I would recommend either Despia or Dina first.
Despia - Her AW skill increases her attack speed while reducing her range by a little bit. Although her range becomes a bit shorter, the increase to her attack rate is massive. Rapid-fire 1.5k+ magical damage is no joke. The range decrease may bite players in the ass against stationary targets that are barely in distance before skill activation (big golems as an example?)
Iris - I wouldn't bother
Olivia: I would say the only one where the WT hurts the most. It's a big trade-off. If you awaken it, then you'll lose the ability to her skill immediately after deploying her. Even though it's a big con, it's still has a good change that makes it good. The attack speed increase was needed to make Olivia "competitive" compared to other Black units. She's still not as broken as other units, but she is a lot better as a duelist if you awaken her skill.
Liana - Can't really comment on it, but the regeneration should be useful for units not at full HP if she's already focusing her heals on your tank.
Dina - Similar to Sailors, but she should still block. Dina's basically a Black Heavy Armor Sailor now. 1.2k damage, 200 range (I think) attack that does area damage? Pretty awesome.

I just tried out the new map and the 9 AW units I have aren't enough. It looks like it'll be a while until I awaken more units.

I saw your reply towards Reiki and the new map you're talking about is locked for awakened units only. Pre-AW units will be grayed out and can't be deployed if they are in the team. This happened to me on the first run and I was at a loss at what to do since all my ranged magical units aren't awakened.
