I hate being the kind of guy that has to cry to the thread about not getting the game to run, but... At the same time, I hate being the guy that can't play his hentai game because he wouldn't say anything a lot worse. So I'll just swallow my pride and ask.

I'm getting this. Would someone please be able to give me a solution on what to do? Sorry for cluttering the thread with this.

I forget what it's called, but the program Dargoth used to patch the previous games works on IV. The way I did it was I made an entire second copy of VH4's folder and then ran the .bat installer for the very first menu translation he made for VH3. It doesn't really matter which patch you use, I just used the one with the smallest file size. The reason you have to make a copy of the whole folder is because this WILL make the game unplayable (since it technically overwrites files from the wrong game), but the process still rips everything from the data.xp3 file into its own subfolder.

The only thing about VH4 is all of its hentai CGs are in the separate bgimage.xp3 file. You can get around this by renaming bgimage.xp3 to data.xp3 and then running Dargoth's patch.

Does it keep happening? For me I encountered an error right in the middle of facing the sphynx that crashed the game but the game was already starting to glitch up prior to the fight (small alert windows would pop up from time to time notifying me of something in moonspeak but the game would still run). I was able to get past the sphynx after starting up the game again and loading a save point.

If I may be permitted to be a huge fag and speak about the game after having played it a while back, I would very much like to do so now.

Is it reasonable to dislike a game simply for being too mediocre and disappointing? It feels weird trying to describe my feelings of not liking this game because it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. Not even bad, but okay. It's like I'm mad at this game for having the nerve to only be a 6/10 instead of a 7 or 8

I've never played the original, but I've been following this series since the second one.

I felt the second one was great, a solid 8/10 at the very least. Besides liking a decent amount of the girls in it, the gameplay was a lot more enjoyable. True the core battles aren't any different than 3 or 4, but the first person dungeons they put you in actually made it felt like they wanted you to explore a bit and there was a bit more actual strategy to how you did things. It felt like an actual game.

For the last two games, the gameplay has felt so shameless in the transitions between boss battles. You aren't even exploring a dungeon with a map now, you're going down a hallway. It's like the game is trying really, really hard to say "YOU'LL GO DOWN THIS LINE. YOU'LL GO DOWN IT AND THAT'S IT. WANNA LEVEL MORE? PICK THE PATH THAT OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T GO TO THE BOSS. WANNA SEE THE CG FASTER? THEN JUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE NEXT BOSS IN THE NEXT AREA." Logically, if they keep going down this path, it feels like it'll just be a VN with choices like Monster Girl quest.

I dunno, even though I didn't like the girls in this game as much as the 2nd one, much like I didn't in 3, and it feels like the actual gameplay is insulting simplified and not even trying at this point, is it really fair for me to dislike it so much? Ultimately, if I'm to judge it from a non biased standpoint, it has plenty of well drawn CG, and it is voiced if I recall correctly. It's everything someone should look for is a passable hentai game.

I guess I'm just jaded over the fact that the quality seems to steadily be going down in this series. If this is the last in the series, then it'll be a limp note to go out on. Maybe 5 will actually step things up from 2, who knows. Sorry for the long winded statement on this game, I just wanted to vent.
