"Fair enough, I guess" Hannah replied, going along until they finished the exercises for the morning. When they were done she asked "so, want to go right off to the ruins, or do you have anything else in mind?"

Getting back to her clothes after wiping her sweat away, Mei took a moment to ponder. "Could I find something to help me fight at the marketplace? Like brass knuckles or claws? Maybe even some kind of light gauntlets to help with defense.." the fighter thought about possibilities to aid her somewhat during battles. "If there's nothing like that, then I suppose we could just go onwards."

"Hmmm... A normal armory probably wouldn't sell things like that, it's not a popular fighting style around here, but there may be some cheap ones in a marketplace that serves the poor. Truth be told I'd rather not venture into the slums, but I can lead you there if you insist. We probably wouldn't be safe in a place like that" Hannah said, clearly a little nervous at the idea.

"Well if you insist on staying away with that much determination, I suppose I'll just have to make do with my usual weapons..." Mei replied, readying herself for the coming trip to the new set of ruins.

"Sorry, it's just... We'd probably be attacked, looking how we do" Hannah said, starting out towards the gate.

"Though I could probably fend the assailants off, I suppose it's better for us to stay away. Could've used with some combat aid though..." Mei replied, feeling a bit dissapointed, but it wasn't anything she couldn't deal with. She let go of the idea for now and headed towards the gate to start the next ruin expedition with Hannah.

Mei-Lien and Hannah left the city without incident, and the two walked in the direction the first ruins had been for quite some time, making their way through the peaceful forest. It was a beautiful morning, and they made good time through the forest even though Hannah stopped to admire the flora and fauna every so often. Deeper they headed into the thickening forest, until they came to a hill. "This 'ruin' is actually more recent, it's just an abandoned barracks. I'm not sure why they abandoned it, or why we had one out here in the middle of nowhere, really, but still, it might be worth checking out" Hannah said as they climbed the slight incline, before finally coming to a small clearing, a fairly small one-story stone building standing before them. There was an iron gate at the front of it, though it looked like it wouldn't be too hard to break into.

Mei found herself enjoying the trip to this new set of ruins, the wild beauty of nature getting further highlighted in the morning sun. The trail took them back the same way as yesterday, but eventually splitting of the path to a thicker fortress and finally a hill. "A barracks? It does have potential to hide something useful within..." she admitted as they came to the gates. Taking a firm grip on the iron, the red-haired martial artist would try it normally first before resorting to higher levels of force.

The gate slowly pulled open, as if someone had forgotten to lock it when they went out. With the gate out of the way, they entered the barracks and walked forward for a bit. The ceilings were surprisingly low, and it was quite dark off in the distance, as no one had lit the candles that lined the walls in a long time. They eventually came to a crossroads; they could keep going forward, or branch off to either side.

"Alright, no need to get harsh with a gate..." Mei thought as the gate slowly grinded open when she pulled it. Once inside the barracks, she advanced with Hannah despite the darkness and low confines of the building. A short ways in along the candle-lined corridors, the pair soon come to an intersection.

"Old habits die hard... let's take the right path first."

"Alright, sounds like a plan to me" Hannah replied, following Mei-Lien down the right path. It was much like the one they had already been in, though this one didn't get the benefit of sunlight the main corridor had had. Eventually they came to a set of doors to each side, both of them closed.

With her usual selection, Mei led Hannah down a slightly darker path on the right. It didn't take them but a few short moments to come into another fork. "Right again, I say."

Mei-Lien opens the door to the right, and walks into a pitch dark room. "I can light it briefly, and see if there are any candles to light" Hannah said, but then gasped a little as she saw a pair of eyes glaring at them from across the room. "Humans. Get out of my home!" A raspy voice shouted, and the two could hear the sound of a sword being drawn.

"Just light the room up, we'll get a glimpse about what this scary monster is.." Mei said to Hannah, keeping her guard up in case the thingy staring at the decided to charge into combat.

Hannah nodded, though Mei-Lien would have no way of knowing, and then the room was suddenly lit by flame for a brief moment. The one standing across from them screamed out as he closed his eyes, the light blinding him, and Mei-Lien could see that it was a sort of catboy, perhaps more cat than boy. She couldn't get a very good look at him, but from what she saw he seemed rather athletic and tough. "See?" he said, as the light died away, "nothing worth taking here. Go away."

Though Mei had a minor desire to enter battle, she saw no other meaning in engaging the cat-person. "Alright, well just see the next room. Enjoy your home." she said, backing away from the door and keeping her guard up in case the creature tried something with them.

"Enjoy your visit here too" the catboy replied, "but be careful." The two left the room and closed the door quietly behind them, shutting out the eyes that glared back at them. "He seemed not that bad" Hannah said quietly, waiting for Mei-Lien to either go back the way they had come or open the door across from them.

"We will. Bye." Mei gave her final words to the catty person, closing the door behind them as she exited. "That was.. weird. Let's see this other door next."

Mei-Lien opened the door to another darkened room, which Hannah quickly lit with flame. She saw a few candles on a stand in the middle of the room and lit them, revealing a fairly simple room. There was a desk against the walls to the side, and a set of chains hanging from the ceiling on the far wall. Sitting on one of the desks was a whip, and Hannah said "this was probably where they disciplined the soldiers" as she sifted through the things on the other desk. "It doesn't look like there's anything interest... did you hear that?" she asked, but Mei-Lien hadn't heard a thing. "It sounded like giggling... Are you sure you didn't hear that?"

After creaking open the door, Mei stepped in first as the frontliner but there didn't seem to be anything there. With a quick light spell, Hannah lit up the room so the could make things out. After some looking at a whip and other things, the redhead stopped as Hannah claimed she heard something. "No... I didn't hear it.." she replied, trying to listen at the air around them to make out the voice for herself
