The spirit says, as she rushes toward where he'd directed.

'They're pretty far, about a mile, so you'd better hurry up if you want to get there in time to save her. Turn a little to your left.' The spirit says, as she runs on. She reached the bottom of the hill the portal was on and began ascending another one, which had a single stone perched on top of it. Ivy hadn't seen anyone up here from her earlier vantage point, but it paid to keep alert, especially this side of the gate.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

Ivy gave a nod in response to the spirit as she quickened her pace, intent on making it on time and saving the girl from an awful fate. She slightly turned to her left as instructed, moving as quick as she could. From what the spirit had said it sounded like the girl was holding her own fairly well. Still, the tide of battle could change in an instant, and she could start losing the fight pretty quickly. Even if the blond girl managed to kill the demon before Ivy arrived, she'd still need help escaping this hellish place.

Ivy continues her run, but is suddenly notices the three massive demonic dogs, hellhounds, that have suddenly taken the top of the hill. They have clearly spotted her, as their shadow armor forms and they roar in challenge, knowing her to be an intruder to their world on sight.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

( How big are these dogs? Are they about the size of say, a German Sheppard, or much larger?)

' Ugh, I'd been hoping to avoid stupid mutts...' Ivy thinks to herself and the spirit, clearly annoyed that's she'd have to bother with these demonic dogs. With her weapons already drawn she ran right at the trio of dogs, ready to stab one of them the moment the moment she could.

(They're about four feet tall at the shoulder.)

To-hit: 7 + 60 + 3 = 70 vs 38 + 18 = 56 == Hit.
To-hit: 8 + 60 + 3 = 71 vs 38 + 18 = 56 == Hit.
Damage: 12 + 15 - 18 = 9 damage.
Damage: 6 + 15 - 18 = 3 damage.

Ivy jabs both of her blades into the hellhound, but its powerful armor steals much of the force of both of the attacks. The one Ive had attacked pulls away while one of its companions summons a tentacle of the same substance as its armor, and the last charges her and tries to tackle her.

To-hit: 9 + 40 = 49 vs 50 == Miss.

Ivy steps aside at the very last second, avoiding the demons charge. It lands on its feet though, and quickly turns to re-engage her along with its companions.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

Ivy continued her attacks, lashing out at the beast. While she attempted to attempted to stab the creatures she tried to aim for a body part not protected by the armor. ' Any reason you didn't warn me about these mutts?' Ivy suddenly thought to the spirit, her thoughts sounding somewhat annoyed.

To-hit: 13 + 60 + 3 = 76 vs 38 + 18 = 56 == Hit.
To-hit: 7 + 60 + 3 = 70 vs 38 + 18 = 56 == Hit.
Damage: 10 + 15 - 18 = 7 damage.
Damage: 3 + 15 - 18 = 0 damage.

Ivies blades once again strike the creature, but they don't seem to have any part not protected, and one of her attacks doesn't even penetrate enough to nick the creature.
The spirit replies; 'I was about to. They started running up the hill only a few seconds before they hit the top, so I just spotted them. I'm not omniscient you know!'

To-hit: 6 + 40 = 46 vs 50 == Miss.
To-hit: 2 + 40 = 42 vs 50 == Miss.
To-hit: 19 + 40 = 59 vs 50 == Hit.

All three demons converge on her at once, lunging one at a time to try and bury her under their weight. Ivy is forced to dodge and leap, and she avoids two of the creatures. But as she regains her balance from dodging the second, the third, the demon that had spawned a tentacle, crashes into her and forces her to the ground on her stomach beneath it. Her face smacks against the hard ground, and Ivy is forced to lie for a second to recover. Tiny offshoots of its dark armor immediately grab onto her own armor, holding her in place, and she feels something brush up against her tail and along her back.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

( What kind of dogs do these demons look like? )

" Damn it! " Ivy cursed allowed after feeling the tentacle brushing up against her. ' Listen to me, spirit. From the looks of things, I wont be able to kill these dogs in time to save that girl. Leave me, go see if you can do anything to help her! ' In truth, she doubted the ghost would be able to do anything, however she might be wrong. Maybe it would be able to do something to help save the blond girl.

After thinking that to the guardian spirit she continued her struggle. She tried to angle her right foot and kick the things legs out. If she managed to do this successfully, she'd roll out and away from the beast.

(Sort of like big German Sheppards, but with all black fur and slightly shorter snouts.)

Grapple: 20 + 60 + 3 = 83 vs 5 + 42 = 47 == Ivy wins.

Ivy easily pushes the massive dog off of her, and stands to resume battle. Her spirit sighs, and replies; "You got it boss." The demons circle around her as she feels the spirits presence in her mind depart, growling menacingly. None of them attack for the moment, however, they just close in a circle around her.

Re: Savior of Hearts (BurntToast)

As she felt the spirit leave she could only hope it managed to help save the blond girl. ' At times like this, I wish I'd of bothered to learn magic. ' Ivy thought to herself. With the demon dogs circling her like a pack of wolves, she pondered what to do as she held up her sword defensively. ' My attacks are doing little to nothing thanks to those things armor... What to do..? ' she let a sigh out, before suddenly attacking, stabbing at the same beast for the third time. Until she thought of another way to handle this, she figured there wasn't any harm in relentlessly attacking.
