Re: Nanocrisis

Lets be clear: By the request of the creator of this game, no links to the game will be provided except through his own page. So please don't ask, because someone might do it and then get moderated for it.

It shouldn't be all that hard, especially if you run the web page through a translator.

That's something I don't understand though. Is it just so the site gets one more hit each time? It's even the same exact download link that he gives, so it's not like it's being downloaded from somewhere else.

Sorry, I phrased that wrong. IIRC, he's not banning links... what I had meant to say was that he doesn't like distribution from other sites.

Oh, I'm not complaining, I'm just honest;y curious. So what does that mean? He'd just prefer people to go to his page, like I said, for the extra traffic?

Re: Nanocrisis

This "fix" doesn't seem to do anything. I still get raped like 10 times in a row most of the time.

Re: Nanocrisis

I don't think he ever gave an actual reason, it was more a "respect my wishes because I'm giving the game for free". So in the end, we don't know for sure. Sorry.

That said, please understand that I don't know Japanese: its possible he said why but the machine translations missed it.

I doubt that it's traffic, more likely to ensure he knows that people only come to him for builds instead of complaining about some half-assed-baked screwup that someone has been messing around with. Kinda like the ROA stuff.

Re: Nanocrisis

But like I said the one we're giving is the same link he gives on his page. So is that not a problem? I thought we were saying that even though the download link is the same, he'd still like people to go to his page to get it? I don't know

Re: Nanocrisis

The whole "don't upload this to other places" does seem a little stupid, and I would have no issue with telling the dev that and why I feel that way if I knew Japanese. The dev of Unholy Sanctuary had similar request, not sure exactly when he put it out. In any case, I imagine it's to better gauge the popularity of their game. If it was me, I would think that the fact that the freeware game is now being mirrored by end users just to share with others is a pretty good indication of how popular it is. As long as the game is free and you enjoy it though, it's probably best to respect their wishes and deal with the fact that if their file server gets swamped, you might have to wait a day to get the latest version.
I think it's more to do with making sure that it's always the current content that is being shared.

Imagine if you find a game in english, and you found a bug. You decide to be helpful and go to the author and tell him about it. Confusions ensue and this could disrupt the game's progress.

Simply put, by making sure that only 1 source of the file is available, you can cut down some possibilities why something is wrong when it happens.

Or, you know, it could be about advertisement revenue.

Re: Nanocrisis

Also there might be a few stupid person that might try to claim the game as their own. It happens a lot for short animation/videos on youtube... ( even if it's in Japanese and they don't know a single word of it. But so will the few who will believe him. )

Re: Nanocrisis

Could be personal protection from foreign laws also maybe.

Some countries are pretty douchie with certain laws, dunno if he is accountable if his game is posted on said countries websites, but with todays vultures going around sueing for every stupid thing, I can definately imagine a situation like that.
