If you had a choice on which elemental essence to use for extra damage, I strongly recommend lightning followed by fire/ice. Only 5-6 monsters in the entire game have lightning resistance but over 10+ have lightning weakness. Fire's great for burning plant monsters and water-based creatures (including the water spitter) while ice is a specific weakness for Horse-head Belial.

The only element I can't attach to my weapons is wind, there's no essence for that. Fortunately most flying creatures vulnerable to wind aren't fond of lightning either.

Light and holy element you already know about.

I definitely won't have time to do Headless Count runs for the next two weeks at least. I'll expect by the time I receive Ice3 you'll have finished Makai mode by then. The hima page doesn't have any info on red-star essences but it's probably only a matter of time before someone finds out the secret.

My conjecture earlier about the difference between cat-form and rabbit-form was proven on the hima page. One just needs to have the appropriate outfit on when getting violated by Belle to acquire the desired condition.

So new to the tread. Sorry if this was asked before but when the thread gets bigger it's easier to miss things. I have a couple of questions:
- is there any way to increase max durability/decrease durability loss other than silver essense?
- what is in your opinion the best weapon for long dungeon runs?
- is there any sure-fire way to find the full-repair scrolls? (your equipment is kinda useless with 3 max endurance)
- is there any real difference between different sets of clothes? If so, which would you recommend?

Also in regard to combining items. When looking for info on the game I've stumbled upon this:

1. Can't increase equipment max durability outside of using silver essences. Decreasing durability loss is a matter of raising character defence.
2. Any weapon that can kill quickly and efficiently. I tend to keep 3 ranged weapons and 7 melee weapons in inventory at all times. DragonPaladin has fewer in inventory but his build is all out ATK so he doesn't need as much.
3. I've lost count of the number of repair and full-repair scrolls I found out in the field in a single run. The secret is explore a lot and for a very long time.
4. The stat differences for each set of clothes should be obvious enough. But the two best choices are the crafted ones which are only available after the necessary end-game ingredients have been gathered.

I found that website two months ago and it's not much help since most of the info is copied from the hima website found on this thread page. In addition DragonPaladin has most of the recipes he's discovered on his own all over this thread.

I think I'll try to get "葬送の刃" mentioned on hima, since it's a whooping 48 durability.
Also, what did you mean by increasing character defense?
Edit: Is it possible to upgrade low level essences somehow? Some posts seem to indicate this, but I didn't find how to do it.

Agreed in terms of elements. Wind element I have only seen as a red essence. (And only wind 1 at that) Lightning I already have on my automator, and it does a wonderful job of gunning down everything. (No bonus damage on black goat though is a shame)

I tend to keep 3 ranged weapons and 7 melee weapons in inventory at all times. DragonPaladin has fewer in inventory but his build is all out ATK so he doesn't need as much.

For the record, I keep 4 weapons in total. 2 range [Automator, Vanguard], 2 melee [Granite, Burial]. Possibly adding an athame knife if I can figure out its recipe. Harley scares me with the number of weapon his PC carries though.

Stray-cat - beast essence (belle)
Cardinal Robe - sister essence (PC's room)
4 slotted Sailor Fuku is the best for melee. Maid fuku (It has the highest skill stats) does better for range. Cardinal Robe makes one hell of a tank. (Note that raw stats wise, stray-cat and cardinal >> all other clothing)

Also, how do you calculate how many slots a weapon will have after combining?

Refer to index compendium. Calculate the difference in between your current weapon versus max slots. For example, if you have a 2 slot rapier, the max slot is 4: the resulting weapon after combining will be max slot -2.

More broken in terms of raw damage of the two. But any melee is inherently more dangerous than range. Also, burial is a 130% strength weapon, and if you stack strength high enough, granite blade (150% strength) is better in the raw damage department. (3 slot, 38 dura versus 1 slot, 48 dura)
Alternatively, Crossfire P8 is the best range weapon in the game once enchanted with holy water. 100% to hit and bonus to raw damage as well as special attack animation. Use plasma bullets, it guns down bosses (except headless count) better than burial.
Note: Burial Blade is the only non-strict combination in game. You can use a max slot-1 weapon to craft the max slot burial blade. Likely due to the fact that nameless blade you get is 4 slots.

Also, what did you mean by increasing character defense?

The readme mentioned that higher defense decreases durability loss for clothing. Forgot if it also affect weapons.

Higher defence also reduces wear and tear on weapons.

You've seen wind1 as a red essence?! Not great but something unusual.

Don't forget stray cat has 5% resistance to whip and ranged attacks. Not much but could well prove the difference between 1 and 0 HP.

Burial blade is a better choice for the higher damage and special overall, but my build has decent dex so the crossfire I have so far is doing a great job.

*nods* then I sold it. Running out of space in my donation box, just converted all my full repairs scrolls [2] into full repair scrolls [3] [10x2 -> 5x3, lost quite a few charges] same with 8 repair scrolls [3] to into 4 repair scrolls [4]
Space is a premium in this game. (A direct relationship to how much money you make per run.

In my opinion, as long as you are using either plasma or mithirl bullets for your crossfire, crossfire P8 have a better special. Burial is brute damage and has no special skills. (It does have a +25% damage to purified enemies though) Crossfire P8's 100% accuracy and holy water enchant makes it the best ranged weapon in game.

Update: Stray cat's actual effect is different than you described it. The chance of you being hit ranged or whip attack is decreased by -5 * 0.9
Hence an attack have 105% to be hit. 105% - 5% = 100% * 0.9 = 90% which is then decreased by your dodge.

Shit, I can't seem to get this game to work. I've used WinRAR to unzip it, used ALL Decryptor and deleted the RGSS3 file after decrypting but the game kept closing after start-up. Then I followed the advice given in the first three pages and all of a sudden I get cock smacked in the face by a 4HP error. Can someone please tell me what that damn error is about?

I don't think you are supposed to delete the Game.rgss3a file. Also, make sure you are in japanese locale/environment as opposed to having applocale.
No idea on 4 HP error, probably telling you to get the latest version from dlsite.

Update: I got my 2nd Magi-tech 2 essence, and also a second fire 3... took only 2 runs up to floor 10ish in the catacombs. Yeah, that place is definitely my backyard.
Update 2: Due to wearing devil's bondage in safe area, my PC came drinking holy water too many times. *fp* had to reload and walk off the arousal bar.

Thanks hun. I'll just keep fiddling with it until I get it to work or smash my latop in a fit of drunken rage since normally when I extract files I delete that one after I move the Data and Images folders. Plus I keep my computer on Japanese settings all the time rather than use applocale.

A question for those who has the monster encyclopedia filled up. Does enemy drop yellow essence marked with red star like Giant (Str 3) or Clock (Skill 3)?

落とさない。書いてあるけど同じエッセンス組み合わせて錬成でひとまとめにできるみたい。
訂正、錬成でまとめられるわけではないようだ。
Will not drop. But will combine with the other essences present in that screen and be crafted that way ... Correction, it looks like you cannot crafted it either.

This makes it clear that you cannot get it as a drop regardless of difficulty. Hence pregnancy or and variant colored mobs in monster floor are the only possibilities left.

A couple more newbie questions if I can.
1. I've read that you can return to your room from the chapel and reset at any time, but I've just reached the chapel and there's nothing. Do I have to clear the game first or am I just missing something? (patched version just in case)
2. Does the method to get oversloted weapons described by Dragonpaladin work on normal weapons to increase the number of slots? And does the level of the weapon decrease when combining?
I've also found some crafting recipes on baidu, but I'm not sure if those are new or not.

1. Game must be cleared first. Then you can access it at any time. (Even if you restart the game afterwards)
2. The primary level (upgrades) of the weapon is kept. The secondary is ignored.

The first part of your question is a bit complicated. Basic slot expansion works on clean-slotted equipment as well, but I haven't seen a single max-slotted weapon with the maximum number of red essences drop yet. Hence, it's not possible to get max-slotted equipment this way. But with advanced slot expansion though, you can get max-slotted equipment [3 or less].

In terms of slot expansion, the rule is the total number of red essences must be the same or greater than the number of slots you are expanding.

To expand to the 3rd slot, you need a total of 3 red essences between your primary and secondary material.

I've also found some crafting recipes on baidu, but I'm not sure if those are new or not.

Go ahead and post those/give me a link, maybe they have found something I missed. (I can read chinese/japanese no problem)

Ugh, and now I'm confused.
It looks like this recipe list is for another version of Maiden Eve. I've also studied author's another twitter account and it seems there are pictures of new clothes, weapons and stuff, and PC's name seems to be Yukino at those screenshot instead of Roland. So, I though that were upcoming updates and stuff. But how come some other site has crafting recipes for the game version that's still not out. Or am I missing something vital here?

Woah, woah, woah. That's a walking arsenal for you. Well, that's probably one of the reason you can stay outside that long. Frankly, I just carry 1 ranged and 1 melee and at least 1 repair scroll for weapons only. So that gives me enough of dura for farming runs.

Yukino was the main heroine of Maiden Show. He's previous game. But if you are asking how to get, it I have no idea. It wasn't published on dlsite and the places what shared it where all boobed. The guy is obsessed with crack down on all sharing what nots going trough him, even if the previous game was for free. At least I think it was. I didn't see it anywhere for sale.

メイデンスノウの妖怪大魔境 is a non-H game that's available free for download from the author's site. It's much bigger in terms of content and has a real storyline. It has twice the amount of inventory (300+), a partner system with at least 3 that I know of characters, and about 3 times bigger bestiary (150+).

You can more or less say EVE is a doujin h-game based on メイデンスノウの妖怪大魔境.

ゆきの・Ｃ・ローラン (Yukino C Roran) is the main character in that game. Is a pink haired swordswoman/berserker. The author has never mentioned anything about relationship between Yukino and Roran though. (You can cosplay as Yukino after some appearance changes, considering I am at 226k appearance points, why not?)

Note: Stats wise, EVE's Roran is much stronger at the same level, end game wise 妖怪大魔境 characters are stronger due to much better end-game equipment.
Note 2: All endgame equipments in 妖怪大魔境 have better stats than Crossfire P8 & Burial Blade. All gears are full-slotted, but the main way to upgrade are actually black star (small increase in stats) upgrades. (This is unlocked only in hell mode on eve)

Frankly, I just carry 1 ranged and 1 melee and at least 1 repair scroll for weapons only

Granite for farming, Burial for boss, Automator for ranged, Vanguard for clearing rooms. Update: Athame knife doesn't have a recipe, so there goes that idea.

Minotaur dropped a 4th fire 3, but before I could bring it home, (2nd time now) PC died randomly due to devil's bondage's effect. (It does 40~50 damage on my PC due to 0 endure) I leveled it to +11, and then realized that despite the extra damage it offers, decreasing my agi by 20 or so and killing my PC off randomly wasn't worth it.
Also, my +12 survivor's bunny suit randomly disappeared (probably tossed it by accident?)
Yesterday was pretty brutal in terms of being trolled.

Attached screenshots: Endgame status before I enter hell mode. As you can see, my +23 granite already out damage the burial blade +26. Otoh, burial blade still has more damage due to higher chance to double hit (32%). My strength/agi based gloves and boots need work. In comparison, clothing, underwear, and weapon are so easy to upgrade. I will post specific status of gears at request. But really, most of my time is spend trying to find recipes and failing miserably. (More than half of my donation box is essences, and all of them at the max grade droppable. Also, confirmed not all gears have a recipe attached to them.)

Interesting note: only now do I realize that dual wield weapon have the same damage (but apparently off-hand only hits once?), and the 2nd damage status is for sub attack type (melee for guns)

I got it to work after I decrypted it, Myst. I have no idea what's going wrong on your end. (as a side note, I never delete rgss** files, just move them elsewhere)
I wondered where you went to.

EDIT: I hope the partial translation is going to be worked on. Handy, but ultimately too limited to be of real use. I can't be online 100% of the time, so advice to use ChiiTrans/TA aren't much help to me. Shame. Love the game, but would love to know wtf is going on.

Sorry to doublepost.
I deleted my copy to see if I could get it working again, and it appears I spoke too soon.
I tried a few things as well.
First off, (and most ridiculously), I simply moved the rgss3a file without decompressing. Yeah, that was dumb, but it did throw an english error at me "Cannot find script file". I found the fact that it was in English somewhat unusual.
So then, I replaced the rgss3a file and tried to start as normal. Yup, 2HP raising its ugly head.
I then decompressed and moved the Data and Graphics folder to the game's root. Tried to start again without moving the blasted file, 2HP again.
I then tried removing the file again. Only difference is the presence of the Data and Graphics folders.
This time, I didn't get a 2HP. I did however, get a crash. Normal resolution mode opens (something around 800*600, I think), then switches to the game's resolution (around 1280*720, I believe), whereupon it crashes. Nothing. Two black screens, resolution switch, then crash.
This is fricking WEIRD. This guy had better fucking fix this 2HP stuff.
I don't mind DRM on things I actually want, but this isn't DRM. It ass-backwards.
If so many people are reporting that the game doesn't work without jiggery-pokery, how did it get a green light on DLSite?

Same way every other game gets the green light, it works on most people's computers. I could make a list of things you could try fixing, but frankly unless you have the latest version from dlsite, I wouldn't bother. This game specifically requires frequent upgrade due to changes and updates. Old versions are kinda pointless due to 2hp.

Also note: If you downloaded from the internet, it probably has messed up codecs due to uploaded in non-jap locale. This game requires a clean copy from dlsite (or someone who uploaded it with jap loc) and installation in jap locale. After that you can probably get applocale working with it.

In terms of partial translation, that's for inventory and interface only. Don't expect any story translation. Not that there's much story for rougelike anyways.

In terms of what's actually going on? You can only gain pieces of the story from "memory" that you obtain at different areas. After piecing it together, the story is below (with spoiler)

C1: Swordsman was hired to kill PC, PC dropped off the cliff and the game begins after PC woke up.

C2: PC heads toward the city, depending on which direction you took.

C2a: Directly toward the city, didn't know about it being taken over by monsters. Was raped after being attacked by orcs in the gatekeeper's room. (Note: this prevents the "true" end)
C2b: Took the path with the tunnel and through the underground water way, enroute you meant some interesting npcs. A cat, a drawf, and a witch doctor.

C3: You have made it to the church, and now know that the city was taken over by monsters. People who believe in the false gods (initiates) has created this demonic realm and it can only be dispelled by defeating the 5 bosses. Hence begin the journey of PC - "the virgin snowfield" to eliminate the evil and break apart this realm.
C4: After defeating the 3 bosses (usually wild hunt, Chevalier, and Belle) you arrive at the underground chapel (or hole in the tree) and met the swordsman who assassinated you on the cliff. He mentions that you should be glad that the PC was maiden snow. The snowfield protected her and kept her alive due to her identity.

C5: Game becomes more clear at this point: PC is the maiden snow, who comes from a long line of Exorcist and is the current maiden snow. The initiates (false god believer) has scarified the city and created the demonic realm. This is the eve of the festival (to bring the false god to the living world?) and PC is the only one who could stop it. By defeating all the bosses, the eve will be stopped and the demonic realm destroyed.

C6a: He gives you the piece of the holy cross, allowing you to make your original weapon (before he assassinated you), Crossfire P8.
C6b: Same as above except at the hole in the tree area. You were given the Nameless blade which makes the burial blade.

C7: Minotaur was defeated, and finally the headless count (who hits like a trunk btw) was also defeated. The demonic realm ended and peace returned to the city.

C8: Afterstory: PC chatted with the gatekeeper on making her to decision to return home to her brother. It it unknown what happens after that. (In fact, the after story is very confusing and my impression was vague)
