Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Please don't hate me, but I'd be more inclined to contribute in a one time payment type deal. I'm kind of iffy on the "by content update" structure.

A content update can be anything from a single line of text to 2 hours worth of content. It's a very vague premise and it makes me not want to contribute. Especially since I could end up paying a lot more than I'm expecting.

Will you be selling this game when it is completed? If so, how much?

Keep in mind that you can do a one time donation via Patreon. You'd simply pledge for one content release and then cancel the pledge. If your pledges (or pledge) fulfills a total of $20 throughout the campaign you'll get the uncensored retail version when it releases.

I'm not certain of the price for the finished game yet as I believe distribution sites have a say in the matter, but I'd like for it to be in the $20ish range.

I like the emphasis on in-battle H events. It actually makes the battles meaningful as opposed to just being unimportant processes required to make progress.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

This is really looking beautiful, I'm quite enthused. The battle system as described, the art style, the apparent care and dedication visible in the development, all of this points to a game that's far above the norm.

I have one gameplay question: as there will be "full action" combat, with actions proceeding based on timers, will it be possible to adjust the overall rate up or down? The preview video - while exciting - gave me an impression of rather fast-paced action, and I'm both slow, and inclined to "stop and admire the artwork" when possible. I'd like to enjoy the opponent's moves as well as the heroines', though I can understand that some might like to (and be deft enough to) move more quickly, especially with repeated encounters.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Did you notice the sections (likely not due to stuff bouncing around haha) where it not only details exactly what's happening to Malise or Neon with icons showing the enemy attacking them plus the specific sex act being done to them, in League of Legends/WoW style design?

I'd argue against it being placeholder or plain, it's pretty much on par with the design quality/layout of most popular MMO or MOBA games, with a lot of specific graphics for specific instances etc. :p might take a few video watch-throughs to notice, though.
Forgive the late reply, holidays being what they are. I did notice the icons but I didn't register the style as being anything but my first impression. I do not play MOBAs or MMOs; slagfests that they are my interest can't be held on something for that length of time. What stood out to me was how... generic the text felt. I go with my initial reactions to anything because they are usually correct. It's a plain 'feeling' font that does not mesh with the rest of the art. Whether anyone decides to do something about that is up to the development priorities.

You have quite the short attention span then.

So, tl;dr all the legal stuffz, the game is safe on Patreon then?

Yep! I also personally got an email reply from one of the admins after all this had went on, confirming that the page was fine.

I'm not sure if I'll add speed settings, but it may be possible. If I do I would probably tie it to a difficulty setting or something because it would directly affect difficulty. Balancing battle speed will be an ongoing thing I think. There is however going to be a pause button which doesn't block the view of what's going on in the battle. The intent is for the player to use it to strategize or, like you mention, check out the view.

Thanks!

I was not aware that the system worked like that. I suppose a one time $20 pledge would be sufficient support. That said, shouldn't you charge more (not too much more mind you, depends on content and quality) for the retail release than the minimum required to obtain it from support?

Thanks! I'm aiming for the retail price to be accessible for people who haven't heard anything about the project and might want to give it a shot.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm just stopping in for a quick update!

For about a week after the video release I was cleaning up remaining battle system bugs I had created while making the H system. Now that those are done with I'm making the big push to finish the remaining art for the first release. At some point I'll get around to making a post detailing the final "to do" list for the release, but I'm definitely in hardcore art mode at the moment. Sorry that I don't have an elaborate update, but I'm really eager to get this first release ready and out to the patrons.

Awesome, good luck on getting the last few things accomplished. I seriously look forward to checking out what you've come up with. The video was nice, but I can't wait to actually give it a shot!

For everything I've seen, it will be well worth the $20 asking price.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Just to clarify, if I were to become the $10 per release Patreon after you released a demo would I still get access to it? If I cancelled afterwards would I continue to have access to future releases and updates? And assuming I've supported the minimum $20 to get a full copy upon release - would I need to still be a Patreon at the time of release to access it?

I apologize if any of these questions have been asked.

Good questions, I've been meaning to talk about these!

No regarding the first couple of questions. The way Patreon works (at least the way my project is set up) is that it charges you when an update is made, not when you make the pledge. If you were to pledge after the release you would not be charged until the next release (at which point you would be able to download *that* update). I'm still trying to think of a way in which people that want the last update immediately can get it without waiting for the next one to roll around. Maybe Paypal or something. I've been meaning to announce this though because quite a few people keep blowing up my phone every couple of days by pledging and then immediately bailing when they don't see a download link in the updates (I'm assuming they think they can game the system or something).

Also, no regarding the last question. You could pledge the $20 at any time and not be actively supporting when the retail version is finished and you'd still be eligible for it. I haven't seen the interface yet since there hasn't been a release, but it's my understanding that Patreon keeps records of past patrons. I'll be keeping records as well so as to make sure no one gets overlooked.

Hope that helps!

Any way to donate 1 amount and get the full game + the updates before the release? Cuz I don't like paying multiple times for an unknown amount of content.

I asked the same question. Make a $20 dollar pledge, then cancel it after the next update/transaction.

You will get the end-product that way, but I'm asking if you can get all game-updates if you just donate/pledge 1 time. I'm assuming you won't get any updates after you unpledge even if you already pledged a worthy amount.
