Coming around the corner, Miranda focuses her energy into a searing flame that surrounds her body, then rushes out from her blade. Unfortunately, the creatures see the fiery ball flying towards them just before it hits, and manage to leap away as it explodes. Still, the explosive force is great, and the creatures are sent hurtling through the streets, crashing into the walls of the nearby buildings, there scaled skin smoking from the heat. The blast dazes them, but they quickly recover, leaping to their feet and hissing angrily at Miranda. They flex their fingers, viciously sharp curved claws eager to dig into her skin, before beginning to stalk towards her. She doesn't have much time before the creatures reach her.

Miranda almost jumped for joy when the reptilian creatures were thrown against the walls of the nearby buildings, their scaly skin smoking from the heat of the blast. That didn't last very long, however, as they quickly got up and moved towards her, brandishing their claws. Oh Gods that didn't kill them oh Gods she thought, panicking as they came at her. But I probably almost killed them, and I have a few seconds before they get to me I can do this I can kill them. She prepared herself to launch a fireball, waiting a few moments to trap them close to her in the narrow street; a little internal clock ticked off the seconds in her head until they were close enough, and then she hurled the fireball at the ground in front of her, hoping it was enough to destroy them.

"Calm down," Nero says comfortingly as Miranda begins to panic, but with a hint of mockery in his voice, "You've almost got them. Just a moment longer." Miranda didn't need the daemon's assistance though, as her second fiery attack flew out towards the monstrous lizardmen just as they were about to pounce on her. Just like before, though blast sent the creatures tumbling away, though this time they only hiss weakly before slumping down to the ground lifelessly.

"Excellent. It seems I managed to find a capable vessel in my time of need." Miranda can feel the daemon regarding the dead monsters with a bit of morbid amusement. "I wonder what their souls taste like."

While her companion was busy musing to himself, Miranda took in her surroundings. The streets were now clear once again, and she could move where she wanted without fear of attack. Straight ahead the road continued towards the center of the city, with it's large and opulent buildings where the rich and influential lived. Where she and her parents lived. Tower Goldspike lay beyond the mansions and palaces, and every so often Miranda could see flashes of magical energy from the windows. To either side, the roads continued into the market places, where she could hear panicked screams and shouted orders continuing. All the while, the giant monstrosity floated overhead, more and more of the smaller specks falling from it, though thankfully not in the area near Miranda.

Miranda took in a deep breath and then slowly let it out as she watched the strange creatures die. Thank you, Gods she thought in prayer, and then looked again to the giant tower at the center of the city. I suppose I'm glad you're pleased, but I don't think I'm all that capable. If this hadn't been a narrow space I couldn't have fought them all, and I'm already feeling a little bit tired. I can't fight too many more enemies like that she thought at Nero, watching flashes of magic burst out of the windows of Tower Goldspike. It looks like that's where the battle is. I'll have to be careful. She resumed her walk towards the center of city, resolving to herself that she would avoid the next enemy she saw if at all possible, before a thought intruded in on her. Should I go home and check on my family? They probably aren't still at home, they'd be somewhere else by now. And they're probably fine, my parents are powerful mages. But still... It's on the way... She decided to stop by and give the home a brief look-over to see if it looked like her parents were inside, and if they weren't to carry on quickly.

Okay, so I think I have 8 exp (or should have, anyway, Tass didn't give me exp for my first encounter with those thingies, and I think he should have), I just wanted to confirm so we're on the same page.

"Don't worry, Miranda, you can rely on my strength," Nero replies to her, sounding as if he were trying to comfort her after her self-deprecation. "No matter how powerful your enemies may be, they cannot stand against a god." When the girl first started contemplating avoiding battles and going to check on her parents, she could feel a wave of disappointment from the daemon within her. The thought that they may be powerful mages, however, changed his attitude. "It is in your mortal nature to care for your kin. You should check on them. Make sure that they have not been taken by these monstrosities, at least."

Miranda heads towards the center of the city, into the area reserved for the rich and well off to live. After a few turns down side streets, she enters her neighborhood. Normally, the sight of the familiar buildings would make the easily frightened girl feel much easier and safe. Now though, many of the buildings appeared to have been damaged, evidence that the sinister invaders had already been to this area. Gaping holes in the walls, smoke billowing from smashed windows, and dead bodies strewn about told the tragic story of her neighbors and acquaintances caught just as unaware as the people around her when the attack first began.

At the moment, the street was clear and quiet, but somehow, Miranda knew the area was not completely safe. Every so often, the sounds of crashing furniture, the rattle of small bits of metal on hard floors, and breaking glass, led the girl to assume that the various buildings were still being searched for survivors, but not by any who would be considered help. The large two storied house she, her parents, and their servants lived in lay at the end of the cul-de-sac. There was only one way in and out of the neighborhood, and checking on the house would require traveling past all of the decimated, but possibly not empty houses along the way.

Re: Miranda (Tiffanian)

Miranda slowly made her way through the city towards her home, thankfully encountering nothing along the way. The brief moment of confidence Nero had given her quickly faded away as she saw her neighborhood in ruins. She fixed her gaze straight ahead, desperately trying not to look at the twisted corpses of her neighbors strewn about the street. This is so terrible... Why is this happening? What have we done to face such severe wrath from the Gods? She could tell from the noises all around her that this place wasn't quite safe, as the sound of battle and ransacking echoed from the burning buildings. Still, she carried on. She had to, she couldn't just run away without trying to find her parents. Could she? No, it was out of the question. She called upon her knowledge of magic again, shrouding herself in shadows to try and keep the attention of the monsters away from her as she made her way carefully to the end of the cul-de-sac, trying to keep out of view of the windows of the houses as much as possible, more than a little afraid of what she might find when she got to her home.

While she hadn't been trying to pay particular attention to the bodies strewn about the streets as she walks through her ruined neighborhood, Miranda couldn't help but notice that more than half of them were men. In fact, it seemed like about three quarters or more of the bodies were male, with many of the female ones being either very old or very young. Still, her spell cloaked her in darkness, and Nero remained silent within her as they traveled down the street. The daemon was still present within the back of her mind, but he seemed to be waiting for something to happen.

The street was totally silent as she snuck down it, until Miranda finally stood in front of what was left of her house. Something had destroyed one of the walls into the mansions grounds, probably one of those things that had attacked her when the creatures had first arrived, or something of similar size. The gate had also been torn off of its hinges, and the front door was missing completely. About halfway from the street to the door, a body was crumpled on the ground, motionless, and garbed in scholarly robes. For a second, Miranda thought that it might have been her mother, but on closer inspection, she found herself looking down at the body of her nanny, Kyrica. She'd also been one of Mirandas teachers, when she was younger, but she hadn't seen the woman in almost eight years, but still, seeing the body of someone she knew, rather than those of mostly faceless neighbors whom she'd had little real contact with.... Miranda couldn't help but imagine what it might be like to look down at her own parents bodies in such a fashion, twisted and mangled and left to rot in the sun.

The door ahead of her was open, and she was free to try and look within her home. But, from the look of things, she wasn't likely to like what she found. A loud crash sounded from within, as though something heavy had been smashed, but from out here Miranda had no idea of what might be going on inside.

(If anything is at odds with what was done previously, let me know. I didn't yet read over everything xivvix had you do while he was your GM.)

Re: Miranda (Tiffanian)

I saw those things raping the young women but... does that mean they're killing everyone else? Miranda wondered idly, a little kernel of terror building inside her that every male she had ever known might now be dead. Including her father, and her mother might be too old for the tastes of these creatures... She shook the thought out of her head as she approached her home, surveying the damage. There was a hole in the wall that fenced it in, and the gate was simply not there, and she passed through it to be greeted by a grim sight. Mother? she thought, though as she approached the body she recognized it instead as her old nanny. No... Kyrica... Why is this happening? she thought, kneeling down with tears in her eyes. Gods, guide her soul to paradise. She got up with her fists clenched as she looked into the hole where the front door had once been, deathly afraid of what might be inside. Then she heard a crash inside, and she ceased shrouding herself in shadows as she walked through the door. Maybe my parents are still fighting in here. I'll help them. I have to, I can't run away from this. I can't run away. I'll never be able to forgive myself if I do.

As she entered the doorway into her home, Miranda saw a smashed statue lying on the ground at the edge of the stairs, having been pushed off of the banister atop the stairs where it had been when she left. Turning her gaze upward from the crushed marble, Miranda spotted a creature like the one that had attacked her when the monsters had first appeared. Its back was to the door, and it seemed to have something clutched under one of its arms. It was walking away, and all Miranda could see was the trailing edge of a dress robe and a foot wearing a slipper, like those her mother often wore at home, before the creature walked into a hallway and out of her sight. Of the two sets of stairs leading to the second level, one of them had collapsed under some great weight, and was partially aflame. The other was slick with ice.

The rest of the entrance hallway was seemingly clear, the East and West wings both apparently untouched by the monsters, and still in pristine condition. As she walked forward, however, Miranda felt something wet against her legs, and was suddenly glued in place. Looking down, she saw a dark violet fluid puddled around her feet, that quickly rose up to around her waist. As it did, Miranda detected a foul smell, like rotten eggs and spoiled milk mixed together, and a grinning feminine face slowly formed from the goop. In the back of her mind, Miranda felt a degree of urgency coming from the presence of Nero, though the daemon didn't voice whatever concerns it had. Wherever the slime seemed through Mirandas clothing, she felt a warmth spreading through her, and her muscles began to feel weak.

Re: Miranda (Tiffanian)

Miranda walked into the house, half expecting to see something horrible and soul-crushing. Initially all she saw was a bit of damage, a broken statue and a collapsed and burning staircase, though her eyes soon came to rest on one of those massive creatures she had barely managed to escape when all this had started. Her heart sank and she began to panic, slowly backing away before she saw that the thing was carrying a female form... Mother? Oh Gods, no, please no. Please don't tell me I have to fight that thing, please... I can't, I just can't... she thought, but after only a few moments of hesitation she started after it. I have to beat it, for mother. I can't let it run off with her. She was soon stopped in her pursuit of the creature by a wet goop she had stepped in. It quickly moved up towards her waist, seemingly growing a feminine face out of itself as it projected a terrible stench at her. Why does it feel so warm? It's like my legs don't want to work... Nero, help me, I don't think I can beat both of these things with the energy I have. I need you to give me more she thought at the daemon inside her, preparing to launch a powerful fireball into the goop that was engulfing her.

Neros voice laughed softly into the back of her mind, and the daemons voice rang out into her thoughts; "Surely, Miranda!~ You can borrow some energy....." She felt a surge of power enter her being, and energy flooded into her soul as the daemon partially joined with her, offering her some of its vast supplies of energy, but also becoming closer to Mirandas mind.

Miranda unleashed her ball of flame onto the ground next to her, the magical flames wrapping around her harmlessly while burning away the foul smelling goop that was slowly making its way up her legs. When the flames cleared, Mirandas nude body was cleansed of the vile substance, and she was alone in the entrance hallway of her ruined home.

The Eastern and Western wings of the hall were both seemingly clear, and both had alternative ways of getting to the second floor, if she wanted to avoid the damaged stairs leading up. One set was collapsed and on fire, while the other was covered in magical ice. To the left, she could go up the stairs behind the kitchens in the Western wing, while to the right, she could use the servants stairways. Either way might get her into trouble, if she ran into more monsters.

Re: Miranda (Tiffanian)

Thank you Miranda thought at Nero as she unleashed the fireball, easily burning away the foul smelling goop that was advancing up her legs. That out of the way she gave a brief look around the room, gauging her options, all her fear and doubt pushed out of her mind by the presence of the daemon. The stairs would be the most direct way, but they're covered in ice. I'd have to get rid of it without setting the stairs on fire in the process. I could head to the western wing and get up the stairs behind the kitchen, or I could use the servant's staircase in the eastern wing. Hmmm... After a short minute of thinking she made her decision, and began to heat the stairs up, hopefully enough to melt the ice without damaging the stairs so that she could get up the stairs and into the hallway that giant creature had taken her mother.

Cast Warmth (Level 1 Fire spell) as if it's a utility spell, because logically warm things ought to melt cold things.

If the action fails

After a short time applying the spell Miranda could see that it wasn't going to work. With a frown she made her way to the eastern wing, thinking the servants staircase was a little bit closer and had fewer obstacles in front of it than the one behind the kitchen, though she hadn't really used either of them often enough to know with certainty.

Nero didn't respond to her thanks, but she still felt the daemons power coursing through her as she cast another spell, trying to melt the ice. It took a minute for the ice to begin melting, the process looking like it would take several moments, but as she waited, and the water ran down the steps, Miranda at least wouldn't have to worry about going someplace she couldn't see that was out of the way. After several moments, the stairs were clear, and Miranda hesitantly climbed up to the second floor. The large open door in front of her, where she'd seen the juggernaut go, led into a hallway that branched left and right, but directly forward was a large set of double doors leading into the ballroom, where her parents would occasionally hold larger social functions.

Re: Miranda (Tiffanian)

Come on, hurry up and melt Miranda thought, impatient at the rate of success on her plan, but not willing to abandon it to try another stairwell. Finally the ice was melted enough that she could safely ascend the stairs, which she did with caution, not wanting to be ambushed by anything. When she got to the top she found three options; a hallway to either side, and then the large door to the ballroom. The ballroom is certainly big enough for one of those things, but for some reason I don't think it'd open and close the door so neatly. The last time I saw one of these it was slamming itself into a door to ram its way in. So right, or left? I think there's a spell I remember that will help me find her she thought, using the spell that would tell her which direction the creature had taken her mother, and then made her way in that direction.

Cast Locate to find her mom.

Miranda is pointed through the door.

Mirandas spell went off without a hitch, and it told her that her mother was a short distance beyond the door in front of her. From her memory of the house, she should be somewhere in the middle of the large ballroom. Pushing the double doors open, Miranda finds the creature she'd seen earlier, its massive grey fist clenched around the figure wearing her mothers dress. He was still walking away from her, toward the stage on the opposite side of the room, where another large creature waited. It was humanoid as well, but its arms were longer and thinner, and rather than walking on legs, it floated several feet off of the ground, a skirt of waving tentacles hanging beneath it. Its neck was longer as well, and even though its face was utterly featureless, Miranda felt a sudden pressure against her mind, and she could tell that it was looking at her with whatever senses it might possess. The ballroom was 150 feet across, 150 feet wide, and had a ceiling that was 40 feet high. The stage on the opposite side was raised six feet off the floor, and was twenty feet deep and 30 feet wide.

Through the door? How weird, I didn't think it'd do that Miranda thought as she pushed open the double doors. That giant creature was in about the middle of the ballroom, still clutching her mother as it walked towards... Another creature, almost like it, except that it was floating, a large number of tentacles waving around beneath its body. No way, not another... Oh Gods, I don't think I can do this... Not even with Nero's help... she thought, her resolve wavering as she saw what she was up against. And felt it, too, as the thing seemed to reach out with its mind, probing her. She gave a long look to her mother and clenched her fists. I can't run away, I have to do this. I'm almost there. Maybe if I had something else to help me... she thought, mustering all the courage she could and throwing all of her power behind summoning the most powerful thing that came to mind; a fire elemental.

Cast Call Fire Elemental (Level 5 Fire Spell) using Empower Spell. (To Cast of 37 + d20, result must be over 40.) (Resulting creature will have 150 Body and the talent Unarmed Fighter)

A wall of fire appeared in front of Miranda as her spell went off, titanic and encompassing half of the distance between herself and the juggernaut holding her mother. The heat of the flames caused her to recoil in fear of being burnt, and her view of the behemoth holding her mother and its strange, tentacled kin was blocked by the massive blaze that she had conjured her. After a moment, the fire began shrinking, and for a moment Miranda thought that her spell had failed, and that her energies had been wasted, but then, a figure appeared in the center of the blaze, which the fire seemed to wrap around. After a few seconds, it had all gathered into a humanoid figure, wreathed in white hot flames, that stood in front of Miranda, facing her enemies. The juggernaut had turned toward her while her conjured flames had half filled the ballroom, and had tossed her mother aside, and she now lay in a clump of fabric on the floor.

The juggernaut was eighty feet away from her, her elemental standing ten feet in front of her and blocking the direct path between her and it. The other creature was slightly to the side, hovering above the stage about 140 feet away from Miranda, and sixty feet from the juggernaut.

Re: Miranda (Tiffanian)

Miranda recoiled at the sight of the immense ball of flame she had summoned; it seemed for a moment as if it would engulf the entire ballroom in flame, and her view of everything else was blocked out by the massive wall. It began to shrink after a while, and she started to worry. Oh Gods, did I not do it right? Is it all going to fall apart? she thought, though her fears were soon set aside as a figure appeared in the center of the flames, which seemed to wrap around and clothe it in the white hot flame. Finally the flame receded a bit to leave her with a view of the impressive creature, standing between her and the monsters. Holy Gods... she thought, impressed at the thing, and the fact that she had been able to summon such a creature. She wondered how she was supposed to communicate with it, so she tentatively said "please, that thing in front of you, the one without tentacles, attack it" and started inching around for a shot of her own at the thing. If we can kill this thing quickly, we can focus on the other... she thought, launching her attack.

The figured showed no response to Mirandas words, and the juggernaut begins charging forward. Her orb of flame explodes over the alien behemoth, its gray flesh sizzling and blackening, but it continued forward. The burning white figure slowly stepped forward as the juggernaut bore down on it, and suddenly one of its arms exploded forward. Expanding outwards into the head of a fiery dragon, the elementals draconic form surged forward and wrapped around the abomination, and in a single white hot flash that barely lasted a second, the creature was reduced to ashes. The elemental returned to its original form and began floating forward, toward the other creature as it seemed to focus for a moment on her conjured ally. As it surged forward at surprising speed, a node on the floating beings head suddenly flashed, and a surged of flames exploded out the back of her elementals body. The creature seemed as tough it was about to fall apart, but its body reformed fully after a few seconds, as it was still 100 feet from the creature that had attacked it. The fact that the being had nearly destroyed her elemental in a single attack worried Miranda, but at least so long as it concentrated on her summoned creature, it wouldn't be concentrating on her.

Miranda quickly launched off her attack, hitting the juggernaut square in the face and scorching it, though it didn't seem to faze it, and it charged toward her summoned elemental. The flaming creature didn't seem worried, though, and it stepped forward a bit, waiting only a moment before surging forward, the flames manipulated into the form of a dragon, and it engulfed the giant juggernaut, turning it into ash in a second or less. The young mage stood in awe for a brief moment before the other enemy suddenly slammed the elemental with a powerful blow, nearly dissipating it with a single blow. Oh Gods, what if it does that to me? It'll explode me in an instant, oh Gods please help me Miranda thought, quickly summoning up all of her courage and much of her remaining energy to throw a fireball at the creature. They would have to kill it quick if they were going to walk out of the room intact.
