Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

"Yeah, they are both good people and I like learning from them. Though Keene can be a bit naggy at times, I still appriciate his guidance." Lucia replied, her voice very honest. The girl really seemed to like and respect a ranger's job.

"Huh? Date? No, not at the moment. When I'm a full ranger, then I'll see to that stuff. This takes enough time and attention, I couldn't really manage relationships at the same time. Unless, there's someone who is also a ranger or similar..."

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Nina nodded. "Duty is very important, but it's best when duty and relationships can coexist."

She relaxed back into her hammock and swayed in it a bit, thinking about Iliana and Iris and how she might manage to get back to them. But what then? How was she going to overcome a spirit who could hurtle her across the game world? She sighed and supposed she'd have to figure it out as she went.

((Go to sleep unless something else happens.))

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

"Yeah... I wish I can find some nice fellow to live with out in the forest as I work.. but that has to wait until I'm a full-fledged ranger.." was Lucia's final reply before she quieted down, most likely swaying about just like Nina did. The quiet crackling of the fire and the warmth of her blanket soon made the lost maid fall asleep on her hammock, with Tiger there on his blanket near the girl to keep her company.

The night passed in silence, Nina waking up once to see Lennart enter the cottage. The man saw her look at him, telling her that he went to do the rounds in the vicinity. With that said, he woke up Lucia and the girl left to do the same thing.

In the morning, the green-haired girl woke up to the smell of beans and eggs. Only Keene was present, sitting at the table and eating his breakfast. "Come and eat when you can Miss, I just got a message from our trained carrier bird that the prisoner wagon is coming over to pick up any possible criminals. It should be here in a hour or two, I'll ask the driver to take you into the town." the older ranger told her.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Nina nodded and moved over to smell of bacon and beans. It smelled good, and she helped herself to a generous portion. She really did need the energy. As she ate the food, she marveled at how well the game had mimicked hunger, and she wondered if her real body in the EGG was actually hungry as well.

She ate ravenously, and then waited with the rangers for the prison wagon. "Thanks for the food, shelter, and advice, Keene. I really appreciate it. Maybe one day we'll meet again under better circumstances. I hope your poacher problems get solved soon."

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Keene looked upon Nina's table manners, remarking that she was as bad as Lucia was when food was the issue. But the girl could still eat in peace, as the greying ranger was a mostly silent table companion.

After about an hour of her finishing the breakfast, the sounds of the carriage could be heard coming towards them. It was a plain construct, made mostly from iron and wood. There was a door with a tiny barred window at the side, which the driver came to open as Keene punted the female poacher in. The driver was a man as thin as reeds, but he still looked the part with his long coat, wide-brimmed hat and whip. In front of the wagon was a creature that looked like a horse, with slightly a thicker body shape and longer fur.

"You're very welcome Miss. It's a Ranger's job to provide to the lost people in the forest, especially to ones that help them. And I do wish for the same thing myself, though it doesn't look like we'll never get rid of these troublemakers. Maybe we will one day see in other circumstances like you say. But it is goodbye for now." were Keene's final words to Nina as the driver helped her on the rider's platform, which was surprisingly big. Even Tiger got a ride at their feet, there was enough space for the hound to lounge on as the wagon lurched forward. The start was slow, but a moment later they were making good progress towards the town.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Nina held onto Tiger by his haunches and took the time to pet him and nuzzle him. The ride would take the better part of the day and she had little enough to do except to enjoy the company of her new animal companion. She made faces and cute little calls and heaps of belly rubs.

Eventually her attention swung around to the horse-like animals, and she inquired of the driver what sort of animal or breed of horse it was, just to make polite conversation. She tried to ignore the woman in the back and have as polite and carefree a ride through the woods as she could.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

All the weird and wonderful attention given to him made Tiger give out a differing array of responses, ranging from happy barks to puzzled, tilt-headed looks at Nina. The dog was an expressive animal, that was for sure.

The driver wasn't too talkative, mostly focusing on doing his job, but he wasn't unsocial by any meaning of the word. He briefly turned his head towards Nina to answer her question, his voice somewhat raspy, no doubt a result of many years spent on gravelly roads. "It's a grimmian, a local horsebreed. Our regional leader discovered these animals in a mountain valley some twenty years back, and an expedition went in afterwards to capture a few of them. Turns out they worked excellently as draft animals or steeds. Not as fast as a regular horse would be, but these have stamina that far surpasses a common breed. And they hold out better in colder climates too. Only bad thing about them is that they need an experienced trainer, for there is plenty of spirit in the animals."

The day had reached into late afternoon as the occasionally bumpy ride arrived into the town. It was a small community built inside a huge clearing in the forest, ten large buildings going around a central square forming the town. The buildings looked like they housed several small apartments inside, one house being split into a prison and barracks, while another was a split merchant house and wagon station. The rest of the houses contained all the necessary estabilishments a community needed, along with the living quarters of the people.

The driver stopped the wagon near the prison, a few soldiers coming out to retrieve the woman from her little box at the back of the wagon as he stepped down and helped Nina descend from the riding platform. "Here we are Miss. Whatever your next effort may be, I wish you luck. Don't get yourself hurt or killed, would be a shame to see a pretty young thing like you fade away prematurely..." he said as the lost maid got down, holding onto her shoulders ad giving a honest smile to her before vanishing into the barracks. Tiger hopped down next to Nina, waiting for her next move with head held high.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Looking down at Tiger with a smile, Nina shook her hair and took a deep breath.

"Come on boy, let's go get ourselves a wagon to the desert."

She headed over to the merchant houses, looking for any official looking clerk to whom she might be able to present Keene's letter of free travel to. She needed to find the next wagon train traveling to the Einzbern region. She wouldn't be too picky, so long as it wasn't a train of cutthroats and vagabonds.

"Excuse me sir, can you tell me if there's a caravan heading to the Einzbern desert region?" she began her inquiry.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Right next to the door, there was a counter with a portly man sitting behind it, looking rather bored as he leaned back on the chair. Despite his lazy looks, the man had a worn uniform with two symbols on the chest, no doubt making him a minor officer. He got up deceptively fast when addressed, taking the paper from Nina with an impatient grab and studying it. "It's an official scroll alright... there's Old Dusty's two-wagon caravan right at the back, if you're in a hurry. He's going to depart within the next hour, like is the usual for him. If I got the idea right, there was a few other people here before as well that were aiming for that wagon train, so it might get a bit close and personal along the way if there's too many. The next one going towards the Einzbern region won't be leaving until tomorrow at the same time though..." he told Nina, slamming a stamp on her paper. "With that, your ride is paid by the state. Whatever caravan you'll be getting on, the payment will not be an issue."

"Thank you, sir!" She said and gave him her cheeriest smile. "I think I'll try to get on today's one. Just round the back you said?" She confirmed the location with the portly man and then made her way to find this "Old Dusty."

She wasn't opposed to a tight squeeze, so long as it got her back to Iliana and Iris and Lynette and Isaku and Valk and all the rest.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

"That's what I said, yes. Good luck with your endeavors, whatever they might be." the man said, flashing a brief smile before sitting back on his bench to wait for other things to happen.

Going around to the other side of the building, Nina found herself at a wide-open area with a few drinking tubs for the animals nearby, as well as a small stable that could house a few animals at a time. The only activity there was a two-part caravan, with a rather classical-looking canvas wagon at the front and another attached to it at the rear, this one looking like it was for merchandise only as there were neatly set and binded boxes atop the open platform of a wagon. The front wagon looked like it had been pulled straight from some western movie as Nina eyed it, a well-worn, patched canvas covering the entirety of the thing.

At the side of the wagon there was a trio of women, all very different from each other. The first one was a voluptous adult woman clad in a red dress, the front shoving off impressive cleavage as it opened up teasingly at her chest area, closing up again once it was past her chest. While the hem of the skirt ended halfway across her thighs, there was a longer "tail" at the back. She has a ridiculously long black ponytail running down to her lower back, and a pair of stylish glasses to finish off the look. The woman was seated on a funny-looking, three-coloured piece of wood that looked like a carved and painted stump. Next to it was a brown bag with a symbol on the side, a staff with a snake coiled around it.

The next woman was younger, likely the same age with Nina. She stood straight and sure near the wagon, sporting a dark green uniform with the same symbols as the man inside had. While the man's costume was loose, this girl had hers made into a more body-trailing one. Her figure was much more modest than the woman next to her, but there was no doubt firmness and muscle hidden under the covering uniform. At her side hung a thin-bladed saber, hidden inside an ornate sheath. The girl's hair reminded Nina of her mistress as it had the same shade of red, even though the girl's hair was shorter. She held it behind her head in a single bun held by a hairpin.

The third one wore a hood so Nina couldn't see the upper part of her face, but she estimated that this woman was about the same age as the first. A white, flowing robe made it impossible to determine her body shape as well, as it covered her nearly down to her toes. An amount of black hair also emerged from within the confines of the hood, reaching almost chest level with their bearer. At first glance, it also looked like the woman was missing an arm, as her right sleeve hung limply at her side. Like the first woman, she didn't have any visible weapons.

Besides the women, an old man dressed in canvas overalls went about the four grimmian horses at the front of the caravan, getting them ready for the journey. He was exactly what one would imagine a lifelong caravaneer looking like, a well-tanned, bearded man nearing his seventies. Despite the apparent age, he was still confident and full of life, firmly preparing the animals for the coming trek.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

"Hello there!" Nina said, ignoring the trio of women for the moment as she approached the seasoned caravaner. My name is Nina Vertmer, and I'm looking to join your caravan, if you're the one known as Dusty?" She presented the man with her stamped document. "Funding is assured by the state. I was told it might be a tight fit, but I'm in a fair bit of a hurry. My dog and I won't take up much space."

She smiled winningly at the man, before her eyes trailed away for a moment to look at the three women again, particularly the first one. She certainly was dressed to impress, for whatever reason that might have been. She smiled pleasantly as she swept her gaze amongst the three of them before returning her attentions back to Dusty. She didn't think there'd be a problem, but she was determined to be on this caravan.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

The man got away from his animals as Nina called for him, making way towards the girl with a brisk walk. "Well hello there girlie, it must be Ol' Dusty's lucky day, having four pretties along for the ride..." he replied initially, taking the paper from Nina. After a quick look, he rolled it back up and put it into the bag he was carrying. "Alright, you're welcome aboard. We need to stop for the night when the day ends, and we'll be taking a turn at night watch each. I also expect you to be able to handle yourself in case a bandit attack happens, since I can't be there for everyone. Though... I feel it'll not be needed in your case, you look mighty capable of handling yourself in a scrap." the old man said, looking over Nina's equipment and body with a somewhat disturbing manner, one of his eyes surrounded by black. After urging the girl to go and join the others in the front wagon, he took himself a nice handful from the aspiring maid's butt, chuckling a little as he went back to finish readying up the animals.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Nina was happy at first to have herself a place on the caravan, and even blushed a little at Dusty's compliment about her looks. She nodded along as he explained that she would need to take a watch and was again bashful when he said she looked as though she could handle herself. Her appreciation began to slow as she saw the way he was looking at her, but when he grabbed a big handful of her flesh and squeezed her butt she gasped loudly in shock.

Looking around at him in a cross manner, she rubbed her butt where the man had groped it. She did not looked pleased, but not wanting to cause trouble she looked away quickly, so as to not show anger towards a man who was helping her out.

"Come on Tiger, let's go meet the others on this trip," she said to her four-legged friend, and hoped up into the front wagon, holding out her arms to bring the dog up with her if he let her or simply letting him leap past her if he was energetic enough for it.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

"A better reaction than I hoped for. The other girl with the sword got angry at me, and well, showed it to me in a rather physical way." the old man said as he turned to go back to the animals, chuckling a bit more along the way.

Tiger didn't need the assist as he leaped on the platform quite casually before going past Nina and moving into the area under the canvas "roof" at the back of the first wagon. That area too had some boxies, along with the necessary equipment for spending nights at the wilderness. The other three women had already entered and taken seats on the floor. While there was still space in the back, it looked like Nina needed to sit next to one of the other three if she wanted to lean against a box or the canvas wall, as there wasn't another spot big enough for her to sit at other parts of the back compartment. The woman in the red dress still had her stool or whatever it was, so she was sitting at a bit higher spot than the other two.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Nina took a seat next to the nearest girl and leaned back against the box to rest her head. If she made eye contact with any of the other travelers she would nod and say hi. She wouldn't be adverse to friendly conversation but she wasn't feeling up to making the opening greetings this time. She was content to lie back and rest a while as the wagon got underway.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

The nearest one to Nina was the red-haired officer girl, so that's where she sat down, getting a nod of approval from the other girl. Tiger layed down at the middle, not wanting to make any of the humans feel stuffy, and couldn't really get next to Nina. The wagons soon creaked and jerked slightly to signal the start of the journey, and a few seconds later, Dusty's whip could be heard cracking as the horses started to take them forward.

The first hour of the journey passed in silence, the hooded woman seemed to have fallen asleep as a steady drawing of breaths could be heard from her direction. The soldier girl next to Nina maintained a stoic silence, while the red-dressed woman looked at the other passengers each in turn. Eventually she seemed to have given up on them, and turned back to her bag with a barely audible "..how boring.." mumble. She took up an unadorned book from the bag, leaving the bag open at her feet. There was an array of chemicals and tools in there that suggested this woman was a practitioner of the medical arts.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

After a while of calm rest and reflection, Nina began to feel better. Since the soldier woman was being stoic next to her, she respected the red head's silence, and instead let her eyes flit around curiously to the other women and their belongings. She took in the fact that the red-dressed lady appeared to be a medical practitioner of some sort, though her manner of dress did not seem to be in line with that sort of profession. Nina however, presumed better than to judge a book by its cover. Speaking of books, the inquisitive nature of the "grass-haired" maid surged in her once more and she spoke up, her voice loud enough for each girl to hear.

"So is the book any good?" she asked, hoping to strike up some conversation.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

The woman turned her attention towards Nina as the question was aired. "It might be, had I not gone through it dozens of times before. Helps me keep up with the methods needed, but god is it boring still." she replied, giving out a sigh and throwing the book to her side where it landed back into the bag. "I wish there was something to do on long and tedious trips like this one. This wagon is too small for any real activity." the woman continued, now focused on Nina as she had spoken up.

Re: Nina (BlueSlime)

Nina craned her neck to see if she could read the title of the book as it lay tossed aside on top of the woman's bag.

"What sort of thing qualifies as real activity?" Nina asked, curious. "Oh, I'm Nina, by the way... and that's my dog, Tiger." She decided that since conversation had begun, introductions were in order.
