Re: The Cat's Share (Kat) GMed by Takimaru
Ichimi's sarcastic quip wouldn't ruffle the hustler in the slightest. "To be fair, every pocket picked here in Naralona has a fair chance of landing you a new job as someone's housecat," responded Cedrian coolly, though not so much as to downplay the seriousness of such a potential outcome. "And hey, I didn't necessarily mean to get you a drink here, of all places. Wherever you want to go."
"So confident," he would say in response to the catgirl's declaration of infallibility against the members of the town guard. "I like it. But a plan B never hurts, either."
Then, perhaps as expected, Ichimi would go on to make her own case as to why she didn't need such an adornment, followed by a remark that was perhaps meant to pre-emptively shut off any attempts at persuasion on Cedrian's part.
The well-dressed swindler was not to be discouraged, however, and made a timely reply in his usual tone. "Convincing people to do things? I save that for our marks, hon. Not for you," he answered with apparent sincerity.
Her argument wasn't enough to dissuade him, however, as his rebuttal came swiftly. "If some guy is really determined enough, nobody's going to stop him from bending the rules to his advantage. But these are men in uniform we're talking about--they're used to following protocol. One collar is one more reason for them not to go against the system. And as for a second reason..."
"Don't ask how I know this, but slaves in Naralona are expected to have paperwork on hand--but only on the owner's side. Kind of unorganized, isn't it? Well, you can't expect the city to keep track of every single slave in it, I guess. Either way, we can use that little loophole to our advantage. If you do get tossed in the slammer, I'll have all the... 'prepared' paperwork ready to go. After all, nobody at the station can argue when we know everything about you that there is to ask. The collar matching our papers just makes for a far more convincing case. Then, even the most corrupt guard will realize he's screwing with a very important noble. If he did take your collar off, then he'd know exactly what was on it, and the kind of trouble he could get in once the descriptions are matched up properly..." he trailed off, letting Ichimi do the math herself.
"At any rate, if you don't pick one out yourself, I'll have to get one for you anyway, since we'll need it for the disguise. I'm guessing you like... bright pink? With little rubies on it? You'd better correct me if I'm wrong." He grinned, taking a look at the available selections through the store window and then making his way inside. Ichimi could attempt to physically stop him, but she would have to be quick.
