Description:
From the creator of my favorite RPG maker H-game so far, Timer Miko/退魔巫女遊戯 試作体験版, a new one's in the works.
You play as Miko, the first Miko. Sealed in a cave for 1000 years, she awakes in the modern day to fight demons. She likes breakfast.
Giving her a place to stay, cooking for and helping her is "Thrush"(?) whose father is in hospital on the mainland following a demon attack.
All the writing and dialog in this game is very tongue-in-cheek, much like the previous ones. Expect a lot of silliness and 4th-wall bending.
Gameplay Summary:
In short, it's a rather traditional RPG-maker game. Control Miko and explore the over-map, moving through areas to find loot to upgrade weapons and armor, battle with enemies to earn XP and level up to gain new skills and abilities. Explore dungeons and defeat their bosses for big rewards and to advance the story.
Controls
Arrows - Move
Z - Confirm/Interact
X - Close/Menu
A - Map, Stats, H-Stats menu
Shift - Run/Speed up cutscenes/battle anims
Ctrl - Text fast-forward
Shift+Z - Give up after battle lost
F5 - Change window size
Combat - Meta:
Some battles will have extremely powerful versions of enemies in them, these are randomized and offer heftier rewards.
Multiple mobs close together can join the battle simultaneously, again offering higher rewards.
If either the player or an enemy mob starts the battle from immediately behind the other, the opponent skips the first turn.
If Miko's clothes are broken, mobs will chase her aggressively on the map.
Battles:
ESM has fairly standard yet fleshed-out RPGMaker battle system. As with the dev's previous games, it has an almost Rock-Paper-Scissors quality to it, with the enemies' next moves telegraphed helping you decide on yours. There's usually a right move for every situation.
Miko has 3 meters - HP, MP and TP.
If both HP and MP are reduced to zero, Miko loses the fight and is left at the enemies' mercy until you give up, allowing you to continue from the start of the map (not level) you were on.
MP can be looked at as overall stamina. Miko depends on MP to use magic attacks, and will faint if it's reduced to zero, again leaving her open to enemies until she gets back up. Magic is often elemental (Eg Fire, Lightning), and most enemies will have a respective weakness and strength.
TP is generated every turn, and is used for Abilities. Most abilities are much stronger than the basic melee attack, with some able to demolish a strong enemy in one go, others can target multiple at random.
If HP is reduced to zero but Miko still has MP at the end of the enemies' turn, she may be able to resurrect herself by using certain skills or items.
During battles, Miko may remember Abilities, performing them immediately after you've taken the turn. Which ability you learn, and the chance of doing so depends on the strength of the enemies you're fighting, what food is being eaten and which Abilities you're using in the battle and how often.
Magic spells are learned through comic books that can be found or bought. You acquire the book, and then invest "SP" points gained from levelling up into each tree. These abilities include being able to jump gaps in the overmap, but mostly consist of combat spells.
The enemies have 2 actions they'll telegraph through a little icon in a speech bubble. A yellow beast means they've got enough hidden TP to perform a physical attack, while a heart is an H-attack. Physical attacks can have several tiers depending on the enemy, the severity of the attack is indicated by the background (White > Yellow > Red > Rainbow)
Lightning and Earth-based magic attacks can cancel an enemy's physical attack, H-attacks can be cancelled by your own physical attacks - however, H-attacks cannot be defended against. Fire magic can set enemies alight, and poison skills/magic do damage-over-time, possibly interrupting the enemy's next H-attacks. H-attacks reduce Miko's MP making magic use a big risk.
Some environmental factors can influence the battle. Fighting in water or anything similar will reduce Miko's agility, and if she's knocked down her clothes will get wet, weakening them.
H Mechanics:
All enemy attacks can do damage to Miko's clothing, ripping the top and bottom separately through several stages of damage.
Enemies can perform "Light" H-attacks during a battle which reduces Miko's MP. These use 3 standing poses for Miko, which are genericized for use with all non-boss enemies. They each drain a small amount of MP.
As Miko takes more H-attacks, the "H-combo" is increased. As it does, so too does the probability of an enemy performing a "Strong" H-attack. These have another three dedicated poses, again genericized for use with all non-boss enemies. They drain a moderate amount of MP.
Each enemy has its own "Critical" H-Attack with its own dedicated CG(s) and text, up to three stages. These occur when certain conditions are met depending on the enemy which performs an H-Attack at that moment. For example, knocked down and top broken. These will almost certainly drain any remaining MP.
Certain enemies have the ability to bind Miko, restricting her to only Magic attacks or attempting to break free. This can be achieved through spending TP, using a particular item or using the TPMAX ability.
Some enemies also have attacks which can apply "dirt" of different kinds, and corresponding stat debuffs. You can spend a turn to clean this off, it's also removed with TPMAX.
Food, Ingredients and Farming:
In this game, fighting a battle consumes one unit of food, which is part of "Equipment". Each food type provides different bonuses during the battle. Some can be bought or found, but they generally don't provide strong bonuses. Your housemate Thrush can cook meals from ingredients however, with more complex meals giving greater, more varied bonuses.
Fighting without food reduces EXP gain, the chance of remembering new Abilities and prevents MP regeneration between battles.
Ingredients can be found growing around the island, and in certain places you can catch fish in shallow water, or fish in deep water with a fishing mini-game. There are also (adorable) chickens, pigs and potentially other animals you can catch (and murder, you monster).
Animals can be bred and raised at the ranch, north-west side of the village, while vegetables can be grown in the garden east of Thrush's inn, as well as certain other spots in the world.
Weapons, & Equipment:
Miko has 6 equipment slots:
Weapon
Armor
3x Equipment
Food
Equipment can be crafted and upgraded by the Bogdanoff brothers (Jiro & "A duck's ass"?) at their garage in town. They're fishermen, I think. One crafts and upgrades your armor, the other weapons, using materials you find, win through combat or buy.
So far these consist of different swords, a couple power tools and a flammenwerfer
Armor,
There's several different pieces of equipment of which you can equip 3 at a time. Some, like the brass knuckles, provide raw stat increases. Others have effects like reduced chance of being knocked on one's ass, or reducing all your stats but increasing XP gain.
Each equipment item has several levels, requiring 3 of the previous and some money to merge into the next.
If the previous game is anything to go by, there will be "secret" special equipment items. I never worked out what the criteria were, maybe just luck from finding them in lockboxes. In TSM, these included a items which would apply "dirt" and one which would apply bondage after each turn, one that severely tanked Setsuna's stats, one that gave you 5(?) turns to win the fight, increasing your power but making you much more vulnerable (OHK?) after those turns were up, a moped which let you move around the map faster but always resulted in being "attacked from behind" when the battle started. And a handful more.
