Re: Eroico -Develouped by kyrieru-

I was just disagreeing with foamy at the need of a tutorial in games really, I actually think eroico's first stage was decent but could've been much better in this regard.
Also, the game isn't too hard at all, you can't breeze through it first try which is fine by me, and you have to learn through playing and experience which is also great, it's pretty fun overall.
Ah, my bad, took that the wrong way. I should have also said that was enough (the cubes things), but if you play Kurovadis, the way the game is done leads to actually finding down attacks since in Kurovadis contact doesn't do damage, you eventually jump on top of stuff, and then wonder if you can attack down, and VOILA, FU***** GENIOUS! (dat egoraptor moment)

Also, for a difficult game, go try Ikari Warriors without pressing A B B A when you die.

As for the tutorial, I understand it really isn't needed, as for the notepad with the attacks, just one tiny little problem, he didn't make it. Pretty sure he will next time, but expecting everyone to know the controls from the non-updated demo blog post (the very first demo) is well, ah heck, being too picky here, but he really should put a read me.

Then again, he also mentioned the game was still missing features so... who knows?

As for what dienow said, I agree mostly, except for the bit where he said "Those games MADE you want to beat them" and in said "games" was Ghost'n'Goblins in the list.

I am sorry, but that game is pure stoopid when it forces you to beat it a second time. The same game. Again. Forces you. No consent. It's not "Wow, remember that hard and awesome game? I feel like trying it again!", it's "OHHHHH that game, yeah, no. I felt like a raped victim when it forced me to do it again". That, wasn't difficulty. That was insanely annoying. And yes, you are forced, 'cuz curiosity, and then you feel full of shame. And no, I don't consider the first "half" as having beaten the game. It doesn't say you have saved the princess on the first half. asdlkasdfasklf qoweirupqwiurqpew x,mz.,xzv.x,ncv sl;ajkfal;dkfjqpo!!!!!!!!!

guys stop the flame war plz...some people are really good at platformers and people like me are not...everyone of us is differant! if your good at it help those who are not instead of bickering and whatnot! i deff found lvl 2 to be difficult but thanks to some advice i managed to get past the difficulty! I find games that are built by elitists tend to only make elitists happy so its nice when a game comes out that can be won by those of us who do not spend 15 hours a day perfecting our game fu!

I know when im upset by something i dont keep facesmahing against it instead i put the controller down and go do something else where as some of you might beat yourselves against a wall trying to become perfect...everybody is differant in how the do things if we were all the same life would not be worth living and you would not stand out amongst others for anything! so pat yourself on the back if you are good at it and then help others out so they too can feel success!

on an unrelated note how do you beat that boss in the third level? appologies if this has been covered already!

Do we really sound like we are fighting? I thought we were just pointing out some stuff.

As for the last boss, one hint, pong. Seriously, after her 2 dash attack on ground. PONG! Otherwise...

Attack the exploding ball she shoots after her 2 dash attack, 3 times does the trick

Re: Eroico -Develouped by kyrieru-

Kyrieru updated the blog with some info about the new game.

Should we start a new thread for discussion of it?

Re: Eroico -Develouped by kyrieru-

When you consider that games are about having fun, having rage-inducing segments of difficulty is usually counterproductive to said fun.

Although there is joy in passing a hard segment, a difficult segment is also a good chance for someone to just stop playing the game altogether.
If someone stops playing when encountering a hard segment, they should be watching TV or reading a book. Videogames are shorter (because they are more expensive to develop) and put more constraints on your imagination in exchange for being INTERACTIVE. Instead of relying on descriptions and empathy, the story builds itself upon the actual feelings YOU experience after defeating a formidable enemy, or overcoming a series of obstacles, or growing in power. Instead of explaining why it is so amazing that Mario struggled and eventually defeated Bowser, you understand that is amazing because YOU had to struggle in his place! YOU had to beat that monster, YOU had to navigate the maze!

If the monster is a pushover, and the maze is a joke, there is no struggle. You don't care. You beat Bowser and think, "oh, this is the end." THAT'S BAD STORYTELLING. That's a bad game, and ultimately it is merely STIMULATION as opposed to PLEASURE.

It is ESSENTIAL to an interesting story that the characters (or in videogames, YOU) be at risk of at least minor failure or frustration. It shouldn't be "rage-inducing" to have to try a few more times to succeed at something; if it is, that's your fault for being unable to control yourself.

Re: Eroico -Develouped by kyrieru-

In the update post it said:
"implementing the "gallery" for enemies, which I finished today".

Does this mean there's going to be a free patch for those who bought the game already? I would be somewhat upset if I have to pay again to get the gallery.

Those are the exact same words I said to myself. The EXACT same words.

I wasn't complaining though, I love a challenge.

Actually Agahnim is a better villain for this since that is the one you are suppose to hit his attacks back to in both battles. Ganondorf just teleport spams a bit.

i agree with this but there must be fine balance between challange and flat out rage inducing gameplay...eroico was not full on rage inducing but damn close for me...thankfully i got some help and managed to pass the difficult stuff and now i too enjoy the game hence why i agree with your statement...i just get frustrated at the people that come off as elitist jerks because they are a bit better at something then someone else ./end rant

that being said fuck mario i cant jump and aim on stuff wortha a shit...i land like RIGHT infront of a mushroom and hear that god awefull BULOLOLOOOP DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DOoooooooo o_O *cringe* the horror...the horror...

Re: Eroico -Develouped by kyrieru-

You know after playing through this, I have to say:
This game isn't that hard by itself, but its mercyless in the long run.
While as many hard games tend to punish you outright with big bursts of damage, in here you will die from the long run as you really cannot get that much health and the save spots feel like they are so far from each other.

The big thing with the health is specialy with the health power up bubbles that go by, you miss em? too bad, you're fucked. they don't hang around long enough for you to make a mistake and get knocked away.

I mean really, the enemies are not so bad, they are easy to learn how they behave, and the platforming, well apart from level 2, isn't that hard either.
But its just that they so slowly chip that health off and then when it's a new situation you need to analyze you don't have the health to fuck it up and with the spawn spots so far away, it just feels anoying to go it all over and over hoping you'll have enough health to learn the timings.

I've played harder games than this but the thing is, this just kinda feels repetitive. Kuvardis atleast was bit more mercifull with the health so you were allowed to fuck up more to learn the patterns faster.

But then again, you can just spam H for the short immunity times when you really get bored or pissed off at parts of this game so.. *shrug*

That's a good point. Long stretches in between save points can be infuriating.

For example, the spike room segment. Before reaching the spike room, you have to fight enemies and do some hard platforming, especially if you go pick up the upgrade in the bottom part first. Then you have the spike room itself, where you start with some damage taken. You manage to barely pass the spike room, and you hope it's the checkpoint, but nope! You get a very small health regen and you still have more enemies and platforming to do before actually reaching the checkpoint. Dying after the spike room but before the checkpoint could be easily be very infuriating.

I understand the reason to spread checkpoints far appart: It's made so that you can feel genuine relief and joy at reaching them. I personally got lucky in Eroico: I often reached the checkpoints with like 1/8th life left, and I fortunately managed to not die (barely) after the spike room, so it worked for me on the whole... But if I had done even sliiightly worse, I'd probably have been banging my head on the wall in frustration.

Keeping the same difficulty but adding more checkpoints (or at the very least, more health pickups like in stage 3) would probably have reduced the amount of frustration for the players.

gotta agree that making either more checkpoints or more health drops would've made the game better

I enjoyed the final boss fight. The H-Scene felt pretty vanilla though, oh well.

Re: Eroico -Develouped by kyrieru-

well after downloading demo v4 I seem to keep on getting the same error:

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 11
of End Step Event
for object goblin_ob:

Error opening file for writing.

and my CG progress gets erased every time this happens. Is there a way to solve this?

Edit: it should be noted that I had no problems playing v3 and I did redownload v4 but to no avail.
