Re: Dark Secrets (ranger) GMed by Ubberific

Eliza stood up and hugged her daughter warmly "Lina always considered you the bravest of your trio. My daughter, my sweet, sweet Jenny." the mother gently stroked the girls hair "What would the outside world do to you..." Jenny had spent so many years with only minor contact with the surrounding townsfolk some brief very occasional visits from their neighbors or whenever Glenn stopped by. And now suddenly she'd have to go to an unknown city far from her home "I’ll go look for Lina instead, you stay here at home you hear. Someone needs to watch the farm, We can’t have pa looking over the sheep without someone to watch him.

Eliza gently took Jennys face in her hands "Thank you for telling me this Jenny. Now come on scoot on to your duties, someones running late as is" the girls mother smiled at her daughter though for the first time ever, Jenny noticed Elizas smile was completely empty, a mere facade to ease the girl.

"I I guess ma" Jenny went back to her room and sat for a moment and thought. "Lina wanted her to help not her mother and Pa would be lost with out mother to keep him in line. No she would have to go but how to do it surly her mother would be getting ready herself she needed a distraction. Thinking only briefly on the matter a sudden smile came to Jenny's face. Her sister Christine had given her the method of her escape but she would have to be ready. Changing into her normal work cloths Jenny also bundled up another set and gathered her savings form odd jobs and selling excess farm goods. Wrapping the bundle in a water tight cloth Jenny gently tossed it out of a window to fetch later.

Walking out like she had done a thousand times before Jenny went over the table and looked for her mother. Hopefully Eliza had gone to do some of her own chores if not this next part would be Risky. Grabbing the brick cake Jenny went over to the fire and tossed it in. Looking up at the mantle Jenny saw her families emergency stash that they kept for sudden repairs and emergency supplies if the farm had a poor year. Thankfully it was a good year and Jenny easily scooped up the coin and headed out to grab a walking stick her father often used when he went ranging around the farm. "Sorry Pa Im gonna need this." Jenny left as the first nasty black wafts of smoke began to fill the house. Grabbing the rest of her gear Jenny made a mad dash down the road letting Clover out of her pen giving the old mare a smack on the ass so she would take off.

Jenny felt sick to her stomach. This was the first time she had defied her parents and boy oh boy did she make it a doozy. Hopefully she would reach Mr. Jenkins before her family got the horse rounded up their was no way she was going to be able to out run them if they did. Thankfully he lived not to far from her though she had always gone their in the wagon so her guess work might be off.

When the silent obedient ones rebel, they don't hold back indeed. Thankfully her mother was busy trying to get her husband back on the couch after he fell off, a task heavily hampered by the mans drunken stature. With the smoke screen distraction in effect Jenny sped off to the Jenkins family. Not giving a single glance back as guilt tore at her, but the girl felt knew this was the only she could leave, her parents would never allow Jenny to leave like this.

It was a rather brief run, the adrenaline of her first rebelious act and fear of repercussion carrying the girl all the way to the Jenkins family house. Glenn lived in a middle sized house, but one shouldn't mistake the family for being poor. The Jenkins took care of any and all travel and mail business in the surrounding area, with their workshop and stables being the pride of the small estate. Jenny looked over the sight, judging by the smoke coming out of the workshop chimney Glenn was hard at work on his new creations, while his wife Britney was busy loading up a sturdy looking carriage near the front door.

Stopping a moment to calm herself Jenny made her way down Britany and waved. "Hello Miss Jenkins." Waiting to get closer so as not to shout her intentions Jenny spoke again. "I was wondering if I could book passage to King's Coast?" Hopefully Britany knew the dealings well and could set her up she didn't want to involve Glen into her personal act of defiance.

Jenny had always admired The Jenkins home it was always so nice and orderly it was to bad that they had never had children the home was one of the few two story homes around. It had a red shingled roof and brightly painted sign hanging in front of the walk way advertising the mail and transport services. A little garden and a workshop attached to the home where Mr. Jenkins worked on or tinkered with his contraptions.

"Jenny!" the woman loading up the carriage beamed her a smile. Britney was a 40-ish blonde, even though age was starting to leave it's mark she still remained quite the looker, especially with her rather prominent D's in full display thanks to her overly deep cut dresses. "What brings you all the way out here." The womans face quickly changed from a bright smile to signs of concern as Jenny explained her destination, Kings Coast was a fair distance from them. Atleast 2 or 3 days of travel even with their fastest carriages. "Oh~ I'm affraid we don't go that far away, this one is going to Rinston town. You could always catch a carriage from there it's much closer to Kings Coast than we are" Britney smiled warmly "Not to pry, but why are you going there, dear?"

Jenny's heart skipped a beat but kept her cool. "Oh I got a letter from a relative she wanted me to come visit." It wasn't a complete lie but she could feel her ears redden. "So Rinston humm have you been their? I may need to buy some supplies we didn't have anything that would keep that long at the house." If she got an affirmative Jenny would pay for her toll or any supplies if the Jenkins had any and board the carriage. Hopefully it would leave soon.

"Can't say I have, dear, but from i hear it's just a small merchant town. Plenty of shops there." Britney smiled warmly at her "Ma and Pa won't be joining I see. Well me and Glenn always said it's high-time Jenny went out to socialise a little bit. Glad to see them finaly let you go" the woman had no reason to doubt Jenny, it wasn't like the girl choose such an remote town to visit from the top of her head "Don't worry about the cost, Jenny. We're just moving some packages and baggages to town, feel free to jump right on in. Glenn will be out shortly"

Jenny got into the carriage though it wasn't particullary comfortable, it was free and she'd leave in a few minutes. Placing a out a few of the packages aside to atleast find some comfort Jenny just had to wait a few minutes before the plump man from before came out. Britney gave Glynn a kiss on each cheek and he quickly boarded the driver seat of the carriage, slightly unbalacing the carriage, but no worse for the wear.

It would be a rather long trip, made even longer by some of the crates pestering her every time the carriage caught a rock or bump, but nevertheless she was already the furthest away she had even been in her whole life from home. The girl had more than enough time to look over the sights, eat whatever she brought over, think things over or maybe even do something far more mischievious.

Jenny looked out the window as the carriage began its journey wistfully thinking about home already and hoping her mother and father where not to worried about her. She could almost see her mother crying and picture her father swearing up a storm as he tried to catch Clover. It would be a long journey but thankfully she had a bit of a head start on them. Using the time she had alone in the carriage Jenny solidified her story for when the inevitable stop at Rineston and the explanation of why she was in the carriage. She also decided that she would quickly buy supplies for road travel and try to catch the next carriage to Kings Coast as soon as she could. Kings Coast such an odd name for a town in the mountains. Taking one last look out the window towards her home Jenny hoped her Ma and Pa would not be to angry with her.

Re: Dark Secrets (ranger) GMed by Ubberific

The chaos Jenny left in her wake was more than to take care of her parents attempt at pursueing her. While Eliza was busy trying to sober up her husband the black smoake had already filled most of the kitchen and now aimed to fill the bathroom. Well some would argue there's no better wake-up medicine than suspecting your house is on fire as Terry quickly snapped into action with Eliza in hot pursuit. The father ran into the kitchen where the smoke origianted quickly scanned the area... odd there wasn't anything aflame here, the cause was the smoldering object in the fireplace. A swift kick later the fruitcake was sent flyign across the room, but it had left it's mark and done it's job. No way were either gonna stay there lest they suffocate "Jenny? JENNY!" where was her daughter in all this?

Eliza quickly ran upstairs "Jenny is this somekind of---" the mother paused at the empty room, taking note of the missing objects "Oh Jenny...." Eliza slightly lowered her gaze and went outside where pa was doing his best to calm Clover. "Easy! Easy, girl! Come on, calm down!" Eliza slowly approached Terry "Lina and Jenny went to Kings Coast" a few words that brought upon silence to all affairs "How-- Why? The idiots!" obviously the news didn't stand well with the old man, but Eliza quickly hugged him from behind lovingly "They took that from their father. Always so curious..." "It's not what they took from me that worries me, Eliza." the man kept his stern gaze "Have some faith in your daughters, afterall they're all much stronger than I ever was." the two looked into the distance where Glenns estate would be. Hopefully Jenny, will not fall pray to the corruption of Kings Coast.

Meanwhile, the bumpy carriage finally arrived and stopped as sounds of an active city penetrated Jennys cabin, looking out it seems the towns delivery service was right at the end of the main market street, with merchants from all over selling and offering there goods to the rows of crowds that went up and down the numerous stalls. The carriage shook slightly as finally the heavy load from the front jumped down and went towards on with it's business.

Jenny waited patently for Mr. Jenkins to disembark and attended to business so she wouldn't have to lie to the kind old man. Leaving the relative safety of the cabin Jenny was nearly overwhelmed by the noise and amount of people. It made her a little dizzy but she soon righted herself. Her father often told horror stories of large cities and sadly Jenny believed nearly all of them. Well the first order of business was to find some supplies she figured she might need three days of trail rations and baring any missteps along the way she better get a lest a weeks worth. Looking for a general store Jenny hopped that the merchants wouldn't try to scam her.

One would think finding simple food supplies would be a breeze in a street like this, but far from it. The very moment Jenny entered the busy market she got bombarded by the sights and sounds. Each stoll yelling at the top of their lungs about there offered wares! Though what she would investigate was up to her:

Available shopping locations:
- Smoked Fish [5 Denarii]
- Armor [regular prices[only platted and chain]
- Weapons [regular prices]
- Books [5 denarii each]
- 69 Shades of day [for those lonely nights]
- The Magicians Academy guidebook [Handbook given out to every mage in the Mages Academy]
- Dangers of the Wild [gain information about the creatures in the DG world]
- Survival [gain useful tips for surviving in the wild]
- Carpets [15-25 denarii]
- Pots [5-10 denarii]
- Clothing [Regular prices - Simple, Warmer, Arctic styles... boots included]
- The Star Gods pupil stand [Prayers books - 5 denarii each]
- Bread stand [1 for each loaf]
- Bags 'n sacks [5 for small 10 for bigger]
- Alchemist [regular prices]
- Water merchant [2 for each bottle]
- The Sage stand [Magic items 40 denarii- 100 denarii]
- Wand of Light 40 denarii
Provides a simple light source, allowing the user to see up to 15 feet away
- Warding Stone 100 denarii
Creatures affected by this item must win a Resistance check against the caster or be pushed back to the edge of the radius of the spell.[10ft] [NO DAMAGE]
- Expedition stand [Flint and tinder kit - 10 denarii each]

Jenny looked down into her coin pouch, it was atleast 150 denarii, more than enough for a simple shopping spree, ofcourse she could go wild. Afterall she's a ridiculous distance away from anyone who could judge her now.

Re: Dark Secrets (ranger) GMed by Ubberific

Looking over the offered wares Jenny went to the Star gods pupil stand and looked the book over. Jenny had heard of the star god buy like most of the townsfolk and farmers around her area she paid homage to Naya the fertility and farming Goddess. Not spending to much time looking at the prayer books Jenny moved on to the expedition stand. Looking over at the wares provided Jenny decided that having flint and tinder would be a good idea no matter where she was. Also maybe the merchant new where she could get travel rations. Asking the seller if they new of such a place Jenny moved on after her purchase. Her next stop was to the fish stand and bread stand where she bough a loaf of bread and some dried fish for her meal tonight.

Looking over all the commotion Jenny couldn't help but look out of place. Still she better stay focused. Her next stop was the book merchant where she picked up the survival guide which undoubtedly made the merchant snicker but if he knew exactly how little Jenny knew he might have been more worried than amused. Moving on Jenny briefly stopped at the clothing merchant before passing it by her cloths where good enough for her travels though the merchant did have nice things.

By this time her hands where getting full so she proceeded to buy a large sack and began to stow her items. Her last purchase was 4 water bottles. Content with her current purchases Jenny decided to head to the travel office trying to carefully avoid Mr. Jenkins if he was still present and book passage to Kings Coast. Saving any more food purchases till she was ready to leave.

Purchases
Smoked fish 5
Loaf of bread 1
Flint and tinder 10
Large Sack 10
Survival guide 5
4x water bottles 8
for a total of 39 denari

Jenny attempts to sneak past Glenn:
45! vs 20 Jenny ninjas her way past [First roll= a natural 20. I love a challenge]

Finishing up her shopping Jenny wasted no time to move on out to her goal, scurrying on to the travel office. It was a fairly large building with constant flows of people coming in and out, for a rather frail girl like Jenny blending in was far too easy.

The girl made her way up the stairs when a familiar voice shouted out from nearby "Gang way! Excuse me!" seemed Glenn was busy lugging something fairly large on his back, judging by his trembling feet it was a fairly large load. Jenny couldn't just stand there and watch a dear friend struggle so much, someone had to help! Thankfully 2 rather strong looking men quickly ran up and helped the man hoist the crate "Oh thank you boys... this old back of mine ain't what it used to be" Glenn chuckled merrily "It's no bother, sir." with that the three made their way back to Mr. Jenkins vagon and Jenny carried on with her adventure with a slightly clearer conscience.

Moments later Jenny reached the ticket booth, a skinny looking old lady with overly sharp sun-glasses tended the cashier with a notice board opposite side of the room which gathered a substantial crowd around it, likely all looking over the upcoming and going carriages.

Eying the travel board with relief Jenny went straight to it to look for a departure to Kings Coast if failing to find a direct route she would find the closest one she could. Squizing into the crowed made Jenny fairly uncomfortable, While she was not stranger to tight quarters they where at lest family. No doubt stepping on a few toes as moved to a better vantage point. She made good progress until she ran into a mountain of a man he easily dwarfed the skinny girl in both height and girth and even made Mr. Jenkins look a little thin. He had nasty orange brown shirt and dirty scuffy pants and shoes and he smelled of stale sweat and grease. Resisting the urge to gag Jenny desperately hoped the man didn't fall on her or her little adventure would be over before it began. Making her selection if indeed their was one to be made she noted the time and head over to the travel manager and paid for her fair. If finding a direct route was impossible she would ask the agent if she new of the next closest stop.

Re: Dark Secrets (ranger) GMed by Ubberific

Luckily there was indeed a notice on the board "To Kings Coast 19:00 PM" though unnervingly it was the only one post featuring the town. Seemed it wasn't a popular route and the carriage rarely took people there. Judging by the bright and clear sky it was hardly that late, but Jenny had no clue what the current time was. Nevertheless she could always book a ticket and ask the cashier how much time was left before departing.

Jenny barely slipped out of the huge crowd and the smelly man remained standing firmly, thus no casualties were suffered. Jenny approached the skinny woman and inquired about the trip to Kings Coast "One moment, honey." the skinny woman adressed the girl ina honey-dipped voice before turning around and croaking out to her friend "HEY! JIMMY! When's King Coast leaving?!" "Give or take 3 hours, Selly!" the sunglassed woman cleared her throat and addressed Jenny once more "In about 3 hours, honey. That'll be 30 denarii for the trip and 2 for the bag." the older woman smiled that fake merchant smile and awaited for the girls response. Whatever Jenny decided to do she had 3 hours to make up her mind.

30 denari that seemed like an alot of money to spend and it looked like no layovers so she would have to sleep on the ground or in the carriage still it was leaving tonight and in three hours. "I see here you go miss." Jenny counted out 32 denari putting a hefty dent in her finances but still she should have enough to keep herself fed during her stay though walking back looked like it would be the only option for her when she wanted to leave. "Is their any place that sells travel rations mam?" Jenny hopped the woman had some idea or knew of a place where she could get some food for her trip or else it would be a long hungry road. Getting her answer if any and acting on it Jenny would find a place where she wasn't in the way and wait for the three hours maybe reading her newly purchased book to help pass the time.

Supplies
79 denari
1 smoked fish
1 loaf bread
4 liters of water

The old woman eyed the girl rather harshly looked like, he rhoney tongue worked only as long as you still had dnearii to offer "There's Rita's dinner at the end of the market street, I suppose you could ask them to pack up some of the served meals there." with a dismissive snort the woman gently shoo'ed Jenny away as another man approached inquiring for a trip to the town of Small Fruit.

There was nothing left to do here, Jenny could always explore the city or check the stalls once more, then again the dinner might be a choice location aswell.

Humph how rude still Jenny didn't say a word and decided that stale bread and more dry fish would have to do. Heading back out to the street with her ticket quickly being stowed in her small money purse Jenny made her way to the fish vender buying 1 more of the smoked fish and then to the bread vendor where she bought 3 more loafs. Looking about for any fresh produce Jenny would buy some apples if she found some and proceed to wait for her carriage to Kings Coast.

Supplies
71 denari
1 smoked fish
4 loaf bread
4 liters of water

??? vs Jenny Stealth
30 vs 39
Jenny blends in to the crowd and remains unnoticed by any vile types.

Well it wasn't exactly an apple stand, but it definedly seemed to sell some fruit on it. Though it was a common produce in town, to the peasant girl the odd yellow bananas, small green and black grapes, the ever mysterious hairy kiwi and even great big black and green balls known as watermelons had been quite the cuisine. She had time to spare, the girl could taste out the oddities while she was here, chances were she won't have such an opportunity for a very long time again.

Prices:
2 Bananas 1 Denarii
~10 grapes 2 denarii
3 Kiwi - 2 denarii
Watermelon - 4 denarii.

Jenny eyes the strange fruits well most of them strange she had seen a watermelon before though never tasted one but the large fruit looked way to big for just one person. Ignoring the furry looking Kiwi Jenny moved on to the grapes and banana's. Feeling the soft skin on one of the yellow fruit Jenny wondered how one would eat such a thing the skin looked to hard to to bite threw easily. Passing the banana's for now Jenny moved to the little red and green spheres. They where kinda squishy looking but they came in two colors was one ripe and the other not she wasn't sure. Looking up at the fruit vendor she posed a question which instantly marked her as a country bumpkin. "Excuse me which one of these Grapes is ripe?" Someone else at the stand laughed at Jenny which made her feel rather stupid but thankfully the kind old man at the fruit cart quickly instructed her about grapes. Blushing from embarrassment Jenny made a purchase of 20 grapes before looking at the banana's once again. what a strange looking fruit but for some reason Jenny felt drawn to it.

Supplies

67 denari
1 smoked fish
4 loaf bread
4 liters of water
20 grapes
