Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

Maria, always a strong person, sought to help in any way she could. Worrying about the small quiet biologist, considering her seemingly frail nature, she went to go check on her. As she entered the scientist's quiet chambers, it appeared the small woman was looking over a desk of notes. Upon a second inspection, Maria could see that her head wasn't hung in study, but in sadness and fear. Unable to let anyone's emotions be victim to her own, Mako looked up and managed a small smile to try and reassure Maria that everything was all right. And, if they all watch over each other, everything would be.

Or if they noticed the small squeaking of metal scraping metal.

A quick noise echoed through the room as something fell on Mako's desk. Looking it over quickly, both girls could see it was an ordinary screw. But where could it come from? Their eyes panned up as they saw the monstrosity escaping the vent into the room, a dog like creature, with what looked like spiders legs growing upwards out of it's back, curling out like a ribcage. It smashed hard onto the desk, with enough force to have the biologist fly back in fright,, it's raging torrents of saliva and slimy fluids flying from it's mouth and appendages. Maria could see it's gaze was fixed upon the smaller of the two, as it was drawn to that fear. Mustering the strength, Maria tried to quickly wedge herself between the two, but was quickly struck by one of the large, dog-like arms, smacking her head into the wall, blacking out instantly. In her few moments of clarity in between waking and losing herself, the last image in her mind was a blurred look of the creature bowing to Mako, as the 8 limbs closed up around her, restraining her to the creatures back.

When the crew happens upon the room, they would find papers and furniture scattered everywhere and Maria down on the floor. Everything in sight would be covered with random splatter, especially the top of the cargomaster's body, where the alien seemingly literally drooled over the would be victim, if not for the young one it already had in it's grips before exiting through the air vents in which it came, Mako's small structure making her the perfect target for such an escape.

Toxic... there's a reason you don't simply copy/paste your hand to the thread...

I'm debating whether I simply let this snafu stand or I take away the exposure card, redraw from the appropriate deck, and then skip the exposure phase as a penalty.

What do the human players think?

LOL, I... had to look twice at that. DERP!
Yeah, I'd say Tox gets to redraw but skip, seeing that he may very well be picking up an 'Alien' card this time around.

I'm not entirely sure what the snafu was, to be honest. did the card say whether it was a fake or actual exposure? I'm fine with letting it stand, as i kind of likes the post he put up with it, and don't want to see it gone. Far as i was aware, it was a maybe anyways XD

Okay I'm going to do a kind thing, I'm going to put the NPC exposure card back into the deck. Then I'm going to flip a coin. Heads he gets the same card back in his hand. Tails, it's the bad kind of Exposure card, and it too goes back in his hand.

Whatever it is, he gets to put it on Maria and only Maria, then we continue on with the game. He doesn't have to re-write his post.

Also other players may play card from their hands now if they want, and Taki you can make assignments.

"Well, let's get suited up," says Laura, giving a nod to the others involved. "Mina, I'll need you to keep working on that satellite array--I'll have Riley help you with that. Maria, I trust you to make sure that... wait, where's Maria? And Mako, for that matter..."

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

As the rest of the crew prepared themselves for atmospheric re-entry. Lulu began digging through the Muse's surveillance records, looking for answers.

(Shrike plays Looking for answers, selects alien deck 1 discard pile to look at.)

Ever the inquisitive little officer, she apparently had spotted something in her search and left her station quietly. No one noticed her leave, except for Faye, who waited a few seconds and then seemed to make up her mind and slip out after her.

Several minutes later there were shouts from down the hallway, and Laura and Veronica went to investigate. They found Lulu pressed up against the wall of the medical lab, shaking and Faye was unconscious, sleeping in the middle of the floor with a morphine needle stuck in her arm.

(Shrike plays Morphine Injection on Faye. She may no longer be assigned to Tasks or Encounters. The Alien player or another PC may discard two cards from their hand to remove the morphine injection.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Satellite Array rolls: 1, 2, 5 (no successes)

0/5

New Eden Encounter rolls: 2, 5, 2, 4, 2 (2 successes)

2/7 successes obtained.

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

Veronica stares very coldly at Lulu through the security cameras as she piloted the Muse, as she sees her friend on the ground, an injection in Faye's arm. Perhaps a little bit more coldly than usual, even. But she said nothing, and did nothing besides glance sidelong at the rifle lying next to her.

("Finally get a chance to use these guns!" : Reduce a target number by 1, may be after dice have been rolled.
"I knew her... she was my friend." : 2 auto successes, needs Muse Captain )

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

Lulu took some time to recover again, and stuck close to the captain from then on out, having had her fill of near-rape experiences for one trip, and then some. She did her best to help out from there, running computer operations and managing the systems like a woman possessed, trying to keep her mind busy...

((EDIT: Nevermind, Tass already won the encounter, the cards get to sit in my hand for another round, bleh.))

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

(Alien player passes on messing with you).

----------------------------------------------

The Muse entered New Eden atmosphere in the waning hours of the day cycle that was set to standard Earth time. It had a been a long day, but the intrepid crew didn't have much opportunity to rest. On the icy surface of the planet, a blizzard front could be seen forming on the horizon.

"There," said Aoru, pointing out a ravine in the tundra landscape. "The records indicate that the most recent dig was somewhere inside."

"The Muse will never fit in there. We'd need the shuttle to search up close," Mina remarked to the stunning planetologist.

"If we set the Muse down on the tundra, somewhere safe, I can lead a group into the ravine and we can detonate an explosive charge to collapse the site." Aoru said, in an uncharacteristically brave and confident voice. Behind the frames of her glasses, the normally shy woman's brows had furrowed in determination. This was her chance to bring her skills to the fore and do her part.

Turning to the captain, Aoru nodded and got a signal of approval. Quickly it was decided that Laura and Veronica and Lulu would accompany Aoru out onto the ice. There was a protest from Riley and Halley who thought that they should be the ones to help, but both Laura and Veronica, each being leaders in their own right, were determined to be on the away team. Lulu made the point that she had a tracking beacon inbuilt onto her cybernetics, so that if anything went wrong, the crew could locate them through her. She also seemed frustrated with her lack of opportunity to prove her worth as well, and didn't appreciate the looks that Veronica was giving her.

---

The four girls suited up and left the airlock to step out onto the planet's surface - the first time that they had touched solid ground in over a year. The wind was many times over below freezing, and only the heat thermals built into their suits kept their core body temperatures at a safe level. The air was much like Earth's however, so there was no need for oxygen life support.

The team took several hours, and had to scale down a steep and icy slope into the crevice of the Eden landscape. Buckled together on a rope for safety, the four descended. About halfway down, they encountered some trouble, Aoru slipped and was about to fall, but Veronica - who was close by - lashed out a hand and caught the girl's arm.

"Th-thanks..." Aoru breathed, her breath fogging up her helmet's visor as she got her footing and hand holds back.

The girls reached the bottom and Aoru led them with a good eye and seemingly instinctive ability to hone in on their destination. They arrived at a cave dig site in quick order, but stopped when they heard a horrible screech from somewhere within.

"Something's down there... in the cave... We need to plant the charges there, there, and there..." She said pointing to several areas along the wall of the opposite crevice face. Setting to work and doing their best to not be distracted by the strange echoing screeches, the women managed to set the demolitions up without any hitch.

"Right, let's get back up the ravine and then set it off,"
Aoru said.

---------

It was nearing midnight, standard Earth time when the away team re-entered the Muse airlock.

"We traced the explosion on the ship's short range sensors," Mina said as they came back. "Everything went okay?"

Aoru nodded shakingly as she took off her helmet and shook her hair out. "Yes... that should have done it. We won't need to worry about the dig site."

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

Lulu returns to her station after the long trek. Most of the crew is congratulating Aoru on her bravery and good work. No one really saw the cyborg officer patch in and run her regular system diagnostic.

A small internal beeping went off and the girl stared down at a notice on the monitor:

SYSTEM OVERRIDE PROTOCOL -- CHANGE OF CAPTAINCY -- PLEASE ENTER IDENTITY OF MUSE COMMANDING OFFICER...

Lulu frowned and looked around. A lot of the ship's override protocols were tied to the captain's bio signs. Someone was apparently trying to reset the system. Until Lulu entered a name into the system, all override ability was essentially shut off.

Lulu quickly typed in a name and pressed enter. The system alert died out.

---------------------------------------

Laura is still Captain of the Muse.

NEW ENCOUNTER

Battle in the Recreation Lounge-- All players may now draw from Deck 3. Everyone draws one card.
--Crew: 2-8
--Skills: Mechanic & Tough
--Target: 4+
--Successes Needed: 8
--Failure: The Alien player selects and kills one NPC.

----------------------------------------

"THERE'S THREE OF THEM IN THE REC ROOM!" Riley shouted, grabbing a rifle. Immediately there was a flurry of action as the crew motored towards the sounds of screeching and flailing. Arriving at the lounge, they were greeted with the site of three ugyly, misshapen aliens.

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

Laura, not being sure what to make of the situation between Lulu and Faye, allowed the former to go about her duties as normal. With the safety of the entire crew at stake, it wasn't the time to be pointing fingers--not yet, at least. She knew of Faye's signature temper and the fact that both girls had some relatively incriminating episodes, so she would simply leave it at that. Hopefully, if the perpetrator was among them, it was just one or the other. Not both, Laura prayed.

After the events on the planet's surface, along with a close call involving Aoru, the captain walks calmly back through the airlock entry with a sigh of relief.
"Hopefully that'll be enough," she says, to herself as well as the crew. "Now we just need to contact UneCorp... no, Earth, as soon as humanly possible. How's that satellite array look?"

Unfortunately, she's not given much time to get a report on the state of things as Riley yelled out in terror. The rate at which these things kept appearing, and at such inopportune times, was truly a test for the capable woman's nerves. "Let's go," was all she said this time around, lightly fingering her trusty sidearm to ensure it was still there.

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

Veronica cursed at the sound of the alarm, and started hurtling through the halls toward the rec room.

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #2

For her part, Lulu seemed generally terrified of what was going on, choosing to stick close to either Laura or Veronica whenever possible. At the moment, it was Veronica, who had just gone tearing down the halls towards the rec room. She glanced around the empty hall before giving a small whine, and hurrying to try and keep up. She'd rather avoid the rec room at the moment, but she didn't want to be left alone, either.

The Alien player passes on exposure and card play. Humans are free to play cards and the Captain may assign crew to the encounter and remaining task.
